Da Vinci is one of the most admired historical figures of the day. This programme really shows his entire life story and all his works. It has been done well mostly becuase it has been directed by an Italian .
If this movie was done by Hollywood they would have highlighted only Da Vinci's so-called Homo sexual life as they did in the film-Alexander !

It's true, as someone commented, that some of the original has been cut for the dvd version, but it's still a magnificent homage to Master Leonardo.
When a person is brought up in a foster household, alot of times the new family do their best to remove any connection the child may have with it's birth parents. If that really was Leos mother, he only saw her as the woman who gave birth to him. The way the movie depicts how his fathers proud family completely dismissed her makes it easy as to why he just called her Catalina. (Bart Simpson calls his father "Homer" not daddy ect). I know, bad example.. lol
@25:10 the master should be proud not angry that his student has surpast him/her. It shows he has done his/her job of teaching the student to be the best and an example of the quality of students that are taught under them.

Fantastic acting. I have seen a lot of interpretations but the way Philippe Leroy plays Leonardo is unique. Unfortunately, in todays movies technology often replaces acting skills and personality: but every year I find another cinematic jewel, often randomly, like this one. This is how I imagine Leonardo: different, sensitive, gifted, fateful and intensive. Bought this movie on Amazon yesterday.
