  • i was very lucky to have seen naomi sims perform . i saw her numerous times at the kon tiki in Galveston,tx. i also saw her in her weekly show at heaven nite club and every Sunday nite at JRs Houston. A true Texas Star. We love and miss you Naomi

  • I met Naomi in Miami Beach judging the Miss Florida Pageant in '83 (she was a judge and entertainer along with Sylvester). We hit it off and I visited Newman in Houston later that year and we went to the Diana Ross concert at the Summit. She came to New Orleans and was the Grand Marshall of the first New Orleans Pride Parade in '84. Good times! Thanks for sharing this.

  • does anyone know where i can get the vhs or dvd of this pageant?

  • Naomi was crowned in 1984, in Dallas and gave up the crown, in 1985, in Indianapolis!

  • I have a question: Is this the 1985 pageant cuz that's the year she won... She is taking tips...???

  • She was the first female impersonator I saw perform, at Heaven on Thursday nights with Donna Day

  • Oh the old Copa days in Houston. How I miss seeing the Fab 4 every Sunday night.

  • I don't like how she took the name of the supermodel Naomi Sims!

  • Naomi Sims' real name is Neuman Braud (born in Saint Martinville, LA, but lived and attended college in Lafayette, LA). He majored in dance and theatre. I remember seeing him perform Smarty Pants in a blonde wig. He also sang Killing Me Softly acapella. What an artist and illusionist.

  • Such a sweet person and a wonderful entertainer. Naomi (Neuman) was from my hometown in Lafayette, LA and attended USL with a major in theatre and dance. He will always be the best femail entertainer of all time. RIP (Samola).

  • the best ever...hands down.

  • I remember seeing her perform many times hanging out in the drag scene in San Antonio back in the 80s.....she was wonderfull!

  • I had the pleasure of working with Naomi for some time in Houston, at "JR's Bar & Grill", where have been DJing since 1984. She is still remembered often. What a great talent!

  • My school project for Black History is on Naomi Sims.

  • you have quite a daunting task. I knew Naomi and she was quite a presence. Good luck with it, I know you'll do well and I know somewhere she'll be burstin' with pride!

  • I have Naomi on a video tape performing at the Noo Zoo in San Antonio a few months before she passed away. She was pure talent! Gosh, everyone on that tape has passed: Amazing Grace, Denise Fairchild, Nina Monroe, and a few contestants.

  • It would be great if you could post them. watching her really takes me back. she was a flawless performer. one of the things that allways got me about her was her memory. she remembered everyone she ever met.

  • The first song Ms. Naomi does is "Three Steps From True Love" by Margaret Reynolds. RIP Ms. Naomi - you were one of a kind!

  • Naomi was fabulous!!! In answer to alexisl's question...The name of the second song in the mix is "Dangerous" by Natalie Cole. I have a fabulous mix of Dangerous into Pink Cadillac into Jump start my heart and back into Pink Cadillac Made by a dj way back in 1987. all songs that Naomi was known for!

  • I am not sure but I believe Naomi's real name was Neuman Braund

  • I went to Northeast in Monroe....God bless you Naomi.

  • Does anyone know the name of the second song in Naomi's mix?

  • i remember her from Pharoahs... she letchyall HAVE it

  • I had to sneak into the COPA the first time I went at the age of 16 and she was performing that night. I fell in love with her and saw every performance I could until the day she died. I still miss her..

  • Does anyone remember her at the COPA in Houston, Texas- very early 80's? Every Sunday night...she was the first drag personality I ever saw!! LOL!

  • RIP Naomi Sims-

  • I am truly a blessed person for knowing Naomi and even more blessed to have been there that night and weekend!

  • Love Me some Naomi

She was such a great person.

  • I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate this incredible piece of true entertainment is being shared with our community. I was in the audience that night and she was one of my very best friends. The tears of joy are streaming down my face as all the wonderful memories have been rekindled. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and my God reward you greatly for sharing this wonderful memory, especially for those who will always love her and miss her greatly.

    Always, Blaze Starr, MGA 1987

  • I've looked for your talent competition...is it on? Or anything from Dallas the year you won? call me...Fufu

  • We loved & still love you too, Blaze! You, Naomi & Cherry have no idea of the legacy & impact on the activity you had!

    *Muah!*

  • I knew it was spelled Sims, knowing that i'm knowledged on the America System, i was just going by how the person who put this video up spelled it! By the way i have tried to look it up as Sims & could'nt find, but found it under Simms. Noami did set a trend & that is the art of female impersonation & not just putting on a wig & heels because anyone can do that! You have to have the talent & the drive to go with it.

  • Amazing performer. This is the original trend setter.

  • BTW, Naomi spelled her named Naomi Sims, with just one m in her last name. It might make it easier for people to find doing a search on her name.

  • Thank you sweetheart, I wasn't sure!

    Much love, LaNora

  • I too was in the audience that night with Blaze Starr...(backup dancer for Blaze)Naomi was beautiful inside and out. Fufu

  • Does anyone know the first song that she does in this clip? I've been searching ever since I first saw this...

  • The song is Three Steps From True Love by Margaret Reynolds With Girlfriends. A real hard-to-find song.

  • Naomi Sims was remarkable. It is so hard for the images to convey what a talent and a beauty she was. I wish there was more out there that chronicled her career. I miss her so much.

  • Oh, & thank you for putting this footage up & if there is anymore footage of the great Naomi Simms please put more up, i'm sure the rest of the community would love to see them as well as myself!

  • I just can't stop watching this performance of the great Miss Gay Everything! She inspires the illusion of Dominique DeLorean to be the best @ all she does in the art of female illusion & what a role model Naomi is to me.

  • OMG! I finally get to see who everyone says that i resemble! I think that she was fabulous & beautiful!
