It is just a preference, When teaching Open Water I brief students to try different inhalation exhalation methods in the mask breathing exercises. In the swim they use whichever breathing method they prefer.
question: I see you have the note to exhale through the nose. I thought it was suggested to inhale and exhale through the mouth. They don't clearly show this on the PADI video and was wondering if that's just your preference of if it is an actual standard? thanks

One important point is to take off the mask while you are exhaling NOT inhaling, you may got some water into your nose, I know it by experience
