  • ... if I didn't know any better, I'd say 1:38 inspired the "Spongebob"...

  • 0:10 Party Rock shuffle

  • It's interesting to see that some of the moves have survived and are now used by artists of the present time. For example, check the "shaky feet move" (I don't know the actual name of this movement <-3 ) at 0:49 and compare it to some dance steps in the video "Party Rock Anthem" by LMAO (final dance off scene towards the end of the video).

  • Question for author:

Does all movies are over 70 years? And they don't have any copyrights and I can download this legall?

  • Has anyone got an mp3 of the track called hot feet that starts at 0.22?

    Much appreciated.

  • Back when dancing was actually dancing! Thanks so much for posting! I watch this all the time, but what's the name of the last song?? Thanks!

  • Crazy Quilt

  • @Aaron1912 Thank you! :)

  • I learned this stuff and finally saw what seemed perfect to me! Damn I was born in the wrong time period! >.< (the 90's)

  • FANTASTIC!!...Flappers, Charleston,Black Bottom and the Shimmy dances. These were wild times. Great video! thankyou!

  • Would it be okay if I use snippets of the video? With credits to you, of course.

  • Sure. It's ok with me.

  • Everyday I'm shuffling....

  • compare 1:40 of this video to 5:30 of LMFAO's Party Rock anthem. (KQ6zr6kCPj8) Same steps exactly. She's shufflin'

  • They had some serious swag back then.

  • I still love the chick that rolls her eyes and does Jazz hands at 1:47. I'd like to hook up with that cutie but she probably died twenty or thirty years ago!

  • @jaleach123 hahahaha! true

  • We're gunna be living in our 20's soon! Ahhh so cool :p

  • I NEED THIS HEARTBEAT SONG!! Please let me know hows song is it???!!!

  • You can only imagine what the dance of our 20's will be... oh it's coming quickly, kids. 2020s... yikes.

  • Anyone know what the name of the first song?

  • shuffling everyday

  • what is the name/ interpret of the second song?

  • Great vid Aaron, though you could have saved yourself a lot of posts by putting the track listing in the description. ;) Keep up the good work, it's appreciated.

Any chance of a pointer towards the version of Crazy Quilt used here if it's on the Tube? (Or an upload if it's not!!)

  • The jazz band was called Charles Creath and his Jazz-O-Maniacs

  • @Aaron1912 Cheers, found it. /watch?v=8LuOtdhZo9g

  • @walkinthaprospects are these vids fast forwarded or was it actually the trend to dance that fast bk then?

  • @hades1234567 Great-granny knew how to cut a rug!!

You only have to listen to the music to get an idea of the pace that they were dancing at.

  • I wish I could experience being 21 in every decade, especially the 20s!

  • Awesome.. They did the shuffle allready in those years.. haha

  • How were they ever able to dance without kicking the shit out each other?

  • @pucksterz12 right?! i would have been a horrible partner

  • naive to think todays musc is about sex and this is not,

anyone who thinks the end result or the forethought here is not sex is not watching.

  • Haha watch this video on mute while listening to Pitbull's "Give Me Everything Tonight"

  • Next time I go to the club I'm dancing like this.

  • I wish it was the 1920s. All that popular music is about today is just sex or partying... :P

  • I wish I lived in the 20's, then I could've been a flapper. :D

  • EVERYDAY I'M SHUFFLIN' !

  • Watch this muted while listening to present day music for much lols ^_^

  • So fabulous to see these! So much style and grace has been lost in this day and age...how wonderful it would have been to be alive in the 20's!

I love hosting Charleston parties...gives back that sense of innocence and elegance...thank you so much for posting these amazing videos!

  • Funny......

  • Great collection of clips. Makes me regret missing the '20 which looked like so much fun here.

  • I know I'm not the only that saw what we call "The SpongeBob" at least 3 times. There really is nothing new under the sun, is there?

  • Does anyone know all of the songs in the vid? I know CHARLESTON from Spike Jones and HOT FEET from Paul Specht - are there any other songs?

  • Just a great great era in which I wished to live. My fave videoclip.

  • Brilliant - just now occurs to me that we have lost the ability to have fun and be happy so wholeheartedly. Great compilation- thank you.

  • Nowadays shuffling/hardstep ^^,

  • That was the cat's pajamas

  • funny

  • What is the very first song??

  • How absolutely MARVIE!

  • I like it.

Did anyone else notice that the footage has been looped, repeatedly?

  • @voltamp no? all the footage is different, none of it's repeated

  • @ClearlyBlazed Looped backwards and forwards on a timescale of a a second or so. A single dance step becomes two or three. You can confirm it by watching the repetition of movements of non-dancing people in the background.

  • @voltamp ahh yeah I see what you mean now. Yeah its a pretty stupid effect

  • excellent job in resurrecting these special videos. We are a cenior citizen community having an anniversary party. We would like to show this to our residents and their families with your permission.

  • Thanks. Sure. You have my permission. Hope they enjoy it.

  • this dance look like shuffling

  • What is this dance style called? Im a fire dancer performing in a cabaret style and need some dance tips. If you know where i can got for some research let me know :D

  • @JaxFlow This is jazz dancing. If anything else, you're looking for "the charleston".

  • MAAAAN white people couldn't dance back then... i mean listen to the music, i would think that that fast paced piano would inspire some kind of cool moves, but they're just flailing their arms up in the air haha. The tap moves were impressive though.

Aaannnd I know the camera is old so it skips frames. AAaaaannd I know it's harder than it looks. AAAaand I'm as white as led zeppelin...

  • @max8987 They definitely can dance.

  • GCSE HISTORY IS THE BEST!!!!

  • I'm trying to convince myself that watching this is strictly for GCSE history purposes but am failing to stop myself from getting up and trying it out for myself LOOOOL

  • LOL 1:23, they in the street doing it! Loves it.

  • I'm doing hardcore study of the 1920's and your videos are, by far, the most helpful. With lists of inventions, dances (as well as how to do them) and overall montages, I thank you very much.

    ~Mr. Green

  • and they think people today look stupid for shuffling :)

  • dance!!!!

  • I wonder what these youngsters' parents and grandparents were thinking about this new dance? I would think they had thoughts about what we have with today's music and fashion.

  • Hello, I would like to know the tittle and the band who plays the music during this vidéo. Thanks a lot!

  • What a marvelous age indeed; all the problems we face today can be traced to the policies of Whitehall then, and Washington after WW2. It was wonderful if you were there, and white and European/American, not so much if you were a Colonial. Today, we're all the colonial, and we're getting screwed by policies nobody understands but that Washington enforces out of habit, for the Oil Companies.

    It Can Happen Here.

We will be looking for the same scapegoats once it all falls apart.

  • I wonder how many calories one can burn dancing this way! :D

This would be an exciting way to lose weight for most lazy Americans. Cut back on fast foods and bring back the Charleston!

  • Marvelous age indeed;flappers were hot and you could smoke and drink with impunity.

  • it would be funny as hell to see some gangsta ass niggas doing the charlston and smiling jiving and shucking and btw im black but that shit would crack me up

  • @DarylMelton912 The charleston, as well as many other dances, was a national craze at the time. I'm sure all people, white and black alike, did these dances, man.

  • Holy shitake, how did they do that? I know the film is always a lil sped up but still. Almost broke my ankle trying.

  • the great gatsby

  • you cant say this video didnt make you smile

  • Great Collection! Thanks!

  • hahahhaa : )

  • Now I know where the Velvet Underground's White Light/White Heat came from.

  • in the beginning whos the guy that said "what a marvoulous age we live in?"

  • in the beginning whos the guy that said "what a marvoulous age we live in?"

  • Lord Gorell

  • @Aaron1912 thannks.

  • In my class i am reporting on the 1920's, and we get extra credit for visual media, so i think i will do the "dance" at 1:17, i mean i'll already be in the dress, why not dance?~ XD

  • Hey, I think your video is wonderful, I want to use it on a project that is competeting in a National competition. If you still have them, I would love to have your sources and the rights to the video, That would be of huge help, Thanks!

  • ok how would anyone dislike this video, much less 16 people???

  • your videos are AMAZING. I have to make a 15 minute long documentary on the 1920s flappers and the 'revolution' of morals, and i was wondering where do you get all of this great footage and music?

  • Comment removed

  • Seriously, Aaron1912 has THE BEST videos, hands down!!! Thanks again!

  • Thanks for sharing this video clip. My 13 year old is doing a project at school about the 1920 decade and this was a perfect way to visualize the dance and fashion of the era. We very much enjoy it. Good Job!

  • Haha you see some of these dance moves in the old Tom & Jerry cartoon episodes

  • Thanks so much, that's great!

  • Hi Aaron, your videos are amazing. I wonder if there is any way I could get hold of your dance mix here though...I have some of the same songs but in much slower versions which aren't as good to dance to (and I am hoping to have some of this stuff for my wedding party next week). Or could you send me the exact details of the versions, especially of 'hot feet' and 'charleston' or where you got them from? I don't know if this is allowed but it would be so helpful!! Thanks so much...

  • Thanks. Hot Feet was played by Paul Specht and his Orchestra and the Charleston was played by Spike Jones.

  • OMG their shuffling! LOL

  • Comment removed

  • At 0:47 best moves ever beat that dancing with the stars...

  • I don't understand how anyone could dislike this

  • Can I use this video in my digital portfolio? I will obviously pay homage to its creator.

  • RAGTIME

  • fuck i wish i was born in the 20's -_-

then they had the good dancing..now they have all that grinding shit :|

  • @bananaPHONE1701 You could of died in the war though.

  • I know that the first song is the Charleston, but I just want to ask, what version is it or who was the composer, because I have searched for a bit and there are hundreds of alternative charleston dances which don't match that one?

    Thanks

  • I love your 20s videos. Do you know where I can find the audio of Hot Feet, this version, or at the very least same song?

  • @inverseactuality

Ive been trying to find it also, emailed folk on here but no reply yeh :/

  • I was born in the 90's but feel like I'm in the 20's because of all the stories my Great Uncles/Aunts tell me. Even my Great Great Aunt (98 years old). My Great Great Aunt was a 16 in the midlle end of The Charlestons main era.

  • This is really cool! What are the names of the dances they're doing through the video?

  • Comment removed

  • The First Song Charleston is by Spike Jones & His City Slickers in the 1950s

  • @Skezbow Holy crap I thought the part used in this video was the beginning of the song, no wonder I couldn't find it anywhere despite running into it 10 times or so. Thanks!

  • I love this!!!

  • I looked everywhere for that specific version of Charleston you used and can't find it

  • Hey do you know where I can find and download that first song?

  • can anyone identify what film those dancing white silhouettes near the end are from?
