There's maybe a case for decriminalising the possession of small amounts of cannabis for personal use. There's no doubt plenty of people who purchase a bit of weed for the weekend from legally earned money, and who use it recreationally without ever harming themselves or others. The rest, particularly heroin and other Class A narcotics should remain illegal. This would free police resources to focus their priorites towards dealing with more serious drugs, not to mention potential tax revenues.
@paulph12002 cali is setting president in laws already by being the first to legalize for meds, now when the 2012 elections come back around it has very high potential to pass as legal statewide. All other states are using Cali as a model to see what laws work and the ones that are fucked up and get the city into lawsuits for improperly prosecuting a person and violet their state rights. Problem with legalising: if it was legal, the corporations would get in on it - we'd then get very poor quality, highly expensive weed that would be more health-damaging. Why do I say this - just look at the legal drugs produced by corporations (gigarettes, alcohol) - I'd be happier if they'd leave things as they are and keep big business the hell out of it. I for one would stop smoking weed if I had to buy it from BAT and paid tax to be used in fighting wars - call me a hippy if you want!

@nowthatsinteresting1 There is a huge barrier to entry when setting up a medical marijuana facility in California, besides the actual product, the lease or purchase of the facility, and the employees it's approx $20,000 the local government charges for "processing" fees, documents, red tape and more red tape. In essence, the local government is getting theirs before & after & it's STILL booming. The doctors get their $ form patience (with a yearly renewal) and everyone is happy :)

No, but my girlfriends father has, he smoked a lot of it when he was younger, and even if you dont smoke every day, remember that it takes 16 marijuana cigarettes from the 60:s to get the same effect of one cigarette today. He has severe memory losses and sometimes forgets why he left his room. It is quite tragic, and all I want is for no man to suffer such a dishonorable life.

@meanweed84 well the reason that they do not legalise it globally is because cannabis, more importantly hemp can replace a multitude of industries that the people in power are currently making money off. For instance the oil industries and over here energy companies which burn natural gas could all be replaced by ethanol made from hemp. Others include paper, textiles and a large portion of the pharmaceutical industry. Money makes the world spin and politicians aren't making money off cannabis.

Problem with legalising: if it was legal, the corporations would get in on it - we'd then get very poor quality, highly expensive weed that would be more health-damaging. Why do I say this - just look at the legal drugs produced by corporations (gigarettes, alcohol) - I'd be happier if they'd leave things as they are and keep big business the hell out of it. I for one would stop smoking weed if I had to buy it from BAT and paid tax to be used in fighting wars - call me a hippy if you want!

@nowthatsinteresting1 There is a huge barrier to entry when setting up a medical marijuana facility in California, besides the actual product, the lease or purchase of the facility, and the employees it's approx $20,000 the local government charges for "processing" fees, documents, red tape and more red tape. In essence, the local government is getting theirs before & after & it's STILL booming. The doctors get their $ form patience (with a yearly renewal) and everyone is happy :)

A lot of it was just ultra massive growth. And the marijuana tax act was the first major bill to have overbearing influence by corporations. Ultimately, there are many factors. And yeah, bush was terrible, but I think we have never had a good president.

No, but my girlfriends father has, he smoked a lot of it when he was younger, and even if you dont smoke every day, remember that it takes 16 marijuana cigarettes from the 60:s to get the same effect of one cigarette today. @SamuelThomasRanger AND yes i enjoy smoking marijuana,its relieves my stress and im can feel good without driving for more beer and killing someone or stumbling down the block pissing in the street.I put my family first but i can easily afford it after taking care of them.People smoke cigarettes because they like it then it turns into an addiction and they cant quit, it stinks horribly,takes a long time to get the smell out,turns fingers teeth yellow,and it kills. Marijuana does none of those.

Well, I have checked it out now and it says that if you smoke for a long time you have a much greater risk for getting lung diseases, according to wikipedia. However, I still stand by my claim, smoking, pretty much anything is a dirty deed. Yet, I would like it if your responses werent so hostile since I am merely expressing my personal thoughts, and you can hardly compare your work related success since I am only 17.

Please try and understand that the man I know stopped smoking fairly early (about your age) and even now suffer the effects, reduced brain cells, loss of memory and coordination. Please try and understand that the only thing I am aiming for is that you as a healty father and husband see that when you are about 60, you will put them through a lot. Trust me, I know.

@meanweed84 well the reason that they do not legalise it globally is because cannabis, more importantly hemp can replace a multitude of industries that the people in power are currently making money off. For instance the oil industries and over here energy companies which burn natural gas could all be replaced by ethanol made from hemp. Others include paper, textiles and a large portion of the pharmaceutical industry. Money makes the world spin and politicians aren't making money off cannabis.
