so amazing, howard still sounding good after all these years. just like good wine aging gracefully so has howard. and this is such a beautiful song;this song has and will continue to stand the test of time.great music never grows undated.just like mozart. this is a classic.
The 80's was a musical renaissance. A lot of inspiration swirling between bands. I could feel this movement going on with art and music so it became a way for people to connect with each other. There was this sense of absurdity whether it was punk or big hair in oversized suites that was intoxicating! Then the 90's dropped in and major labels ... are you depressed now?
I often wonder if we could just go back to the 80's the best time of our lives if we actually would ?because when we were that young I couldn't wait to to grow up haha... stuck in the 80's
WOW! Dude aged big time! I so remember those days back then, how much would we would love to have them back......I love the lyrics, "you can dip by the pool, but you can't have a swim, you're the fastest runner but you're now allowed to win" love how he did the lyrics..anyone have a time machine so we can go back to the awesome days of life?
I love this song so much, although I was surprised that the young girls in the crowd knew the lyrics. I sure wish I could see him live. Please come to Canada sometime Howard.
I know talent is all relevant to ones opinion, but I haven't heard a decent guitar solo in mainstream rockin over 15 years...very lame guitar players coming down the pike in this generation...
Today's music has no soul or character. It's all carefully and painstakingly crafted to appeal to the widest, most profitable demographic possible. That's why it sounds so incredibly generic and forgettable. I'm sooooo glad I grew up in the 80's.
i loved and still love this song. i wondered what he was up to these days! is it just me or is he starting to look like john lithgow from 3rd rock from the sun? still hot though!
Note to poster's comment about Howard being the only Brit on the show (besides the host)... not true. I distinctly remember Flock of Seagulls on the show as well.
I swear I feel like this song was made because of all the chances I had to make a huge success of myself and I failed by just my timing but not my ideas.
I watched this show every week when it aired a few summers ago.. it was pretty fun. I specifically searched-up this song from the show because at the time I thought it was the best performance of the series. Always loved this song, particularly back in '86.
OK No Problem... But try to speak a little of Spanish... If you listen very carefully the song, the second voice is Phil Collins in that song. It's very clear and recognzable. I hope you enjoy it.
Howard had a very successful album before Phil did the producing for this song. The album version was not produced by Phil--just the radio version. There were at least two other hits of this album (Dream into Action) before this one was a hit. I don't think you can say Phil got him started in the business.
BTW...it's funny for a long I liked the album version better than the radio one.
Maybe not but Phil Collins DID give Jones more contemporary sound. Collins' style of production and Collins' signature powerhouse drumming (I've seen Collins live at Genesis 2007 tour and the man is an animal behind those drums.) made the single version of this song an entity of it's own. I'm pretty sure that Howard Jones was open to the changes Phil Collins made otherwise it was never released as such and he wouldn't be performing it in the Phil Collins way at that show.
LOL @ 2439383's comment!! luv it :) Amazing 2 see a new version of thz song back in the USA billboard top 30 ( aug 07 ) by katrina Carlson. howard provides backing vocals & piano!! And i guess 4 those of you who don't know..Mr Howard Jones is still very much on the go touring the world over & releasing new material(eg)Revolution of the Heart(2005),Piano Solos Vol.2(2007)& a must have; Revolution: Remixed & Surrounded(2007)
He was the best and should have won this contest hands down! I don't know wth was wrong with the audience picking Irene Cara as the winner but at least he got the phone votes. I think he's really talented and I love this song! =]
i am not writing as a hj fan.i know howard as he is musical director of a buddhist choir of which i am member. we meet once a month and occasionally do public engagements. i have gigged with and also played piano to HJ. i was born in 1980 so remember virtually nothing about the 80s. its hard to fathom just what a big star he was back in the day.
Ooh my sweetness...i cant reveal my sources [lmfao] otherwise id have 2 dream up @ least 101 ways to make you yelp like a biatch when i apply chocolate sauce 2 your erogonous zones!! xmwahx like i luv ya ;D
