Masashi, originally, wasn't to have to have Sasuke as a character, the ONLY reason he added Sasuke was because his editor thought Naruto needed a rival. And yes, part of the reason the anime is so popular is because of the story line, and yes, they do not focus all on one person, but, the problem is, they do happen to focus a bit more on Sasuke than the person who the show is suppose to be about, Naruto.

Just like Oro killed the Hokage at very old age. That's the way of the shinobi afterall. But keep these things in mind. Itachi absoloutely ridiculously owned Orochimaru. Itachi admitted that Jiraiya was stronger than him, so Oro was NOT the strongest of the sannin. Also remember that Deidara was stronger than Orochimaru, but he couldn't defeat Sasuke, so wether he was sick or not may not have made a difference.

If you watch the Manga Series, Naruto becomes stronger than Kakashi, and learns elemental fusion technique. p.s.
