  • You gotta lose a lot to feel that song!

  • Clearly our new c & w entertainers could use a lesson from Merle, just the greatest. Todays so called country is a whisker away from rock. Man I miss the greats, Merle, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Patsy Cline there is a long list. Today very few would make the cut of real country.

  • 5 DUMB BUTT HOLES .................TAKE THAT

  • Im 24 and this is one of my all time favorite songs Merle is the man

  • Im 24 and this is one of my all time favorite song Merle is the man

  • This was my brothers song. He passed away 30 years ago. I've heard this song a million times singing along not missing a word. Was making a cd of his favorite songs for his 2 kids and listening at the same time. And after 30 years I finally got this song. I still love Merle though he doesn't perform much anymore. I was so impressed when he won the Kennedy Center Honors this year. Everyone in that audience was moved by his music. Long for the days of true country music.

  • great song.

  • 5 idiots must be able to sing as good as Merle. Hmm.

  • U can feel it, too!

    TonyRoi basic's are always forgotton*

  • I don't quite know what this guy's singing about here - he doesn't once mention beating up a ho, shooting a cop, stealing a car, snorting dope - wait a minute. I just figured out why Merle is one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever. If you ain't into reality, then go listen to that doper krap.

  • @buickgn38sfi So you need something fast pace keep your attention... what are you retarded? Lets throw some auto tune in it,and talk about some shit no one cares about! Go put on you lil wayne and listen to him ramble on about shooting himself.

  • @buickgn38sfi TheMegaDeerhunter is an idiot, but so are you. This is one of the most talented, influential artists of the 20th century, and even in his old age can out-sing and out-write most artists today. And it sounds like a three year old wrote the words? C'mon, dude, get real.

  • @U2bPsyche I am with you. This is a true artist!

  • Drydoc got it right, the eyes have it. . . : ]

  • @buickgn38sfi maybe u and ur nigger music go back to Africa

  • nádhera..

  • @buickgn38sfi ...............this song?

  • Where is this music these days??

  • The old Master, Merle. Thanks for giving my life a worthy soundtrack, Mr. Haggard.

  • Amazing artist to this day! As great a singer and guitarist, he's an even better songwriter! Legend is the only fair description!

  • Gods on the juke box when the Haggs on

  • No one can compare to the talent of Haggard...loved his music since I was just a kid...he always has been the consummate performer, carrying a terrific band that icludes in this video the talented Scott Joss on fiddle and vocal harmonies...Thanks for sharing this great video!

  • i wonder if the old guy knows his guitar isnt hooked up.

  • BEEN THERE, DONE THAT NOT ANYMORE GOT ME A GOOD WOMAN NOW GOOD OLD MUSIC TELLS REAL LIFE STORIES.....

  • I love you MEREL!!!!

  • At least old country isn't dead altogether. Mass marketing is doing its best but the classics are still able to hang on in the internet age

  • love your shit merle, fucking legend........if that fiddle player at 1.04 is not ghey i'll sauce up my hat and eat it

  • @silowhore actually like 0.54

  • I love this music and it brings back the good days of real music, when it meant how a person could be feeling.

  • Misery in a bottle, at least for me..

  • i love this song -35yr old from vegas

  • I was born in Texas this kind of music is what I was raised on, some of the country of today needs to be rethought.

  • @12quilter hey brother thank god some new artirsts coming out, fuck rascal fags and fuck keith fagban. kenny is ok i like a few songs but some of his shit is gay.

  • Drydoc2: that was the coolest summary of what this song

represents than I could ever write. And your account was

non-fiction! It's sad, and I've ranted and raved, but the industry

is determined to sell what people evidently want to buy. It's my loss,

and yours, and the millions of people like us throughout the world.

  • with me it was more like misery and vodka chased down with natural ice and a pouch of rolling tobacco

  • You no longer hear honky tonk country piano any more in today's country music and not even used in Texas music. Texas music artists has forgotten yesterday's honky tonk country piano, forgotten from the sounds of Nashville of yesterday.

  • My wife laughs at me when I cry while listening to this... I guess she don't get it! and if she keeps laughing she aint gonna be gettin' it!

  • It is hard to say who the greatest country artist is and I gues we don't have to pick one but Merle is right up there with Cash, George Jones, Willie & Waylon.

  • I saw Merle at a fair in Utah in 1998. I was so thrilled to see the Hag and he didn't dissapoint. Came out on stage with those mirrored sun glasses on and just poured his heart out. What a man and a voice!

  • And I am again mixing misery and gin sitting with all my friends and talking to myself..... I look like I'm having a good time, but any fool can sure tell........... I love that part!

  • in my view one of the greatest Country Artists ever .,a brilliant son ..enough said

  • KING OF COUNTRY MUSIC...........AWESOME!!!

  • Roar, LION, Roar!

  • Fuck ya

  • Merle Haggard, one of the last trueblue country badasses.

  • Couldn't have said it better myself Merle! You Rock!

  • OMG.. I DONT KNOW WETHER TO CRY OR JUST REMINISE ON OUR MOMENTS TOGETHER... I FIND MYSELF SWEAPIN AND MOPING THE HOUSE.. WEARIN MY ARIAT BOOTS AND LEVI JEANS U SAID U LOVED THE WAY THEY LOOKED... THIS HOUSE THESE KIDS AND THIS MAN ARE NOT THE SAME SINCE CANCER TOOK YOU FROM US WE MISS U SO MUCH EACH AND EVERY DAY. . . A YEAR SINCE U LEFT HAS COME AND GONE AND THE PAIN OF U NOT BEIN HERE IS STILL THE SAME.. FROM .50 TO 1:05 THAT VERSE JUST MAKES ME WANNA DIE TO BE WITH U BUT THE KIDS NEED ME

  • @migordiz562

Damn my friend, I feel for you so much here. I wish there was something I could do or say for you but of course I know there's not. I've lost people too and you've expressed the feeling so well. I've got serious tears flowing now reading this and really wish I could say something that even in the smallest way could help you through this. You hang in there man.

  • Love you Merle. Love you.

  • The two greatest singers in the history of the world are Merle Haggard...and...Merle Haggard!

  • @BuffMBA I AGREE!!

  • This song is amazing... All time saddest country song in my opinion.

  • This man is a legend

  • "lookin at the world through the bottom of a glass...all I see is a man who's fadin fast".GENIOUS!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song used to make me cry back in my alchoholic days

  • Merle Haggard = American Genius

  • What a great line in this song "sittin with all my friends and talkin to myself"

  • I love Merle Haggard. Listening to his music over the past 35 years has brought me thousands of hours of pure listening pleasure. In my opinion Merle is the greatest country singer song writter of all time, and there have been some greats. I wish Merle Haggard years of good health.

May God take a liking to you Merle. You have many fans who love you and wish you the best...

PS, this is one of my favorite Hag songs ever.

  • @1LoneWolf4 you said it all

  • My favorite singer of all time. Awesome vocals and a great musician. Still has the voice even though he has dealt with lung cancer. Love ya Merle!

  • I've listened to this song 3 times in a row tonight. If you're a man who has ever lost a love you have to be able to relate to this song. You sit with your buddys in the bar while they tell you you're better off without her but you just can't get your head around it all. And the line about the "woman who just came in" is so true. This my favorite Merle song even if he didn't write it.

  • Brings back old memories

  • Most underrated country song of all time.

  • @dude000129 No doubt! What really makes me mad; is how the "oldtimers" are cheated! What I mean by that is, it's a shame that these guys and gals work for decades and might be accepted into the Grand Old Opry, or the country music hall of fame, while these new so-called country music artist make it after a couple of years or a few lucky songs! That's like changing the colors of the American Flag! Shame, shame, shame!

  • You have been Kissed Baby!!!

  • @migordiz562 i hope things have gotten a little easier. peace.

  • there sure don't make em like this anymore

  • As a child I'd clean my grandma's tavern Saturday mornings. I remember playing this song on the jukebox while mopping the booze and ashes off the floor. Today's Country isn't the same, but I guess no music is. MTV changed everything making it possible for the visual elements to compensate for substandard music. The quality is lost to visual trickery. People hear with their eyes now. You can be the best artist but if you're not visually appealing, forget it.

  • @Drydoc2 Damn good comment!

  • @Drydoc2 You put it well my friend. B

  • @Drydoc2 Very well put my man!!!

  • @Drydoc2 Well put friend.

  • @Drydoc2 Couldn't have put it better myself.

  • @Drydoc2 AMEN!!! so true!

  • @Drydoc2 You never forget the smell of beer and stale butt smells like

  • @richtogo Ain't it the truth. And every whiff conjures a memory, good or bad doesn't make a difference, they're all treasured. I think we're all lucky here to have lived in the moment, because these are our memories, that nothing will replace. The more I think about the change of music the more I just accept it. The music "we" found so important is our own, and while I don't appreciate the current music as much, someone else does, and will probably say the same things in 30 years.

  • @Drydoc2 Great comment. Merle has nothing to worry about though, he is visually appealing ;o)

  • @Drydoc2 You put it well in words and i second that .

  • @Drydoc2 The fact your grandmother had a tavern is fucking hardcore.

  • @Drydoc2 I'm only 24 but I was raised surrounded with GOOD music. My mom was a Merle fan, my dad a "Possum" fan. I knew everything from Lefty Frizzell to Dean Martin. Classics is all I knew till I was a teenager. I absolutely despise today's music and get excited when I actually find someone with talent & not "dubbed" in the studio. So many artists sounds different live than on "record" & you can tell they use computers to try to even cover them up when live. Disappointing.

  • @mhess777 It could be that there is so much scrutiny in the celeb world that they can't afford to make a mistake, so why bother. Just record a clean version and play to it. When you get in trouble just turn up the studio version a little and the "live" performance is excellent. Some artists can't pull off live music, some can. But what's not real? Hard to tell some times.

  • @Drydoc2 That's the finest commentary I've ever heard about the state of the current music situation. I grew up with Redd Volkaert and still get to play with him once a year or so and I have to agree that it's about the most under-rated country song of all time.

  • todays teens could not begin to understand this legend. and that is too bad.

too much booty in the ass these days I guess. how sad.

  • I LOVE THIS MAN!!!

  • Me and Grandpa missing you..............

  • Awesome!

  • Great:-)

  • Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Now This is Country Music At It's Best.

Today's So Called Country Don't Know

Shit From Shinola.Just Give Me Merle,

    Johnny,Willie,And All The Classics That

Came Way Before Just Flush Today's

Down The Shiter Where It Belongs.

  • One of the all time greatest composers and singers. Once Merle sings a song - he "Owns" it by putting his unique style and vocals forever burned into your memory. The lines on his face show the miles he has traveled and from the looks of it not all of them were paved.

  • my fav Hag song is Looking for a place to fall apart. That song reminds me of a lost love. It is one of his best. If he ever come to my are Birmingham alabama, I will definitely be there to see him

  • All you country fans out there better get with it and go see Merle in concert. Living legends are very rare these days and he is without a doubt the greatest country artist since Hank Sr. My favorite song by him is "Our paths may never cross". I have yet to hear a song that goes to the core of loneliness and need like that song does. We are blessed to have his talent present in our life and time.

  • Well, he's great, but there's a few better. Waylon and Johnny for example.

  • What is he like 100? Still sounds like he's in his prime.. A true great

  • Somebody told me once that if you want to hear your own story set to words, listen to country. Country reminds you that your heart may be broken, but it's not the first. Misery loves company, maybe...at least for a little while.

  • Dear Mr. migordiz562, I do know exactly how you feel. I lost my wife this past Sept. 2, to cancer. We had been married 39 years this past June. I know we're old, and all our kids are grown with their kids but, it still hurts... I've always loved Merle, and one of my idols is Norm Hamlet. I don't want to write a book here. So, God bless my friend, and you take care of those kids.... Rick

  • An Ex and i used to listen to the Hag................great memories.

  • babe i miss you so much. the kids are all washed up and layin in bed but im sure you saw all that..from 0.45 to 0.55 i wanted to die just to be with the mother of my children up in heaven. but the kids need me more. god damn cancer

  • If you can hang on, with a little help from Merle, i'm sure everything will be fine. The kids do need you, be strong, and be a good parent, everything else will follow.

  • God bless you friend.

  • my first and only concert was the Hag......i was 11 years old and accompanied by my dad

  • Man! You def had the chance of a lifetime to see The Hagg in concert! That's just awesome! ;)

  • my dad actually carried me up to the stage on his shoulders and they lifted me on stage. Yes, a chance of a lifetime.

  • What married man cannot relate to this song? Wow. This is what life is if you are over 40. The HAG. The best.

  • BRONCO BILLY

  • Comment removed

  • The truth

  • Man I love this song. Takes me back to when I was growing up. Not always good memories, but music got me through.

  • ahh. waylon, willie, merle, kristofferson, david allan coe, jerry jeff walker, bobby bare, the old outlaw country, best drinking music around, they all got something to fit every mood.

  • I was a longtime country music deejay (23+ years) and Merle IS the real deal. So much of today's country music scene is about pretty faces. This guy was the ultimate!

  • He played one hell of a concert in Metropoilis.

  • Kevin Williams--Bass

    Norm Hamlet--Steel Guitar

    Freddy Powers--Rhythm Guitar

    Scotty Joss-- Fiddle

    Don Markham-- Sax

Norm Stephens(used to play for Lefty Frizzel) sitting, Rhythm

    Johnnie Barber--Drums

    Doug Colosio--Keyboard

  • He still sounds great!!! The greatest country singer of all time in my opinion!!

  • I agree for the most part. Willie Nelson is on a par with Merle but for differant reasons. Willie has a way with mornfull ballads. it wouild be hard for me to choose.
