First part he's praying, shouting agrily. He realizes it's all over.
Then comes what he is saying to the congregation, starting with the "i broke down..." He starts his rant, and what they don't know is he has them all locked into the room he's speaking to them in. Then he says that crap in the end, finishing with "we have sinned." Then fires break out and shit, and they're all trying to escape. It's all in slo-mo and he stands still, staring...
Ekdahl(drums) and Zander(keys) are doing an amazing job! Fuck what a performance! They do this awesome song so much justice! The rest of the crew should not be forgotten either!
The live version of this is so much better, I got the album fairly recently, the live version is just much more powerful I feel. Though there is some really cool piano stuff that is harder to hear on this version. Still, Evergrey is really fantastic, it is rare a band actually plays better live.
I'm a Christian, and this song used to offend me when I didn't know the true meaning of it, but I don't think it's showing God, nor Christianity itself, in a negative light. I think it's about corruption in the church, and using religion as an excuse to say your better than everybody else, and that everybody that doesn't think so will be sent to Hell. Just because someone believes in Christ doesn't mean that your a good person, atleast that's what I believe.
@MetalFromHeaven94 I agree . but living your life according to christ helps. the christians people type or sing about don't live their life like christ
@MetalFromHeaven94 You do realize that Christ said exactly that right? That he's better than everyone else (son of god exempt from that laws) and that the only unforgivable sin that will lead you to hell is that you dont believe that.
@MrDezokokotar Wow, you have been majorly misinformed. Christ said no such thing as that He is better than everyone else and is exempt from the Laws....He is God! God cannot sin, it is against His nature, it is impossible. So is He exempt from the Laws? No, but He is sinless, He never breaks the Laws. And the only unforgivable sin is grieving the Holy Spirit. Don't believe me, study the Bible, learn for yourself. Don't spew back what others tell you, obtain true knowledge.
@purecat123 Would you agree that being sinless is greater than being a sinner? If yes then clearly, saying Jesus is sinless because he is God implies he is greater than anyone else because everyone else is a sinner. Thats what i meant. And yes God is expemt from his own laws because he can do whatever he wants, kill for example. The law is thou shalt not kill. But God kills, he can even command others to kill in his name as seen in the Old Testament. And i have studied the Bible.
@ vadinmuur: Only one explanation of the whole context of this song: Mankind has turned his back on God, thinking they are better, smarter, higher. Through the last few years I clearly found out that we are not...
@narcoticcc Do you really think that? I agree SOMEWHAT. However, the first part would make no sense under that interpretation.
I think that it's discussing the incompatibility of God with man. Man is much too impatient and fanatic to truly get to God (to the point of even the preachers rejecting God). So we'll find our own way to salvation, rejecting God. So, inevitably, we're stuck with our imperfection (not a word of prayer, where's the confession?) and are doomed to never meet God.
As far as I know the whole album "the inner circle" dealed with the phenomenon of sects! So I guess this song is about a person that now realises how his sect destroyed his life.
Who says these things anyway? It must be from a movie or a historical recording surely. it is too emotional to be the singer. Somebody must know!!!!!!!
maybe its many unspoken payers of agony. maybe its a sermon of love watching friends fall by the wayside. maybe a soldier, or a thousand soldiers. maybe its a father weeping for his kids. it shouldnt matter who said it. what matters is the fact that it stirred an emotion in you. it made you uncomfortable and you want a face to assign it to so it doesnt hurt so much.
I tried to contact the singer to no avail...anyway, I think they are bits of a longer version/speech/sermon. I haven't heard the 'Inner Circle' so I don't know any details. I'd go for a Korea American veteran and don't ask me why...It is emotional, of course, and quite schizoid, perhaps that's why it was used. In any case, I listen to it a lot, i'm still waiting for an epiphany on the subject. You see I'm a Historian (contemporary) and I'm a bit interested from that point of view as well!
Definitely one of their finest, most emotional songs where the music truly covers the range of emotions from helplessness through to disbelief through to anger. It fits the soliloquy very well. Besides which, I always like a song that questions religion but that's the agnostic that I am. :)
When the Walls Go Down ends the actual Inner Circle album, the song is one of the most powerful mind affecting, emotional songs ever written in the history of music. No other song has ever moved me nor brought me to the brink of tears, and left me with such a shock and need for silence afterwards. I can't even begin to explain the song, theres so much involved the only way for anyone to understand is to hear the song and go through the same emotional mind flay that I went through.
In an interview Tom Englund said that it's a recording of an actual person speaking, not made specifically for the album. But he wouldn't say where they got it from.
When I heard and read the text of the song, brought me to tears. The beautiful and poignant song, the greatest I have ever heard.
