  • It seems like I remember someone identifying Martin Luther King for $10Gs, the song being "To Dream The Impossible Dream".

  • So great to see a $10k win, thanks for posting!

  • I love it when Ron Ely signs off to Tommy Oliver. I miss that show.

  • I recognize Groucho in the second picture.

  • 24G's wuz big money in 1980.... and Ron Ely sucks as host... He always visually reminded me of like he could be Frank Gorshin's brother ;-)

  • 24G's wuz big money in 1980....

  • Is he the only person to win $10,000 more then once?

  • Ron Ely was sooooooo handsome

  • @oceanbound222 And sooooo humorous!

  • Wasn't Groucho dead by the time this aired?

  • Comment removed

  • @shoredude2 Groucho died in 1977, this episode aired in 1980. This is probably why Ron says the photos range "from childhood to maturity", rather than "childhood to the present day".

  • Nice guess, no onne ever gets it on the first picture. Must of had no baby pictures of Graucho Marks. ??

  • I really liked Face The Music, they need to bring that back to t.v., I want to see classic game shows. not these reality shows.

  • @spotmop31 i'm all for that

  • I used to love this show as a kid, I had all but forgotten about it. Thanks for the posting! :)

  • I remember when ed originally did this in 1980

  • He'd seen the picture before somewhere? ...Is that even fair?

  • Yes it is. You still had to buzz in with the correct answer to the tune before you could take a guess. As you clearly see in the video, his opponent buzzed in and was wrong. Plus you're going on a game show, you wouldn't bone up a little bit before you go on?

  • Exactly...it's no different than remembering some factoid you'd seen in a trivia book that just happened to come up as a question on, say, Jeopardy.

  • All right, I guess it's cool then.

  • How would that be unfair? You're a freakin' wimp.

  • I knew that was Grocho Marx as soon I seen the picture, you can tell in the eyes.

  • That's something I never saw when I watched this show as a kid, and I never thought I'd ever see someone take home the 10 grand. That's unreal that it happened two days in a row!

  • The Day before this he identified Sammy Davis, Jr. for $10,000.

  • Yeah, really...and Ed's next show, where he went for the car, was a real nail-biter!

  • Darn You RIAA!

  • at 2:44 graucho marx is in the audience

  • NO HE'S NOT!!!

    Groucho Marx died in 1977.

  • it is a joke

  • Well, Excuuuuuuuuse Me!!!!!

  • It's a tasteless joke, therefore, thumbs down.

  • I knew you was joking, and I thought it was funny.

  • Amazing win. Just to win the $10,000 once is tough enough. But 2 days in a row is unprecedented. To be quite honest, if I were in Ed's shoes in that moment, the tears would be flowing freely.

  • Nice sideburns Ed...

  • Does anyone have any theories as to why the most common top cash winnings on a game show is either $5,000.00 or $10,000.00?

  • Probably since it's a fairly round number.

  • These days it's more like $100,000 or $1,000,000!

  • My grandmother (lord rest her soul) had the BIGGEST crush on Ron Ely. Good find, havent seen this show in years

  • This was one of the few times we actually got to see the audience on FtM...didn't happen too often.

  • I never seen anyone win $10,000 in cash on "Face the Music" before. This showed was aired in the 1980's I use to watch this show on TV as well and nobody won the $10,000 on the show.

  • I have seen it numerous times. He was the only guy to do it 2 days in a row.

  • I would have guessed "Bicycle Built For Two" for the first song as well.

  • I've noticed that in this clip, there's an extended version of the theme, which I've never heard before. Does this play every time someone wins the $10K?

  • Never mind.

  • They also played that musical extension for 5th and 10th game wins...unfortunately, it was dropped after the 1st season.

  • First season spiel:"Do you know whose baby picture this is? The answer is worth $10,000 in cash on Face The Music!"

Second season intro:"Can you identify this baby picture of this famous person? Two contestants will try for $10,000 in cash on Face The Music!"

  • When Face The Music first started, for the first few weeks at least, it was $10,000 in prizes.

  • Actually, there were several rotating spiels used for the opening teaser during both seasons, including the ones you mentioned:

"Do you know what famous person this baby grew up to be? Two contestants will try for $10K in cash on FtM!"

"Do you know what famous person this baby became? Tonight, two contestants try to ID this face for $10K in cash on FtM!"

"Can you recongize this famous person as a baby? Two contestants will try for $10K in cash on FtM!"

  • the commercial outro music would later be used on Name That Tune four years later

  • Albeit slightly sped-up...though it's not surprising, considering Tommy Oliver led the band for both shows, one of several things FtM and Lange's NTT had in common (John Harlan announced both shows [at least during FtM's second season, anyway], Ray Horl and Peggy Touchstone were the producers, and both shows used a taped shot for the opening).

  • At some point, I think Jack Clark was announcing for Jim Lange's NTT. I could be wrong.

  • No, only Harlan ever announced it, as far as I know.

  • And thanks to YOU for spoiling the answer before I even got to see it.

  • i'm surprised that he didn't end up becoming the all-time money winner on the show. (he was certainly well on his way after those 2 wins.

  • He might have, had he not been defeated on his 7th(?) day...ironically, the challenger who defeated him (Sarabeth "Sassy" Rothfeld) went on to become the show's only undefeated champion, retiring after 10 wins (by the time another 10-day champ came along in the 2nd season, they'd changed the rules so you could stay on until defeated).

  • That's not ironic in the least. Dictionary, people.

  • Yeah, my bad...this is why I was never a contestant on Wordplay. :-D

  • @AdamNedeff Would you like your asshole licked for posting the clip, or for shitting all over yak's contribution to the discussion.

I'll take some head for joining the discussion two years later, thanks.

  • @614Spider Yak & I actually know each other, FYI.

  • @614Spider - Thanks for the backup, but no worries...Adam and I are friends online, so I didn't take his comment on my misuse of "irony" personally. :-)

  • I wonder whatever happened to Ed

  • I've got this episode, but I gotta admit...you've got good quality. Thanks for the vid, Adam

  • The $10,000 Wins on this show were always exciting, and I believe Ed is the only one to win it twice in a row. Is that correct?

  • Yes, Ed is the only person to win the $10,000 twice in a row. In case you are wondering, the mystery face he identified the day before this one was Sammy Davis, Jr.

  • Adam, Do you have anymore clips with a $10,000 winners? If so, please put it on for me. I just love this show.

  • East Side, West Side served as the anthem to The Belmont Stakes, until 1997. It was replaced by New York, New York.
