  • A wonderous 12 FPS!

  • @TrickyDickStudios, forcing all these HQ shaders on a heavily modded Morrowind when you have a 6 years old computer, don't try it at home. Besides, I knew nothing about optimization. And some of the blame goes to Bethesda, they make games so CPU intensive.

  • @vtastek

It wasn't a personal attack on you or your abilities good sir. Just a snide comment in jest.

  • @TrickyDickStudios, I didn't think it was. ;) Just wanted to clarify the reason why it is that way. I wish I could provide a more smooth video.

  • beautiful....

  • Amazing. I wish I could make my Morrowind look like that but the performance hit is simply too great for me. At least I can run the extra content mods (i.e. Tamriel Rebuilt) just fine, and that is what matters most to me. The guide I recommend most is Knot's guide, listed in the description of this video!

  • Honored you have my guide linked here, vtastek.

  • So, how exactly would I implement this to my game? I really have no idea how to do shaders, I'm desperate for help.

  • @moshmachine,

Basically, you get MGE and it comes with the shaders. In MGEgui, you can add the shaders you like to a list and it works. Morrowind Overhaul has a very easy to follow guide, I recommend checking that. That will give you a good compilation of mods too. Link is in the descriptions.

  • @vtastek First of all, thank you for replying so quickly :) I have MGE and Morrowind Overhaul, I have no idea how to add the shaders to whatever list it is, that's where I'm falling short. Also how did you manage the Depth of Field effect as well?

  • @moshmachine, I found this video "Morrowind Overhaul S&G Installation Videotutorial" on youtube(search it), it should guide you at setting it up. At 7:10, it shows how to enable shaders. Also note the part at 6:33, as it is important for shaders to work.

  • @vtastek So I activated the shaders through the list and installed a bunch more mods. Right after I installed the shaders and launched the game based on the tutorial, now the game intro is all pixelated and the graphics are all screwed up and I can't navigate or see anything on the main menu. When I turn the shaders off, it's fine and the mods I recently installed also work fine. Any suggestions or ideas would be very helpful. As i'd very much like to utilize these shaders.

  • @moshmachine,

Morrowind mods forums(link is in description) are a better place for this discussion. Many users will help you there. I will be there too. Post a thread about this, include your graphics card, windows version, MGE version. Some screenshots can help too. My final advice here is updating your graphics card drivers and latest Directx 9. See you on the forums.

  • @vtastek Just posted a thread.

  • Started crying. The song, the memories, and the rays.

  • Hey it's me again, rewatched this video and I was just wondering, what mods are you using?

  • @TheDoomArt,

Check descriptions. I added a link. His mods are %85 the same with mines. I think above video is only different in Vality7's bitter coast/Balmora mods and Faylynn's balmora textures. You can get them and more from Planet Elder Scrolls.

  • Shame Morrowind doesn't run off the graphics card,

My computer makes so much noise when I play Morrowind, but its perfectly fine at Just Cause 2 max graphics, lol.

  • @noeyedeer2jk89sx,

That's the beauty of Just Cause 2. I can play it almost max with my crappy Pentium D too.

  • Nice framerate :')

  • It looks like another game!

  • Is it possible to enable the engine to work with PS 3.0 ?

  • @palkers,

It is now working in DX 9 mode with MGE. The effect above is PS 3.0. ;)

  • Excellent video. I have to try getting this effect in-game if i ever get a better computer. What was the name of the song in the video btw?

  • @TheDoomArt,

"To the Stars" from Dragonheart soundtrack by Randy Edelman. Excellent movie. I recommend if you haven't seen it.

  • OMG It's beautiful...

If only Grumpy was here to see how far Morrowind has come

  • ... ... ... ... AMAZING!!! I love it!!

  • holy shit this is morrowwind?

  • @dano555666,

    Morrowind it is. :)

  • Its crazy how God Rays add so much to the visuals of any game they are in!

  • every time I see this video I get to play Morrowind again,... and again, and after again again! And Forever <3

    excellent video friend.

  • dragonheart was a good movie

  • Holy shit how did you do this can i get a direct link

  • @LolJesusDied1,

I learned to write HLSL shaders. Then I wrote one. ;)

If you want this you should get MGE(morrowind graphics extender) first. Best way would be starting from official forum thread. I will update the link for you.

We have SSAO, DoF, crysis like waves, atmospheric scattering, motion blur... List goes on! For the best game ever! :)

  • Morrowind is getting better...

  • A lot better.

And this video is history now, check the latest MGE with atmospheric scattering, better sunshafts, new water shader with ripples... And don't forget the new grass texture mods by Vurt, huge improvement from this video's grass.

  • finaly got the godrays to work! i had to put truebloom g6 b4 the sunshaft shader on the list and it looks absolutely amazing! the rays would not show with any of the other shaders i tried i also downloaded the newest water shader wit the real waves to and omfg that is the best water i have ever seen on a game, anny plans to incorperate the sunrays to under water like in crysis? that would look amazing around underwater ruins!

  • So what mod i have to download to get these grafix in Morrowind including the light beams?

  • Lots of mods and MGE. Go to BGS Forums, you will find lists to mods and recommendations.(Links are in the description)

I also listed some of names of the mod authors down in first 5 comments. "Numerous texture artists works can be seen like Connary, Faylynn and Vality7(the jungle),..."

  • Sorry, I was vague with my post. I am aware of the usual graphics expanders and texture enhancers and stuff, but I specifically meant the light beams - whats the mod to get those awesome light beams?

  • Search the forums for the word sunshaft. Or check topics from user named 'phal'. He made a superior one to mine.

  • Thank you!

  • Will you be publishing this shader on any site?

  • Go to BGS forums(link in the description), and ask around. You don't have to be a pro, basic computer knowledge is enough.

  • That's more like a response to Chris. :) Why do you ask? Do you want to study it, or asking it for Morrowind? It is released though...

  • Oh I just wanted to know if there was any way to download it. I checked our the forums, seems like it's mostly BETA's and so on. I think I'll wait until MGE 3.8.1 is released. :)

  • It is normal for MGE and shaders to stay in BETA state, they're constantly under development. I recommend to give it a try, it is perfectly safe. :)

  • Alright I will. :)

  • Hey vtastek, is there any way a noob like me can get this to run? I mean do you "publish" what you did here or sth? Man, I really don't know much about this... can you give me a hint where to start looking? I can't write programs or anything like that... how do I get

Crysis like wavy water, caustics, DoF,SSAO, Dynamic weather, HDR without being a pro?

Video looks great, any pitty you might take on me is much appreciated ;-)

  • Oh, just found your website. I can't wait for Animated Morrowind to come out! This is gonna bring a revolution to my favorite game!!

  • wow! i never thought that such an old graphical effect will be called by noobs as dx12 raytracing lol

guys, this is simple, very very simple, but i must admit that fantasy games looks better with such things. about performance, don't be afraid, number of passes to achieve these shifting and resolution of textures may be varied, so even old hardware without pixel shaders at all may handle this (if developer implement it)

    good luck

  • Nobody here called this raytracing, who called this raytracing? But you're right it is the simplest thing. But it is also a trademark for a fantasy game called Crysis you know. :P

I am a fan of your work Boris, thanks for stopping by.

PS. MGE is open source, if you want to add some GI and/or IBL you are very welcome. :P

  • just mean, that folks always trying to say something like "wow! incredible! better than crysis" it's so funny.

may i suggest you a little? add on the edges of "rays" a bit blue shift. try this to fix oversaturation of your adaptation:

float graysrc=dot(src.xyz, 0.333); //luma computation is useless here

    float3 cinv=src.xyz/(graysrc+0.0001);

float res=graysrc/(amount*screenbrightness*graysrc + 0.85);//0.85 make some space for oversaturation

    res.xyz=cinv*res;

    good luck!

  • This is an old video, I fixed it. FOV was wrong, that too fixed. I'll add offscreen rendering of sun, a sun mask and some foggy noise. And I don't want it to be visible all the time. Only high contrast areas with cloudy weather around magic hours. I also want to add temporal glare.

    Thanks again Boris.

PS. I tried GTA4 ENBSeries but it works for one second. Then it stops and only first frame's effects stay on screen. When I move around I see ghosting of that frame. I'm very interested in IBL.

  • GTX260 would be enough?

  • I think so. :) Performance bottle neck is more about single CPU core speed. After 3.4 Ghz everything becomes smooth. It is a 2001 game, it is still stable after all the abusing we have done.

I can run 6 shaders with 8800gts. Benchmark your system with Crysis, expect same FPS rates. :P

    Crysis like wavy water,

    caustics

    DoF

    SSAO

    Dynamic weather

    HDR

Everything you can expect from a next-gen title. Except physics and shadows. But that will be done too someday.

  • i just installed the latest MGE beta and when i try to open it i just get an error message and it crashes, do i need to re install morrowind and delete all files from old MGE for it to work?

  • Go to the forums, there you can get all the information and help.

If registry settings are not created or corrupted, MGEgui won't work. Using the launcher to set a different resolution is enough to pass it.

Or it is about vista/7 won't let applications access to registry unless they run with admin rights.

Or you haven't got the latest directx, .NET c++ redist.

    :)

  • Just awesome! I wonder what DirectX 11 can do with this game using tesselation!!!

  • Oh my.. I must grab all of these! I have a feeling it won't be easy to find them all x3

  • enb is now dead in my eyes

  • There is enb for Dragon Age.

  • This game just gets more epic every day...

  • It does! I'm almost crying ;)

  • This looks fabulous! You did a great job in HDR and plant rendering. The atmospheric scattering is really contributing to the realism. I also like that you used the light shafts only cautiously. I really feel like I want to play this game :-)

  • The game is known by its modding flexibility.

Numerous texture artists works can be seen like Connary, Faylynn and Vality7(the jungle),

HDR shader by Polik Gronak(note that there are at least 10 different HDR shaders available for different tastes written by different authors!),

    DoF and SSAO from Knu,

and more developers working on MGE(open source) like Phal, Krzymar, Peachykeen, Timeslip, Liztail...

The credits probably would of taken 10 pages...

  • Hey starvald, thank you for the tutorial helping vtastek bringing the crepscular rays to MW =)

  • at 1:12 notice the detail on grass.

The content provided by community and Bethesda rocks! This game deserves this and much more anyhow... :)<

  • Awesome video man =) I can't wait to play with this once my machine arrives!!!
