@slitherlock tapping licks arent hard. Knowing the mode its in allows you to figure out the notes much faster.

for example, for c# major, the only notes you can use are : C#, D#, E#, F#, G#, A#, C, back to C#

@WutangClan4LiF3 Make sure your hammering your fingers down hard to get the full sound. It's all about starting slow, don't try and just get the basic feel of it and then play it really fast because you want to instantly see improvements or it'l take forever. That's what I used to do lol.

im good at tapping i just dont know how to tap in the correct key, so if a song is in F and i tap in Am its gonna sound like shit, someone comment me and help pls

If a song is in F and your playing over an F major chord then you should use an F major arpeggio (F, A, C) or its relative minor which is D and use a D minor arpeggio (D, F, A) thats if your wanting a major sound. if your wanting a minor sound you should use the F minor arpeggio (F, A flat, C).

buckethead has a much broader category of music in his library though. gilbert mostly sticks to rock and sub-genres of rock.

however, i agree with you that comparing guitarists is stupid in the first place; as if to "rank" them. i find it kind of narrow minded. the goal of all music lovers should be to broaden ones horizon, not hinder it's expansion with limited points of view.

I also tap with my ring-finger, because of the pick-problem. Some guitarist say that they feel they have more control using their index-finger, but IMO its just a matter of using the middle-finger from the beginning, so you get used to it (not dissing PG here!). But yeah, his fingers (specially the pinky) are very long, check out Technical Difficulties, there is a mean stretch in the solo! Petrucci shows some insane stretches in "Rock Disciplin" too :P
