God Bless you David keep on going straight, you can do it! I lost the man I loved to alcohol and both of my uncles died young from it as well. Glad you got help! Bless you Melissa
I would like to congratulate you on 21yrs sobriety, proof that it can be done. I hope someone will read your message and know there is endless hope, rather than an hopeless end.
I think it's great that he made the choice to come out of it again. ofcourse it was a mistake walking away from everyone he loved but people make mistakes.
Obviously he still had it in him and was clever enough to know that he was going in the wrong direction. So I would only hope and pray for him for the best.

I agree w/gibbonexchange...that is why we get to the point where we can follow directions from other people who have been where we have been. We found that OUR way does not work.
Alcholism is a disease, to some people it causes a mental obsession triggered by a physical compulsion. Once an alcoholic has had one drink, he needs more. No, one sets out to be an alcoholic it is a progressive illness.
Yes, good job, I am 25, and I am becoming alcoholic I drink alone secretly almost every single day, I drink about 70CL of vodka almost every day, although for two days I have been sober, just giving my liver some time to repair itself, but I am really desperate for a drink!
It is time to get help, it isnt as daunting as you may think, there is a solution to not drinking, dont waste any more years than you need to, learn to enjoy your life without it. Good Luck
I have a lot of issues with alcohol too, both parents are alcoholics too. Not that Im saying thats a reason but sometimes when you need somewhere to run for solace there is nowhere to go. What I'm trying to say is that u have to find your own shangri-la... tpical responce but maybe a hobby or something helps. It did help me a little but its very very hard. I hope your doing well :)
@Mind0verM4tter i wonder how you are now. drinking was never a problem for me until recently. im 24 and i can see that it will not improve and i want to eliminate alcohol from my life. it only brings destruction. take a step back and think how it iwll be down the road. i hope you are well now .
To the person with the username 'biggerandmoregirth' I think its fair to say that every person is different and experiences different things throughout thier lives, unfortunately alcohol/drug misuse, is around in societies and attitudes liek yours will not help this problem. It is far more prevailent than you seem to care to think. Maybe you have had a good life? Maybe

Very sad story. Luckely it has a happy ending. :)
Sadly young people these days still start drinking. And they know the risks. But they still do it. I dont get it.

Fair play to him totally!!
The thing is it also fills me with sadness because you can see when the guy is talking that there is a massive gap of 25 years missing from his life!
