I like this video, nice work! Even without any explicit clues, everyone assumes the man must be a pedophile. The ending works because it flies in the face of our automatic, universal assumption. As I said, nice work! Check out my channel, I make animations also.
I think I understand the meaning. All of the "beautiful" people ignored him, while the "ugly paedophile" drove him home and treated him with respect. You shouldn't judge people by their looks.
Really? I wanted the focus to be more on his absentee parents and the effect that had on their kid. I definitely don't advocate getting in vans with creepy people.
I understood this one. What an interesting way you went about your message. I still don't quite understand, however, your video entitled reflection. Can you explain that one to me?
the guy could had been a pedophile that wasn't at "that" point yet to take the kid. Or, maybe, he just wanted to be near a kid that reminded him of his kid that isn't there anymore.
But then again - I shouldn't try to decrypt something that might not had had a real point to begin with. Could have been made with elements that were just to make you to feel uncomfortable with the situation.
Yeah I agree with you. The first time I saw this video I thought he was a pedophile or would kidnap the child. But he just drove him home. I know this may sound silly but I always thought the guy was Santa because of it being Christmas Eve and him saying it was going to be a long night. I think the meaning is not to judge someone based on looks.
this is such a great video, all of your videos are. im so excited that one of my videos in in this ones related videos section *silently freaking out*
I feel as though I may be acting like an overzealous english teacher in my synopsis but:
It seems as though the child left home because his parent's didn't pay attention to him - hell they didn't even seem to care he was gone. He didn't buy anything at the mall either - maybe he wanted to see what a functional family was like. The man offered him a ride home and even though all of our parents tell us not to talk to strangers, he accepted, probably because of the ineffectualness of them.trust
not only does this ignite peoples paranoia of strange men.
but it still shows not to judge what you see rather than what you hear.
Very young, *children*.. Mall.. *toys*.. stranger dropping off a "gift" being the child. to his house. and the wednesday before christmas... the man had a "long night" ahead of him. could this be santas first stop?
Had the man in this video been clean, shaven, wearing a business suit, etc. I would still be wary of the situation: Where is this adult man taking this child? why is he not taking him to lost and found?
Correct. Now what seems to be the message in the video, from what i have gathered, is that we should not judge people by the way they look. What I am saying is that whether the man looked disheveled or not, the viewer is still wary of this situation. Be it wrong or not, we would worry for the child no matter what the person looks like.
To be honest, I didn't fully "get" what was going on. But that is just me, and I tend not to understand these kinds of works or arts. But still, I did like it.
I mean, the whole time I knew the man would get the child safely home, but for some reason my heart was stilling racing.
re: culleyb; the ephs are williams' mascot. everyone knows that middlebury's mascot is a kid in a blazer with a set of golf clubs and skis in the back of his dad's old mercedes.
I was expecting something bad to happen when he got in the car with the stranger - just goes to show that sometimes even people who look creepy really do mean well - great message, Paxson!
Better yet - the drive home is innocuous and the experience at home is subversive. Also, the boy is naked in both scenarios, able to be undone at either end of that spectrum.

hey paxson, why is it that you have advertisements on your videos?
is it because of the software you use?
hellfreak007 3 years ago
its because hes a youtube partner. partners get ads on their videos because its clear that theyre popular nd more likely to be seen.

pretty people act ugly as ugly people act pretty/kind
RookieZeratul 3 years ago
I don't think they act that way in particular, it just stands out more when they do.
Beyond the surface, I think it's easiest to fall into acting how you're treated, but it's mostly about personal will.
Is this what you're saying?

Better yet - the drive home is innocuous and the experience at home is subversive. Also, the boy is naked in both scenarios, able to be undone at either end of that spectrum.
The driver in the van? Criminal or Samaritan?
The party-goers: lushes or socialites?
The boy: victim or cognizant body?

Wonderful to once again see a video from you. It's been a long while.
How sad this one... What a lonely kid.
Strange the way the impression of the stranger changes by the end. He struck me as slightly salad-fingers-esqe at first...
