It sounds like this is Dave Mustaine singing. I was told he did lead vocals for Metallica in their early days. It wasn't till later that James took over. Originally they were going to hire John Bush for lead vocals.

This is a cover by NWOBHM band Savage. Herp Derp and only came out in 1983.

"The band was officially formed in October 1981, five months after Ulrich and Hetfield first met."

So Metallica was AROUND 2 years before the original was released AND is obviously Dave Mustaine on guitar... asshat.
