  • "You have to vote for the Health Care Reform Bill,

so you will know what's in it"

    Source: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

  • @bobbytiger Well it ain't like she really knows whats in it anyways.

  • Sorry, America. Can't hear you over the awesomeness of my "socialist" european health care plan.

  • I believe Obama also signed the bill. He is the only person with a vote in the executive branch. It was his signature that enacted it. Obama didn't read it either. He said so on air. His cabinet members didn't read it either. That said so on air as well.

  • The BIGGEST, most sweeping government takeover of the MOST important industry... The people are 80% against it. Make their voices heard loud and clear that they oppose it. They voted OUT as many as they had the means to do.... The end result? Obama and the majority of Congress push it through anyways? What the HELL happened to the USA?? Yet, "The Young Turks" are only concerned that an opponent of this bill, who DID NOT vote for it, (thus clearly representing his constituents) didn't "read it"?

  • It is not just the words "Did you read the bill?" that matter... It is "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU ARE SIGNING?" that does. NONE of them had any idea what they signed. Nobody could have read it. Nobody's "staff" read it for them. It was not even posible for anyone to read the government takeover H.C. Bill. They were not even allowed acess to it until right before the vote. They were TOLD to sign it, and they did! Period. Now, they are ALL going to be voted out! That is if O lets us vote!

  • How pathetic this attempted manipulation of the facts is! Trying to hitchhike the anger at the entire group of dems who voted YES and never read a single word! ps; go back to Turkey... turkeys!

  • N.A.S.A. lies, the central govt. in lies. They are in the process of de-industrializing the United States and rescinding the Constitution. The treasury has been raided of 25 trillion dollars. The Kenyan-born Manchurian candidate Barry Soetoro is a product of nonagenarian David Rockefeller's Council on Foreign Relations. F.E.M.A. is building concentration camps now as the army stockpiles guillotines. The world's elitists are implementing their dehumanizing agenda to enslave & slaughter humanity.

  • @TheVicAndHelenShow YES THE SOCIALIST IS OUT TO KILL US, THE FLUORIDE INT HE WATER WILL POISON ALL THE COUNTRY. Get out Alex Jones and Ron Paul are our saviors, remember the CFR AND THE UN ARE GOING TO FORCIBLY INNOCULATE AND KILL US ALL! Jesus christ man you Jonesians are funny pieces of shit, and you would be really great comedians.

  • "The Trilateralist Commission is international...(and)...is intended to be the vehicle for multinational consolidation of the commercial and banking interests by seizing control of the political government of the United States. The Trilateralist Commission represents a skillful, coordinated effort to seize control and consolidate the four centers of power - political, monetary, intellectual, and ecclesiastical." — Barry Goldwater (1909-1998), U.S. Senator

  • ICONS OF TELEPLAY—Fear not my tattooed countryman regarding lackey Christ' Hitchens' demise as the U.S. is teeming with native- and foreign-born fascists. There are plenty at-the-ready to fill the void when he croaks.

  • You're pathetic. Young Turks are so in the bag. 2600+ pages, & u attack McConnell for not reading the whole bill, which Dems spent months writing behind closed doors, & then stuffed down our throats. At least he DID NOT vote for a bill he didn't read. The Dems PASSED a bill that NONE of them read. That should be a crime. What a surprise Dems attacked Arizona for a law that Dems didn't read, which is lighter than the Fed law upheld unanimously by the Supreme Court in 2005 (FOX M. Kelly). U Frauds

  • I think if a person votes on a bill, they should read enough of it to know whether they can support or oppose it. It makes sense that we can delegate power to people who we think are more expert than us. But if this is the case, why would we choose to delegate our power to people like Congresspersons who lack expertise. What we need is delegative democracy, a way for us to directly loan our votes to actual policy experts. It's weird that we give so much power to these uninformed politicians.

  • The Arizona immigration bill was only 10 pages long. I wonder what the Dems excuse was for not reading that one.

  • This guy is a jerk. The problem is that NONE of the elected officials read the GD bills. They don't serve the people. However, the Democrats made it the law of the land without reading it. Think about it, one side votes against making a bill become a law without reading it because it is too long, too complicated and too incomprehensible. The other party makes a bill a law without reading it in spite of the fact that it is too long, too complicated and too incomprehensible.

  • Is this guy Nobama's brother, can you speak two words without the teleprompter? Good God :-(

  • Thank you Mitch McConnell for admit to not having read that bill. Oh by the way, I don't care if the voting deligates read the bill or not. My true concern is that they "understand or comprehend" th fullness of said bill. Not just he bill, but at the hidden points in it. Have you read the bill is a dumb question. I read sci-fi books when I was young. I understood about two of them. Huge difference my friends

  • They Should pass a Law that Makes them read every last letter, before they can pass any law................wow thats a thought!

  • State police cars in Florida sport a U.S. flag decal, rather than a Florida state flag decal. This tells you where their allegiances lie.

  • State police cars in Florida sport a U.S. flag decal, rather than a Florida state flag decal. This tells you where their allegiances lie.

  • Why would you sign your name to a contract that you haven't read?

  • This is retarded, no one read that bill, esp not the polsi bish

  • everyone knows that bills in congress are too long and the congress people just get the cliffnotes version

  • Cenk!

THE DEMOCRATS DIDN'T READ THE DAMN BILL EITHER!!

  • shut up stupid, do you not grasp the point of this piece? they have staffers that confer in meetings. kind of like a lawyers office.

like the page that mark foley wanted to bend over a desk. or the staffers wife that john ensign was giving the lumber to. or monica lewinski.

have you watched any debates in the house or senate? who do think those people behind them are?

    people with really good seats?

p.s. the capital letter shouting? makes you look even dumber.

  • I WASN'T TALKING TO YOU, STUPID!!!

  • stop yelling stupid.

  • Comment removed

  • Its your GOD DAMN Job REad the Damn Bill or Go HOme!!!!!!!!!!! EVEryone nEEDS TO READ THE DAMN BILL!!!! jESUS!!!!! nO MATTER HOW LONG IT IS read THE GOD DAMN BILL!!!! gOD FORBID YOU GET CHALLENGED eND THE F@#$ING FED!!!!!

  • @Akillesblood read about 8,000 pages (not an exaggeration) in the little time they had????? i dont think so. it's the job of their aides to do that and gives them the short version. No dem. or GOP member of congress does...well, i shouldn't say no one, but you get the point.

  • Hey moron, before you get all huffy and indignit, I'm talking about the same bill the person in this video is talking about. I'm talking about the same bill that passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The same bill Obama and all his nut job extremists wanted to pass before the August recess. The same bill that the nut job extremests would have passed had it not been for the grassroots efforts of millions accross the country.

  • Who is the bigger retard, somebody who doesn't want to vote to spend 10 trillion dollars on a bill that they haven't read, or somebody that wants to spend that same amount on a bill they haven't read. If your going to be lazy, at least don't spend my money. By the way, there is a bill that has been voted on by a house committee, that would be the bill most are talking about, seeing as how it has been voted on retard.

  • No one reads a thousand page bill They do get a synopsis of same. So chances are pretty good, everyone on the hill knows what those bills do.

  • They don't read the bill, retard, they have aides to do that. They never read the bills. Way to drag the conversation down to 3rd grade simplicity.

  • You are so right dumbass. Asking somebody that I am paying to read a bill prior to spending Trillions of dollars on it would be asking way too much. What was I thinking. By the way, why don't their aides run for re-election. You say this like it should be accepted practice. Can your brain even wrap your simplistic little mind around how much a trillion dollars is? What the hell though, it's somebody elses money right?

  • How many professors have research assistants? How many CEOs have vice presidents? How many coaches have assistant coaches?

  • I promise you that any CEO making a decision on whether or not his company is going to spend Billions (or in this case Trillions) of dollars, is not going to rely upon somebody else. We are not talking about a bill providing an extra $20,000 to their beloved Acorn, we are talking about a bill that will spend Trillions of the American people's money. Some Things are too big and important to leave to an aid, VP, or assistant coach.

  • Please cite the bill that will spend trillions of dollars on health care reform. Please show me the bill. Any bill that passes before congress gets entered into the library of congress, and they have a website free to the public.

I've looked at this website, and haven't seen the bill, so where are you getting this information? Oh, from people who made it up... Right....

  • So Many TWISTED Minds on YouTube these dats..."LET EVERY MAN BE A LIAR...AND LET GOD BE TRUE" I trust in him...He will NEVER fail! :)

  • wow, Jewtube wont let my posts stay up

  • oh but they let that one stay up, figures.

  • Republicans only care about the rich in this country.

    That is their problem.

As for the Dems, their focus has been on the poor and the old.

Old people need to take better care of themselves and not expect going to a hospital as a solution.

Watch this movie 'Food Inc' for the truth.

  • The difference is that McConnell is not advocating the passage of the bill into LAW. The burden of proof is on those who want to pass it.

If one signs a binding contract, they should read it.

If you're NOT signing a contract, you don't need to read it.

The Republicons can't stop this bill anyway. It's the dems game to lose.

  • No, the difference is that McConnell stands to make millions from the health insurance corporations whose profits suffer if reform actually passes.

  • Do you believe that money is the reason for opposition to the healthcare bill?

  • Money is the reason for EVERYTHING.

  • Also, a large portion of those 'millions' equal jobs for the 95% of 'working Americans' that are supposed to be getting a tax cut. How will hospital workers (another part of that 95%) get paid and get their tax cut?

  • So you're admitting that the government want its subjects in their healthcare for money reasons. If that much money is cut from the economy, how will 47,000,000 new patients get medical treatment?

  • Yes. What other reason is there?

  • Well, one other reason is opposition of 'public' ownership of peoples private medical records and treatment decisions. People don't want their healthcare to become a gov budget line item.

Why would McConnell lose millions on a 'public option'? People can supposedly keep their private coverage.

  • Yes, but health insurance is a profitable scam and if insurance companies face competition from a provider that puts care before profit, than they will be forced to actually provide a service. They know they won't be able to rape the people's wallets anymore, so they lobby to keep it down. Besides, noone's talking about a National Health Service, its an insurance provider.

  • 47,000,000 new patients will be added to the existing system of hospitals. The insurance companies will no longer make profits on which they will be taxed. Do you think the care will be better with that added pressure on the system. How will it be funded if profits are cut from such a large portion of the economy? The insurance companies have acted with obscene greed but it's been the peoples choice to demand their own care from others.

  • They couldnt have thought of that before they wrote the bill no way, no govt is that smart! I dont trustem!

  • What colour's the sky in your world?

  • You're absolutely right, we should fix healthcare by doing not one thing about it. I'm GLAD my premiums have shot up so much recently.

  • Republicons = The Decievers

  • lol yea, and Democrats = the "so, you are trying to kill me and my family? well uuh geez. hmmm. i look forward to continued partnership with your party" sayers

  • Republicons = Conning our Republic again.

  • Republicans: "BLAAAAAGGGG SOCIALOSM EVIL!!! GAAAAAH JESEUS FREEDOM AMERICA!"

Democrats: "ummm ok, interesting. doesnt make sense, but umm. maybe we can come to a comprimise between common sense and your idea?"

  • Comment removed

  • so why dont you want heath care reform? if you hate government run healthcare. why not get red of medicare. (been working great). getting rid of that will be MUCH more likley to kill grandma than anything else.

  • Whats killing grandma is the private insurance companies that decide if they will pay for your procedures. Those are the "death panels"

  • yes, thats what ive been saying for a while. getting rid of medicare (government run) would make things even worse for grandma. and the thing is NO ONE wants to get rid of it. not even most republicans.

  • Republicans just do not want a strong Government health care program competing with the Private companies that lobby them with millions to fund their future campaigns.

Its all about big business and Americans get screwed in the middle.

  • i agree completely

  • But honestly if government run health care is what hes scared off then he has no reason to be afraid because no one is prosing that. The truth is that he has been convinced to be scared of something he doesn't understand by the right wing propoganda.

  • Trust me. There is nothing that Ron Paul doesn't understand that any of those other dumb shits in Washington do understand, republicans included. And anyone who thinks that Ron Paul doesn't understand economics, obviously has NO CLUE about economics.

  • Except for the fact that historically (liberal) demand side economics has proven to be more effective then (conservative) supply side. And even if it worked as well most republicans today don't follow it because they only care about making the rich richer by taking from everyone else. Conservatives have been whining about class warfare and redistribution of income, well guess what? That has been happening for 20 years only you weren't complaining because you benefited from it.

  • keep speaking the truth, man!

    well said

  • Australian here, fleetingly listen in/read up on American politics and always thought Ron Paul seemed to genuinely know what he was talking about. Until I found out that he did not believe that there was anything to do with the separation of church and state in your constitution.

  • Republican's are pieces of shit.

Democrats better do the right thing.

  • As a much lower level Federal employee, I spent many (non-paying) nights and weekends studying contracts, Federal specs, etc. in preparation for meetings. Unlike this phony, I had no paid staff to do my homework. This lazy, whining gasbag should be voted out ASAP.

  • Should the guy have to read 1300 pages of highfalutin legalistic rambling? No. Should he still at least peruse important sections that a staff person has higlighted for him? Yes. It's not like these bills are Harry Potter books people. How many of you have used Spark Notes for highschool or college English classes?

  • Restore the Republic!!! Ron Paul 2012!!!

  • brad pitt 2012

  • Ha that is so ironic being that you said "Restore the Republic" when Ron Paul is from Texas which talked about secceding. I love right wingers.

  • Ron Paul was and is a scam artist Republican. All he says is full of shit and he doesn't mean any of it. Easily seen by viewing his long record.

  • Ron Paul has never talked about seceding, only Rick Perry was talking about that and he didn't even really mean it.

  • If our Republic is being destroyed by thieving socialists, why wouldn't you consider seceding? And do all people from Texas support seceding just because they are from Texas. What grade are you in?

  • lol

  • Oh my yes, those damn socialists are always trying to destroy America. Beg your pardon, but would you mind pointing them out? Oh whats that? You can't? Because they dont exist you say? That is strange. And did I say all texans wanted to seccede? No, because there are some people in texas who arent stupid. However, Texas was one of the states that threatened to which is funny when you campaing for him on a "restore the republic" slogan

  • "would you mind pointing them out?"

R u asking me 2 point out the socialists that hold office in our federal govt? Do u seriously think that none exist?

Oh, and just because Ron Paul is a congressman from the same state in which another person suggested succeeding doesn't mean Ron Paul cannot campaign on a "Restore the Republic" theme.

Wisconsin is 1 of the states that added an amendment 2 their constitution 2 ban gay marriage. Glad no pres candid8 from WI can campaign 4 gay marriage.

  • First off no there are no socialists. There are people that have been smeared as Socialists by the right wing, but lets face it that is about as credible as death panels.

And second I never said he couldn't, I just said it was ironic. If he wants to restore the republic more power to him, but first I think he needs to make a concerted effort to stop being obstructionist and help out the democrats who are reaching out to the republicans over and over again.

  • Socialism, communism, marxism are completely separate ideals. This country could benefit from a socialist mindset. The ring wing has smeared the word, associating it with fascism and evil. By the way, I`m a proud socialist.

  • "I`m a proud socialist."

    Funny. So was Hitler.

  • he had a mustache too! i think jesus was a socialist as well

  • "jesus was a socialist"

    LOL! Here we go again.

Socialism requires someone to forcibly take money from one person or group of people, without their permission, in order to give it to someone else. That is a sin. Jesus was without sin; thus we conclude, Jesus was not a socialist!

  • you really believe socialism is a sin? Deut. 15:7. If there is a poor man among you, one of your brothers, in any of the towns of the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand to your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks.

  • "you shall FREELY open your hand to him"

    This is not socialism.

  • SOCIALISTS SUCK!!!

  • Deut. 26:12. When you have finished paying the complete tithe of your increase in the third year, the year of tithing, then you shall give it to the Levite, to the stranger, to the orphan and the widow, that they may eat in your towns, and be satisfied.

Luke 3:11. And [John the Baptist] would answer and say to them, "Let the man with two tunics share with him who has none, and let him who has food do likewise.

It seems to me that you are a christian, would you like another?

  • "you shall give", " share with him who has none"

These speak nothing of a govt mandate, and I can do these things on my own free will by God's command and not the govt's! That is how God prefers it.

So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

    -2 Corinthians 9:7

  • no one is offering a government mandate, it's called a public option, let me capitalize it for you OPTION, so we can choose whichever one we please out of our own free will, right?

  • Nice stradegy. Reply to your own comments so that I will not be notified, in hopes that I won't respond.

    "OPTION"

So will I have the OPTION of whether or not to pay for it?

  • oh, you will surely be thumbed down on trotsky-tube for that one ! lol

  • Now you will be able to see how many socialists will watch this video, aside from all the other millions of other little socialists runnuing around out there. Anyone who is a socialist will thumbs down my "socialists suck" comment, then you wil know.

  • so are you saying you don't support the socialist programs here in America like law enforcement and military? so you think the government is forcibly taking money from you without your permission to fund the military? the tenants of national socialism has very little to do with money, it has more to do with property etc. I'm not a socialist, but i will defend it from idiocy and the fear that people have in it, jesus shared everything that he ever earned

  • The military is authorized 2 exist by the constitution & it is not socialistic. It is the enemy of big govt. It is funded through corporate income tax & could be funded through a flat tax pretty easily if we used it 2 "provide for the Common Defense" and not 4 nation building. Law enforcement & FD's r funded locally.

U guys need 2 get a new argument with Jesus. He most certainly did share everything that he earned, but he NEVER took from 1 to give 2 another, nor did he promote such a thing!

  • my point exactly, they are all funded through taxes which are forced upon you by our govt. to give to programs like law enforcement, military, roads, schools, etc.

  • law enforcement, military, roads, schools

still have to be funded by a constitutional means, whether it be through direct taxation or a private means.

The Federal government is granted no authority by the constitution to fund health care or education.

  • quick question for you, so should gay marriage be illegal?

  • Ask any congressman or senator and they will say the same thing: if they read every single bill in its entirety nothing would get done.

  • Well nothing gets done anyway so maybe they should stop taking all the month long breaks and read a little bit.

  • Thats why they have staff ... and precisely why those morons being bused around to town hall meetings screaming "read the bill" (which hasn't been written yet) are complete and utter clowns.

  • the only thing mitch mcconnell reads is the "Pay to:" line on his checks from the lobbyists

  • I heard a congressman saying: We can't read the bills they're 1300 pages. No, you can't read a bill like that while you're on your lunch break.

Maybe these idiots should start earning the money they get paid! Has anyone thought of THAT?

    Jeeezzzzuzzz

  • yes because it only takes 30 min to read 1300 pages

  • Where is your proof Turk? Can't find his comments anywhere. Actually, I think you're a miss info operative. Why do you have earphones in both ears?

Why didn't you post the link, or show video?

  • Are you kidding. It's all over the internet. Do a google search for :

GOP leader did not read healt care bill

i found it in upwards of twenty places

  • Your comment is besides the point, Cenk himself said it shouldn't be held against him, and he just wanted to show it's a stupid thing to be concerned about, if you want proof, google is your friend.

  • This might seem like a stupid question but why don't we make a law that no bill can be over x pages. It would become more difficult to sneak something in on the back of a worthy bill and it would make it far easier for the congressmen to read the entirety of a bill(not to mention a normal citizen)

  • Mitch! Making us look bad again.

  • hey turd i have a new contract for you just go ahead and sign it dont worry about reading it i have had my staff take a look and it looks like its really gonna benefit you, so yeah just go ahead and sign it real quick

  • You sound really ignorant, first the death panels I think your talking about is the end of life counseling for the elderly thats included not a death panel, who is the genocide against: means extermination of one group of people, Its riduculous you say he has a KKK administration( he's half black, his wife is black and so are his kids. Did you read the bill? LOL!

  • bush probably had other people read the bills to him

  • People don't know how to read a bill since they don't want to deal with the bill it seems.

  • More hypocritical bullshit from the right - a bottomless hole

  • Miscontrutions, lies, hate and fear mongering has been the GOP's platform for decades now.

Hypocrisy from the Grand Old Party is something many people have become accustomed to over the years as a result of that.

  • Republiecans want healthcare reform too.

  • Actually, they're the ones trying to kill it, they even said they could kill it, and that's when they pulled out the forbidden strategy playbook of fear to use people's fear to protest against the bill to kill it

  • Repub LIE cans. I fully agree.

  • Kind of like how no one read the Stimulus Bill?

  • If you are sick of all the bullshit and you want the straight facts regarding health care reform visit the comment section of my profile.

  • I dont know who edited this video but without an actual outtake of Mitch MacDufus answering the question have you read the healthcare bill it (this video) is useless. Lets not give the impression we are liars by edit. Not only have Republicans cornered the market on lying, I think they have a provision in their contracts that gives them exclusivity to lying and disinformation tactics; this video violates the Republican Union Labor clause to lying and disinformation copyright. Fix it.

  • So typical of the GOP. Not reading the bill or actually researching the facts. It wouldn't surprise me if these people were completely illiterate.

  • If the bills are too long, how about we write more concise legislature? Wtf is wrong with us? Why was I born into this shit political system?

  • So you want to compress everything the healthcare plan should and shouldn't cover, and how much they will cover, into two pages?

    Very bad thinking.

  • Making it concise does not mean simply removing things. It just means not wording everything so complicated. An example. Instead of the complicated system we use to determine income tax which resembles an apollo 13 flight checklist, why not just tax everyone at a flat percent of thier income. Lets say 15%. Everyone pays 15% of total income, thats it. Then have a small set of modifications as necessary.

  • A democrat admitted earlier that he didn't read a bill. He said how was he expected to read the bill its over 500 pages long! This was not reported however.

  • PostToastie is spreading lies that aren't even in the bill.

  • thats not even in the bill, you lying sack of shit! this coming from a conservative is to be expected. bold faced lies have been your mode of operation for the last 10 years.

  • 'member when no one read the goddamn patriot act? this country is nuts.

  • I went to the county fair 2 days in a row, And there was a Republican booth but nobody was tending it, Are the Repubs to embaressed to even sit at there own booth? They had a sign up for a chance to win a Glenn Beck book but there wasn't any sign up tabs in the box LMAO. Sucked because I wanted to ask them about there health care plan. But they are to ashamed to show there face in public,

  • So that's how the political debate goes in US? They don't read the bills they vote for? So what do they get paid for then? And please don't say these bills contain thousands of pages because that is not true. There is always a little ceremonial when the President of US is signing a bill, he delivers a speech, and then you always see him actually signing the bill, and I have never seen him signing a document that looks as big as a telephone book!

  • Does the Obama Administration or any party have the best of intensions for the American public? No. Both Republicans and Democrats are ruled by the financiers on Capital Hill: Lobbyists, Bankers, Pharmaceuticals, Capitalists, Insurance Companies etc. Good luck everyone. We are fucked people. Only change we have is in Presidents name and color.

  • God I'm represented by this dickhead... voted against him.... fuck christ

  • Just call them 'dollar' bills and senators will read them front to back, backwards and upside down, while riding a unicycle and juggling three balls and in Spanish too

  • It's not as hard as they'd have you believe it is to read. Just download it yourself.

And if an AP English class can read a book comparable in size inside of a week, these people who are PAID to keep up with this on behalf of their constituents can devote hours to it.

Didn't believe either side till I read it for myself. Official decision is that the Republican party are either fearmongering out of desperation, full of shit, or both.

  • Both

  • I agree with you. At the very least these guys need to put their staff to work reading the thing and providing citations from the bill itself to back up their silly claims. The bill may be dense and hard to read, but these things are always very well organized into sections and subsections for this exact purpose. So you can say things like "Chapter 1 Title 2 Article 4 on page ## seems to suggest that...blah blah blah".

  • For this precise reason I think they should be obligated to read each and every single bill, especially one as important as this one. It is very easy to take a clause out of context and use it to misinform the general public. It is also very easy for their staff to do the very same to the otherwise ignorant congressmen / congresswomen.

  • Shocker.

  • Its just sad that we had politicians that make tell people just trust them lies and the poor idiots that trust them go out talking all that nonsence. That why i always say pick up a book and inform yourselves on any isue thats corrently happening (this is mainly for the republican base.)

People dont trust on the biggest whores this world has to offer. Dont be soh naive.

  • The only reason why this story should have any importance is if he's been claiming to study it and get a better understanding of it, like a few of the democrats. Otherwise of course he's not going to read it, why would a Republican waste his time trying to understand something he's working so hard to destroy?

  • Because if you want to raise concerns about something, you have to be able to back the concerns up with something. the problem here is these clowns are making outlandish claims about the bill and all this "death panel" bullshit without actually making a decent case for it using ANY of the bill. You'd think at the very least that one of his staffers who had read the bill and presumably told him what was wrong with it would be able to provide him with a quotation from the bill or something.

  • Mitch McConnel is not very good anyhow

  • I did a word count in the bill. 217,000 words. That's like an average novel. Why the hell can't they read that?

Sure, they have other things to do. But I can read two books like that a week, after work. If this bill is so damn important, they should all devote a handful of working hours to it.

And sure, it's obtuse legal language. So what? They're LEGISLATORS. I mean for pete's sake, they WRITE the damn things.

So really, ""It's too long, nobody can read it!" Puh-lease.

  • yes! i love youtubers with common sense

  • Your argument would work if it were written in prose like a modern novel is. Unfortunately, it's incredibly dense and written in language that isn't intended to keep you interested, but rather to inform you about every procedure and nuance in a timely manner.

I'm not saying I disagree with your basic premise...ideally they would all read every bill, but I just don't think it's plausible.

  • People don't think norwonk.

But, the Repubs have been attacking the Dems for not reading it, the town hall shouters have been like "read the bill!", so it's nice to see someone slam McConnell for it

  • How can they vote for something they don't read?

  • Mindless stupidity?

  • lol

Welcome to American politics. You'd be suprised. They don't even give bills a cursory glance.

  • good question

  • Sorry to say this but it happens all the time, on both sides. Bills are long and congressmen and senators are busy. I'm not trying to excuse the way things are, but...I imagine it'd be next to impossible to keep up the schedule of a congressman and keep track of multiple lengthy bills at the same time.

  • Thats how the us got the patriot act and the war in iraq.

  • If they don't have time to read all those bills then maybe they should make less of them.

  • Or cut out all the superfluous mumbo-jumbo and make them shorter, simpler and easier to pass. Set the system up so that you can amend them with a House majority at a later date (maybe add a sunset clause, or something.)

Just get the goddamn ball rolling, at least.

  • I have read several. For both reasons.

  • Okay, now imagine you are a busy congressman who at any given moment is contemplating multiple bills in addition to one that's over 1,000 pages. Do you think you'd have time to sit and read every word?

  • I'll go you one better...I'm a busy single mom of an active three year old. I also work full time AND I'm starting back to school at the end of the month. And if it's importnat then yes I'd find time to sit and read every word.

  • Allright, at this point you've reduced yourself to nothing more than a rhetorical figure. I can say anything and you'll just shoot back "Well, I'm a busy mom with a kid and 8 dogs and I also run a restaurant and sing songs to poor kids and blah blah blah".

You're awesome, I get it. Has no bearing on my point though.

  • No not awesome abd not rhetorical just a busy person. BUT if it's important than I make time. Health care is important. If the people in office are going to vote on it th
