Really sweet. My only complaint would be that the hairpins at the beginning were too quiet and a little anemic at the pianissimos. They could have been a little more subtle and still been effective.
I am going to propose to my girlfriend soon and I know at our wedding I want this song to one we dance too, or if she has her way, one of the many we dance to.
no need to analyse it to death. You write something...and if you want it analysing we'll all happily do that for you. Never heard such pretentious shiz in all my life.
Thanks for this beautiful piece. It inspired me to write one chapter of a book that I'm trying to finish. This sweet and tender melancholic tune inspire and bring tears to my eyes.
@zecaemichelleusa Nice post. Great art like this, as I stated above, creates a flashpoint, an intensification of mind and heart, that opens us to transcendence. And happily, one art form galvanizes us into expressing these ineffable emotions in another art form - that's why you felt inspired to knock off a chapter of your book, and why reading Nabokov might make me run to the piano to practice Scriabin. Now I must ask you, one procrastinator to another - did you do the chapter?
Allow this piece to play at my wedding or on my death bed. Whatever way, it is beautiful.
Close your eyes and be taken back to a place of horror with this piece and everything changes. Take yourself to place of beauty and you have reached the moment where heaven may really exist.
This piece is beautifully played with real emotion and depth of tone. I like the way that this has been orchestrated- it is by far the nicest rendition of the piece that I have heard in some time. I was lucky to be in this opera when I was a child and the tune has remained a favourite ever since- I had it at my wedding. Thank you for listing this here. It has made my Easter...
Nice performance - especially for a live recording. Unfortunately sometimes the the intonation is not that accurate - but that happens. Just one question: do you agree with me that this tune is just at the edge to emotional kitsch (especially if you consider the year of composing)? So here we come to the problem: if you´ll feed that in your conducting and with the pics in your vid, don´t you think you passed the borderline? (I would have done it less emotional and more analytical)
I agree with the comment about the intonation. This was to a great extent a pick up orchestra that was used to playing under my direction but by no means rehearsed with the time allowed a top notch orchestra.
I do not agree that it is a kitchy work, but rather honest, emotional, and in context of the entire opera sincere in its religious content.
@anonymusum: Verismo was a gift from heaven to opera mired in ludicrous plots tethered to agonizingly dull cadences. It invited composers to orchestrally paint in all the colors of the rainbow. This soaring, elegiac music of Mascagni - as a product of its era as valid as Palestrina or Barber - manifests the spark toward transcendence that runs through all music really worth playing or listening to. If you think it's kitsch,
I suggest the complete works of Karlheinz Stockhausen.
Since so many people seem to be watching this I would like to add as the conductor of the music that this was a from production done on a total of $13,000 dollars, not very much money at all by Opera standards.
Whatever the minor imperfections regarding intonation etc, I am very proud of the emotion we poured into this work. It was a great little orchestra all in all.
Im in the CYSO right now 1st chair flute and were playing this its so gorgeous to play. I have playing it.
