An absolute classic! One of the best games and with one of the best soundtracks. If I were running Sega not only would I bring the Out Run franchise back in a big way but also give players the choice of a current style music while your driving along with the classic arcade style music simulated from Sega's old Z80, YM2151 & PCM based sound hardware.

Of all classic video game tunes, this one has aged the best. The original mix of it still sounds amazing.

It's so emotive and evocative and creates an almost overpowering sense of nostalgia for those of us who played it first time round at the arcades in the 80's.

AWESOME - Passing Breeze was my favourite soundtrack of the 3 choices! Outrun was a great racing arcade game - check out Super Monaco Grand Prix & Chase HQ from the late '80s... also great!!

I also loved the Chase HQ series. The sequel, Special Criminal Investigation was great & had a 3rd person view where you saw your car, which was a t-top (I think a Nissan 300ZX). The passenger cop in the car stands up & shoots at cars when you press the fire button. It's like a combat version of Out Run. The 3rd game in the Chase HQ series, Super Chase: Criminal Termination, was also great & was 1st person like the original.

My favorite Sega driving games are Out Run & Power Drift, which was the first ever kart racer. Too bad Sega never properly ported it though, even though I doubt any console's hardware could have done it justice since it used 3 MC68000 processors. It deserves to have more fame, even more than Nintendo's Mario Kart series IMO since it started the whole genre & was way ahead of its time. It had great scaling & rotation effects which were made better by playing in the cabinet.

This game was only difficult in the arcade cos most of the rip off arcade owners would disable the brakes deliberately so that people's game would end a lot sooner and they'd make more coin. I completed it a number of times on arcade machines which hadn't been tampered with :o) Quality music tho especially with those speakers in the chair behind your head in the arcade. Happy days.

It was hard but I found that going to route d or e was pretty easy. Plus once you play the game enough you memorize what turns to slow down on.
