When I hear this track, I cant help but think of Jesus coming down from the sky on a rainbow unicorn, and inciting AND FINISHING Ragnorok, for some reason.
@45vincentconnolly yeah, it seemed to me that he really had to explain the dune universe in the movie...the first time i saw it, i was really confused...the mini series did a muchbetter job of easing you in to it...
@Johnlindsey289 Hah, so apt, this. The Lynch piece was so universally hated but grudgingly accepted till this series that was true to Herbert's world came to being.
The problem with Lynch's movie is that it was a Lynch movie and not a Dune movie, i still think Alejandro Jorowksy or Ridley Scott could have been better for 1984's adaptation. There is a new Dune movie coming soon to theaters in 3 parts, do you think Dune is the same thing as Star Wars, Star Trek, Matrix and Avatar?
@Johnlindsey289 It's different, I'd say. If anything, I'd say its a story that Star Wars, Star Trek and Avatar derive from. Consider this: in Dune, you have a federation of planets populated by humans, some of who have evolved to suit their ecosystems, and these planets/systems have their own relationships/wars. Star Trek - federation of planets. Star Wars - Intergalactic conflict. Avatar - evolution and relationship with alien (humanoid) species). Dune WAS one of the forerunners in sci-fi :)
@damean2 This is all very true, and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind whatsoever that James Cameron was heavily influenced by Dune when he wrote Avatar because in both stories you have the same basic premise of the suspicious outsider gradually earning the trust of and, thereby, being accepted into a foreign warrior tribe that he eventually becomes the leader and savior of in a savage battle against an opposing outside force.
Of course Cameron is a huge fan of the novels but was disappointed in Lynch's movie despite he loves Lynch's movies, yes both Avatar and Dune are the same thing. Same goes to Nausicaa, The Dark Crystal, Star Wars, Star Trek movies, The Fifth Element, Dark City, Stargate, Serenity and The Matrix movies owe themselves to that literary masterpiece especially Matrix being Dune in cyberspace with Neo being like a Kwistaz Haderech, the Wachowskis love that book.
Chills! Chills! Whenever I feel down or powerless I listen to this. Even better with Stilgars words as quoted by Anynom.... Here come the goosebumps again!
@shiroshini Bite your tounge....Very few movies made from books were good...just look at H.G Wells's Time Machine...he must be turning in the grave after the last movie
@Dalbert342 you have no right to tell me to bite my tounge, and i will not.. because they did a pretty damn good job at making frank herbert's dune come to life

I thought the visual style of Lynch`s Dune was the best. Just he totally failed to communicate Herbert`s story.

@Johnlindsey289 i'm sorry, but no. The concepts behind the matrix and dune do bear some similarties but are in essence completely different.

@damean2 I agree completely. I want more. So much more. It is fulfilling, yet lacking. Like a REALLY good book without a sequel.

Very stereotypical; like something that you can tell exactly what will come next.

Why is that a bad thing? Stereotypes can be positive things too.
