  • this is great. once corporations start building these all over they'll think, "who cares about preserving the ocean? we can surf anywhere now."

  • anything to get get people out of the ocean. THERE MY FUCKIN WAVES!

  • surfing teaches you the fluidity of life itself, surfing is already becoming a sport like skating has become. surfing isnt a sport, surfing is surfing.

  • This is cool but doesnt capture surfing. Surfing is actually being in the ocean and choosing the right waves, fighting the currents, crowds, reefs, sharks, point breaks, etc, etc

  • Side 1: Surfing isn't about that its about going out into nature and respecting it you are killing the sport blah blah...

Side 2: Now I can use this to practice so when I go out I'll be more comfortable and perform much better...

  • @salvuhdor Side 3: Someone whom grew up surfing and then had to move to the middle of no where because of the f*cked up economy might now be able to surf again.

  • This will be the most crowded place in the world. Good luck trying to pay 100$ per wave rather than real waves that are free

  • i love his eyes

  • It will be full of chlorine and people will piss in it.

  • For a more realistic experience they should hire some local punks to intimidate and assault any tourists who come to use the wave pool.

  • Wow, some people are just biased towards creative ideas. The next time your great idea elicits silence or eye rolls, you might just pity those people. Do they even know what a creative idea looks like?..and that creativity, hailed as a positive change agent, actually makes people squirm? Dont know about you @blisstits but ANY kind of surfing is magic to me..the only killing going on here are the ones we know as "dreamkillers"

  • I'm sorry but this kills the "Magic" behind surfing.

  • @blisstits Only if you ride it, natural waves still exist.

  • This thing has been in development for years. Where is the scaled prototype? There isn't one because this technology will never work.

  • I think thats an awesome idea....its a beautiful transition from a sporting career into a much more global surf industry. The aspect of being able to surf in the desert, or anywhere you could build such a waterpark in countries that were landlocked that never head experienced a wave and bring the message of the surf culture to the masses. The surf is the love of mOther Ocean. Peace to all who surf.

  • @Laurensmaasable Yeah right let's have McSurf USA in Alice Springs.

  • yeah i think ima get one in my back yard

  • The video shows slater surfing teahupoo. Teahupoo recreation in a wave pool? lol

  • What makes an epic day of surfing so special is being conscious of how countless variables (ie. winds, swell size/direction/period, weather, and you managing around your hectic life to be at the right place at the right time) merge into one event. For most this only happens a few days a year and is why those memory's of catching your/any spot firing are burned into your memory.

Kelly half asses nothing and if this comes to fruition in will no doubt be epic. But in my mind, it misses the point.

  • fuck this shit. leave surfing to the ocean, not some aquatics center.

  • Too bad this is never going to happen nobody realizes how much power and water something like this takes sorry champ you don't have that much money to waste

  • @SenneffRules I think of all people, Slater realises what makes a wave...

  • All this praise for Kelly, pity it isn't an original idea. The issue being Kelly doesn't hold patents on the wave pool... Australian Greg Webber has patents for his original concept in the USA, China, Japan and Australia.

Sometimes it is nice to know both sides of the story, not just the side with the greatest media saturation.

  • @tweakbvrs patents for what? kelly has his own specific wavepool design

  • could someone please light some incense for this god

  • I TOTALLY WANT TO RIDE THIS WAVE!!!!

Surfing without fearing sharks, reefs, jelly fish, undertows and other challenges beginning surfers undergo. Definitely looking forward to this becoming a reality and seeing more.

    Thanks Kelly!!!!

  • Do this Kelly!! for all the landlocked surfers. I'm serious!

  • I don't like the idea so much as to surf the wave but that everyone else will be, and then the ocean will be MINE!

  • Does anyone else think kelly already has this and thats how he keeps winning world titles?

  • me gusto kelly es freddy boy pr team 8 surf

  • The wave in the pic would break on the outside.

A stationary wave would take less Land and be much more controllable.

There are not that many ways to archive such a wave...they will get in trouble with wavegarden. Finally patent madness has arrived in surfing.

I love though how I predicted the technology and even the shapes of the pools right in a work written years ago....

  • @heavyweather

correction...the wave could break on either side...depending on the technology used.

  • this would be great in states where you don't have an ocean period. interesting but still can't replace the real thing.???

catch a wave and your sitting on top of the world...Beach Boys.

  • It would be an awesome novelty but nothing can beat the challenge of getting a barrelled in the ocean. The unpredictability of the ocean is what makes our sport so addictive and no matter how many waves you get in a swimming pool it will never prepare you for what the ocean can throw at you.

  • FULL ON KE11Y. That's so awesome I can't wait to ride it one day. Keep up breaking the boundaries my man. Regards from Barbados!

  • To be honest, i think it will take the adventure out of finding breaks and exploring places. Sometimes the surf can be shit but other times you will have the oppertunity to surf a wave that will never break the same again:L

  • @jrksurfskatee I totally disagree... finding a break and searching for the best wave around the world will NEVER die.. this is just adding to the possible locations... This is just man doing what God created us to do, to be creative and to try to be like Him.

  • I'm pretty sure they have the wave breaking the wrong way in the image. To be able to continuously ride around a donut shape, you have to be accelerating towards the centre, hence the wave breaking that way.

  • @ajweiry

Not if the wave is created from the outside...look for "surfthering"

If the are using a technology similar to "wavegarden" the wave could break on the inner and outer banks.

When the ring is big enough you wold ride just like in a bowl.

  • How do you launch into it?

  • Hmmm, lets encourage equity and opportunity for all in waves across the world. I think the choice of language and what this implies in the water can be improved upon - not surf nazis - just surfers, will do well. While I am definitely a fan of innovative thinking and design, I am not sure about the holistic surf experience being absent as, of course, it will be here, but I guess this will be the sum of those experiential parts - a gym for honing technique and working out in the water.

  • Hopefully this will mean the real surf is less crowded

  • to me it is all about marketing,

  • wtf, this will not gonna be the future man - that doesn't have anything to do with surfing anymore - at all

  • @schraubenzieher123 really? because im sure riding a perfect barreling wave still has something to do with surfing

    =

  • @schraubenzieher123

Water, board, surfer....schaut sehr nach surfen aus für mich...

  • is that the eiffel tower in the background of the picture of the park!!!!!!!!

  • how much for a franchise kelly? can i pay in installments? :-)

  • @sorihewi

    Wavegarden starts at 3mio €

  • Ridiculous. What's next, snowboarding inside a big refridgerator?

  • @jtad3 already have that.snowplanet in nz

  • Build one (or more) on the Gold Coast and you're a rich happy man...

overseas tourists, good weather, huge local surf population, brisbane population....

  • ...(technologies for an authentic world class surfing experience.)

it should read; ..face of wave expierience and at first class comforts

  • WHERE`S THE FUCKING WAVE...

  • Very cool. I can't wait to see this become a reality.

  • holy shit

  • Bring one to Central Florida Kelly.. Bring it home.. YAHOO!

  • This will lead to a whole new generation of surf nazis that will stop at nothing to achieve world domination... skaters and snowboarders will have to bow down, all others will be slaughtered - no one will live on land anymore. There will be no division by countries anymore - the world will be ruled by surf nazis. This is the future!

  • Bringing the surf experience to middle America? Brilliant.

  • @natesphotos If that happened then 'Christian Surfers' would transform from a movement to an army, and take on a whole new meaning.

  • Thank you so much Kelly for your help in this creation. This has been a dream of mine since I was a kid as well. I grew up skating half pipes before heavily surfing and always wished that surfing could have such a platform so we could ride the same exact wave with the same exact conditions every single day like a skateboarder gets to ride a half pipe. Please make this dream come true...and soon!

  • Dope. Kelly, I really hope you can create something!
