these ideas are resurgent, amid mass opposition to government austerity measures is a limited but growing opposition to bourgeois culture in general. more and more I see political graffiti over adverts, at bus stops and billboards. One I saw a couple of days ago was "apathy is violence" over an advert for Levi's jeans.
My favorite graffiti in my city, which I too saw recently, was "FIRE TO THE PRISONS!" at the roof of an abandoned factory with the circle-A behind it.
i find the situationists interesting as i do surrealists and the dadaists, the futurists etc.. why does he wear those awful round glasses. i do hate the motion that suggests those who read such theories are obliged to have certain appearance restrictions. when i visit philosophy dep., i question why? why wear that! lols i am product of capitalism.
He wears the glasses because he's a pretentious little snit. What I want to know is why the makers of the documentary couldn't find a more knowledgeable, insightful "expert" to interview. Use of this feller is a serious mistake.
hahaha your strong stand is amusing! however i have come to a conclusion; most of those involved in the so called unorthodox ideologies have a certain tendency of being pretentious! beside this was intended for popular media i presume and i can see how he serves the purpose, i don't think they were looking for zizak like intellectuals to interview :) lol i think of him as of a higher intelligence Paris Hilton! he thinks he need to dress clever as paris does see he opposite befitting.
I don't think the situationists themselves were pretentious, however. In fact, I think the main reason I still think about them is I wish I could find a way to be politically involved and serious but with a sense of humor. The situationists at their best achieved this--admirable.
something like a semi-artistic movement. but the movement was very limited and small. I think it mainly comes from the interpretations of one man. his reactions and interpretations of one way he sees modern culture. apparently he had some followers.
After the revolution, beheadings.

Why does it say, "invalid arguments" at the top of the screen?

If the guy in glasses was to look back on this, he'd be extremely embarrassed.
yassymeeny 2 years ago
why? because you think he made a mistake? 2 out of the 3 guys in the video are wearing glasses, by the way. maybe you should be embarrassed too

A video documentary on Situationism is by its very nature anti-Situationist.

I 'm pretty sure he wears glasses because he has bad vision, he wears turtleneck sweaters because he's a pretentious little snit.

Does anyone know where I can obtain copies of Guy Debord's own films? (preferably subtitled).

well (The Society of the Spectacle) is on youtube too!

Uh. *Obviously* Godard had nothing to do with Debord. You should read "De la misère en milieu étudiant".
