@warrior I gave Mathis a good chance, provided she finished the job early - and her punching power made that a strong possibility! When Holm is being untangled from the ropes, notice how Mathis steps back to improve the angle of her final attack. This clip also shows her winding up the right hand to deliver yet more brutal punishment to Holm's bloodied face. It's a fantastic way to claim a title. If a rematch takes place, I expect a similar outcome.
Mathis has a right hand like a sledge-hammer! There's a hint of contempt about the way she sends Holm to dreamland. As said before, the fight should have been stopped before this point, and for that reason the finish is brutal and barbaric - but it's also incredibly spectacular. There's something amazing about a champion asserting her superiority so decisively.
The punishment Holly took in rounds 6 and 7 was the most brutal I've seen in women's boxing. Mathis was magnificent. That cut she inflicted under Holly's left eye was deep and ugly - it's likely to trouble Holly again. Of course, the ref should have stopped the fight long before the KO.
@thedaoofthewarrior Sadly no its not! I really like Holm but she was utterly outclassed here. Matias is far too strong and a better boxer/fighter than Holly A rematch will give a simailar result. There is a fundamental difference between very good boxers and superior boxers, We saw it here!
@sgtcrab1 holly has the physical skill set to beat mathias, she just didnt use them with discipline. holly was going for domination rather than going for the decision. i think holly's challenge to overcome will be her own patience and ego. aince her pride got smashed we'll see how she reacts to a hard lesson learned. neither one is superior to the other.in physical attributes, but mathias is definately more disciplined and patient.
@thedaoofthewarrior Gosh I am not sure. Not to be argumentative but Holly did hit her with a number of very good shots and Ann-Sophie just walked through them. That and she has 22 KOs in about 27 fights or so. That is real power for women's boxing. I felt real sad for Holly in the post fight interview. She is a very classy kid!
@sgtcrab1 holly's shots had no power because she was throwing them all arm and no leg, she does that when she loses focus. if she sat on her punches when she did throw them, and used the ring like she normally does, she would have an equal shot at winning. she could easily hit 20%-40% harder if she worked on sitting on her punches. she alreadyget does it during her padwork, she just loses focus fast when she gets hit. she can get better with that. humility can fix that.
@thedaoofthewarrior I agree in general. However iIf she moved more her power would be even less but she is a dandy fighter. Point is she was made to do what she did and that is part of her losing, Mathis was just better on the night nad I fearwould be better on any night. Thanks.
@sgtcrab1 not neccisarily. if you look at the first couple of rounds holly got alot of pop in her shots when she circled and planted on the angles and lunging in on pot shots. punching on the move if done on the angles gives you alot of power, you catch your opponent walking into the punch.
@thedaoofthewarrior as an european; no surprise, we knew Holly as an overrated homefighter. look at her elbows, no skilled boxer threw/swings punches like that how good is Mathis? we`ll see in about two months
