  • @whitenailsnguitars thanks for watching the show, all sorts of how to on our YouTube channel here, we post new ones each week. eric - GardenFork

  • buen video colega

  • @dongasfiter gracias senor, eric.

  • I feel so foolish spending 5 years and 9000 hours to get my plumbing ticket. I could have just watched this a couple times...

  • @spitvace ;) some best friends are plumbers.

  • That's not hair from the shower, that's hair from your laundry (which is from your sweater, which is from your dog). Put a wire mesh filter on the end of your washer's discharge to catch the lint and hair before it clogs your pipes.

  • I want to buy the Rothenberger drain cleaner which is the best looking one (metal, german) I`ve found. It works on the same princip. as the one in that video. I`m concerned of it being only 8mm thick. I want to buy just one tool for life, do you think it would be enough to open all clogs in my household. I use a hand auger for most jobs but it just can`t clean the kitchen line well, only the plumber with his trailed machine cleans it for me.

    Please suggest if you can.

  • @Auser001 thanks for the question, its hard to say if it will solve all clogged drains. the cable is thin to be able to crank it without using a large motor. it has worked for me, but if you've got a big clog, you may have to call in the experts. i'm all for using licensed contractors when you need to. thanks, eric.

  • @erochow

    Thanks for the answer.

It also bothers me that I cannot change heads on that unit. I think I`ll order it cause it anyway holds the advantage of encasing the auger and so it saves time and the mess of cleaning and dragging it.

Is there a difference between `snake` and `auger`.

  • @Auser001 very good. i believe a snake is a roll of wire or 'tape' that may or may not rotate. an auger definitely is a rotating device. thx, eri c

  • I love the 70's background music

  • it sounds like you have a clog further down the drain line, so the washing machine water backs up into the tub. might be time to call a plumber. thx, eric.

  • i having problem with mi drain every time i use the washer machine the water came out of the bath tub in the bathroom what can i do replay please

  • @djarmandogomix

That`s because there`s a clog in the line which both the washing machine and tub use. It comes out of the tub because it`s lower. Unclog the drain to which they both connect.

  • Wow! Great video!

  • A few tips.... The cable cleaning system is a great way to clean hair and some other deposits. However it will NEVER completely clean grease and similar clogs. You need the right tool for the job. Regards to the bladder that commonman80 talked about. Cables are old school, but they are still the most common way to clean drains, the bladder will NEVER be able to do all what a cable machine is able to. The bladder has many problems along with it. This video shows an "ok" method for home owners

  • How long was your snake...how many feet

  • I used a wire fish tape fed through the pipes and out to the septic tank inspection opening. The fish tape penetrated through the clog but it was not fat enough to cause much tater flow. I then attached a garden hose to the fish tape at the septic tank opening and turned on the water. I then pulled the garden hose through the plumbing as it it were a cable being fed through a conduit Within a minute chunks of sediment came pouring out. The major clog was free.

  • I am aware of the dangers of mixing sewage with potable water. Before I started feeding the hose through the plumbing I turned it up all the way and there was plenty of water flow. after the clog was flushed away I left the water in while I pulled out the hose. I made sure to detach the hose before turning off the water. The way I did it made sure that there was no chance of back flow of non potable water into the water supply.

  • good video!

  • I see myself doing this at home, but I could never do it for a living. The customers would be in the other room listening to a pair of drills at full speed and a crazy guy in a tool belt screaming, "GET SOME!!! GET SOME!!! GET SOME!!!"

  • We did this and it worked! Great video.

  • We noticed that our drain line has clogged but unfortunately it is too late to run to Home Depot to get this. I hope it works because we do not have money to call rotorooter. Last time they were here we paid 300 for him to do this. He was here 5 mins max! UGH.

  • Thanks a lot!

  • I'm sorry guy, but that's OLD SCHOOL. To clean drains COMPLETELY, you need a Drain Cleaning Bladder. There made by a company called Cobra Products. You just connect it to a Garden Hose, Stick it into the Clogged pipe about SIX INCHES, turn it on, wait about 60 SECONDS, and the clog is pushed into the sewer under the street. No Mess, No Chemicals, and most Important, NO FREAKING PLUMMBER TO PAY $200 TOO.

    Nice try though.

  • I bought that exact same model of power snake over the weekend and it cleared out a drain pipe that was almost completely clogged, in a matter of minutes. I paid about $40 for it, which is definitely better than the $150 or so a plumber would charge to basically do the same thing.

It's a much messier job than this video shows, though!

  • I would just call Roto-Rooter if you asked me .. they have the things to do this .

  • i had gotten a snake but i couldnt get it in. Story of my life. i am sitting here covered in black goop. And i cant shower. :/

  • Every drain in my house in affected by my clog, so it has to be in the main sewer line, right? Can I get to the clog if I go through the sink, or do I have to actually go through the toilet drain? My snake is in the utility room sink right now, but I think I'm stuck where it meets the sewer pipe. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • hey everyone.... i seriously didnt believe that this auger snake thing would work. I had a manual snake that had to be turned by hand which wasn't very effective. I watch this video and saw that there are different ways to unclog your sinks/ pips. I went to the home depot and purchased a similar snake, which could be attached to any adjustible power drill. After that I went to work and got instant results. THIS TOOL REALLY DOES WORK (its $21.89 at the home depot

  • What to do if snake get traped in something ans does not get back.

  • Hey, no disrespect at all, just wanted to throw in a few tips. You shouldnt run it in reverse to auto return the line, if you catch a clog and it builds up enough itll bust the spring and be about as effective as shoving a broken slinky in next time. And another thing, dont leave too much slack between you and the drain, when it binded on you got lucky, if it were a commercial snake Ive heard of them breaking bones. Just be careful with the diy bud

  • amatör !

  • OR YOU COULD JUST POUR BLEACH DOWN IT THAT WILL UNCLOG PRACTICALLY ANYTHING

  • I would try to just pull it back instead of spinning it back because you could be letting some of the blockage off the hook. Thanks for the vid.

  • Hi, does anyone know what brand or model of auger/drain snake he is using? Most drill driven ones don't seem to have that nice auto feed feature. Thanks

  • @julianoNW its from Ridgid thx, eri c

  • What brand or model is he using, most dont seem to have the auto fee feature.

    Anyone know? thanks

  • Hey thanks. When ever I need to know about something "obvious" and I do a youtube search for info regarding it you guys pop up with great advice.

    Thanks again!

  • @vudumojo thx! i am the master of the obvious. though i don't always get it right...

  • great video thanks it really helped

  • very helpful, god I love youtube, don't know how people fixed and maintained their homes without it!

  • What do you do after you have already tried this?

  • thank you good video, i have problems with my washing machine the whole water is coming out, im gone try this.

  • Who did the plumbing at that house? There is no need for a washing machine stand pipe that big around.

  • Slow down your drill or it may bind up on you.

  • HEY MR. Handyman, U NEED A BETTER SNAKE, and use some latex gloves, THATS IS SICK, 4:10 u almost took out a EYE, Take the DRAIN HOSE OUT,

  • hi stfu u dong now wat your talking about im a plumber and what he was useing was jest find for the job

  • Good video, but I agree that you should use safety glasses and if you don't know what you are doing - call a professional.

  • LOL yes he did almost took out his Eye Thats almost that the X-miss Movie you'll Shoot your eye out KID !.. But in this Case You'll take your eye out Kid lol Rule # 1 Put some EYe protection ON and Gloves if your a 1 st timer at this lol and ""Don't Ask the DOg " To help You because he will just let you Get into some deep cleaning shit ...

  • Wow! good vid

  • looks like a tommy gun

  • dude use a sump pump in your basement

  • Great Video, a few tips,

Never use power tools (120 volts) around standing water or wet concrete. Cordless will be much safer, if you don't have the rooter or drill, sometimes a wet dry vac will suck the clog material out, Don't use the acid based drain cleaners as they will eat holes in your cast iron pipes, there are several non acid anti clog cleaners get on a "preventive" program. I like the Pipe Shield pipe cleaner, its the best and the gallon lasts for a year when mixed corectly.

  • great vid

  • thank you. gives me the courage I need to try it on my clogged shower drain. pls wear safety glasses next time!! :)

  • yes, safety glasses are important. thanks for bringing that up. eric.

  • Just a note to people. When you catch something with the snake, pull it out and put the stuff in the garbage. Do not push it further down the pipe.

  • good point. once i did end up shoving the clog farther down the pipe, but that was with a snake that did not rotate. thx for watching, eric

  • Comment removed

  • Great. i take that as a compliment. thanks for watching. eric.

  • Well he fixed it, and that's all that matters. BTW I really liked the part where the snake had a mind of its own.

  • You can buy some bacteria mix that once a month you pour in your drain. The bacturia eats your garbage. I have NEVER had to clean out my pluming since I used it.

  • Whats the name of that stuff-heard about it.?

  • I had a plug I could not reach with the snake I own, so I disconnected the line and plumed it to shop air out of my air compressor, shoved 120psi through the line for a few seconds, worked great!

  • hey you've given me a good idea. i already try using snakes (two kinds of them), i already used some of those products that are supposed to unclog the pipes but, nothing works. I am in the roofing trade so, i'll use the compressor and see what happens next, thanks budy.
