Yay for AMD. Building a budget beast of a pc is hard, processor wise AMD have done me a huge favor :D Intel's are just a bit too expensive for me at the moment.
I'm with a AMD Phenom X4 960T @ 4.2GHz (Default 3,00GHz-3.40T) and everything works just perfectly.. Was cheap.. works great.. and if I bought an equivalent Intel instead of the AMD.. I'd have to give money the Intel costed for a cooling system too..

And in some segments AMD have competetive products.
I built a rig, for almost no money at all i5 760 @ 4.5ghz and Gtx 560Ti @1.020 ghz 10gb of ram, it suits me.

You see i use my computer for other things than gaming, and with CUDA enabled software, i can utalize the power of my GPU. Something i couldnt do with my HD6870 now sitting in my HTPC.

you can get a 6 core opteron around the upper 1s to lower 2 hundreds now and they overclock like i7s they start pretty low but can be boost up quite easily without over heating they are good overclocks i would go with opterons and im actually going to try one for gaming and see how that works

@cuypers3123 athlon are slow, even a phenom x2 can beat the 4 cores, GTX 550ti is quite slow but u can paly at very low at low res, if u want 1920x1080+ at least High, get Phenom x4+ or Intel Quad core+ and GTX 560ti+ ram at least 4 is enough

But because people, when doing these do not compare the price, but performance, they usually match it up with a higher Intel CPU to compete. But if you have unlimited money, and wanted more performance, Intel has faster onces, they are just not worth the price.
it's unfair that reviewers use testing software biased towards intel design. AMD chips are very different. Tom's hardware recently did a review using their own test software and showed the reality of a 1090t thuban core vs core i7 930.
Journalists are just using test software fed to them - rather than doing the hard work to be fully independent and therefore give AMD a fair chance.
Bulldozer are much more capable than "reviews" showed - because the test software is favourable to intel. unfair.

@DoomTra1n Yes I actually just read a study done by, well, I cannot remember Lol. But it was buy a popular and trusted tech review site. They did an experiment with the 8150 to see how much of an OC they could get on it. Remember the 8 core cpu has 4 modules. Each module containing 2 cores that share certain resources. They got BD all the way to 5.2 ghz on AIR! But they had to disable 3 modules(6 cores) to do so. But they were stable at 4.9 ghz no problem on all 8 cores:)
@telemetry9 This is just simply not true. IPC is where it's at. SB has it; BD don't. For this reason BD gets significantly less work done per clock compared to its Intel counterparts. That's just the way it is. Pit the 2600k against BD in any processor intensive program in which 4 or less cores are used and 2600k will come out on top each and every time. Hell it even beats it in most multi threaded apps. It has nothing to do with "favoring Intel". Intel has much more efficient IPC

I get 7.54 at 4.2 ghz on my 1090t. I think it helps to have good graphics card in this test; Not that it should. I get 7.61 at 4.4 ghz. Overclocking at the higher/highest speed is really not that beneficial. Just give it a modest bump and stay there. It will be more reliable and last longer.
Well, he hasn't exactly tested the reliability; Although the AMD processor is faster, and noticeably so, the Intel might (not saying it is) be more reliable than the AMD. If you download an Intel App, I've heard you can overclock and modify your processor very easily.

@KingStivan I'm running an i7 920 @ 4.2Ghz HT enabled, burned in 72 hours straight with Prime95 on high heat setting. I can push it to 4.4, tested stable for 24 hours, but honestly, why? I leveled out at 78C with a Noctua D-14 in a room with ambient temps of 17-18C (About 63F). So...there goes your argument, right out the window. And yes, I run this speed 24/7 for over two years now. Why? Because I can.

@francesco97ful For price definately. If you were comparing them by price, not power, then AMD would absolutly smoke Intel. But because people, when doing these do not compare the price, but performance, they usually match it up with a higher Intel CPU to compete. But if you have unlimited money, and wanted more performance, Intel has faster onces, they are just not worth the price.

it's unfair that reviewers use testing software biased towards intel design. AMD chips are very different. Tom's hardware recently did a review using their own test software and showed the reality of a 1090t thuban core vs core i7 930.
Journalists are just using test software fed to them - rather than doing the hard work to be fully independent and therefore give AMD a fair chance.
Bulldozer are much more capable than "reviews" showed - because the test software is favourable to intel. unfair.

@DoomTra1n Yes I actually just read a study done by, well, I cannot remember Lol. But it was buy a popular and trusted tech review site. They did an experiment with the 8150 to see how much of an OC they could get on it. Remember the 8 core cpu has 4 modules. Each module containing 2 cores that share certain resources. They got BD all the way to 5.2 ghz on AIR! But they had to disable 3 modules(6 cores) to do so. But they were stable at 4.9 ghz no problem on all 8 cores:)

@telemetry9 This is just simply not true. IPC is where it's at. SB has it; BD don't. For this reason BD gets significantly less work done per clock compared to its Intel counterparts. That's just the way it is. Pit the 2600k against BD in any processor intensive program in which 4 or less cores are used and 2600k will come out on top each and every time. Hell it even beats it in most multi threaded apps. It has nothing to do with "favoring Intel". Intel has much more efficient IPC

I get 7.54 at 4.2 ghz on my 1090t. I think it helps to have good graphics card in this test; Not that it should. I get 7.61 at 4.4 ghz. Overclocking at the higher/highest speed is really not that beneficial. Just give it a modest bump and stay there. It will be more reliable and last longer.

@KingStivan I'm running an i7 920 @ 4.2Ghz HT enabled, burned in 72 hours straight with Prime95 on high heat setting. I can push it to 4.4, tested stable for 24 hours, but honestly, why? I leveled out at 78C with a Noctua D-14 in a room with ambient temps of 17-18C (About 63F). So...there goes your argument, right out the window. And yes, I run this speed 24/7 for over two years now. Why? Because I can.
