    Houston, We Have A Problem!

  • This is the Steve Eves Saturn 5 launch world record for amateur rocket !

  • 8, 7, 5... 6-5 =P Nice launch though

  • How high?

  • fail count down ?:S

  • That was incredible!!! The countdown was even better heehee, but seriously that was a well made model and launch of a Saturn V rocket done from scratch. I would have had trouble remembering my own name let alone a countdown at that very moment till launch! Well done on a successful launch sir :)

  • so this isn't the world largest model rocket. must be close.

  • Now that was a good, clean launch -especially considering the height of that model

  • Now that was a good, clean launch -especially considering the height of that model

  • How much ALL this...engines, rocket, launch pad...i want it!!!!

  • Beautiful! Fantastic!

  • Where can you buy this 17' model rocket?

  • This rocket can not be bought as a kit. It was scratch built. The motor itself was probably $700 or more. I believe it was an N2000 white lightning motor, which requires a certification of Level 3 by NAR or Tripoli.

  • There are 5 motors in this rocket. 1 - M1850 and 4 - L777's which puts it just under an O motor. It has flown 3 times now. The motors have a list price of about $1100.00

  • Ah, thank you for clearing that up. Do you happen to know what the diameter of it was?

  • Yes, I built it. 16" at the base capsule is 6". It weighs in at 195 lb loaded.

  • Oh! That explains how you knew so much about the motors used. Very nice build, I have always loved the Saturn V.

  • dude imagine the size of the wadding for these things lol

  • Rockets of this size do not require wadding. Most you ripstop nylon flame proof parachutes.

  • Troutfink, that's what happens when testosterone flows!

  • 10,9,8,7,5,6,5,4,3,2,1.....these guys built a rocket?

  • wow-thats-amazing

  • I saw the Apollo's 8 - 11 being launched from the Cape as a kid. As far as our vantage point was, the 7.5 millions pounds of thrust they generated made the ground vibrate. A"sweet" rumble when it the Pad

  • Awesome!!!! What engine was that? The biggest I've used is a G :)

  • awesome!....how many and what size model rocket engines are you using in a launch?

  • We can put a man on the moon but we can't count down from 10 to 0. lol

This was a cool vid though

  • That was AWESOME! I LOVE the Sat V!

  • and thats how we got to the moon

  • This model rocket is so big, it doesn't even sound like a model rocket when it blasts off.

  • Someone needs to attach a wireless camera on this bad boy.....

  • AWESOME! I LOVE the Saturn V! Great job!

  • that sounded like a fricken jet engine, I give it an A on rocketry, but a C- on the countdown =)

  • bunch of farmers who know how to use fertilizer. BRAV F'N O

  • BRAVO!!! Very impressive indeed. Thanks for the awesome video.

  • very impressive...question??? how tall is your rocket and how much does it weigh?? w/and w/out engines??

  • read the info box

  • got the height...17ft...no weight info there???

  • nicest model rocket launch I have ever seen.great job.

  • Some camera's close in on the next launch would be cool

  • One of the better models Ive seen, great vid

  • Look at the previous comments sokker! It flew on a Aerotech M1850 and 4 AMW L777.

  • great video but what type of fuel/engine did you use????????

  • where can i buy one of those? lol

  • wow cool! did it survive?

  • Impressive. Most impressive!

  • The amount of work that this must require is unbelievable....

  • wOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOw CoooooooooooooooooL

  • too freekin cool man!!!!

  • Just awesome!

  • One of my favorites videos

  • Great Launch!

  • The fins are 1 ½ times scale. I did not want to take a chance on stability on this size of a project. I spent a lot of time with RockSim on stability and am happy with the size of the fins. It has flown twice now and both times very straight up. Vern

  • what a launch...best one i've seen

  • I didn't build it but I'm quite sure it is just the fins.

  • Anyone know when will they launch this rocket again?

  • From Vern,

It flew at LDRS this year, so the next launch will be in 2010 at LDRS depending where it is. 2009 LDRS in New York I will fly a large Mercury Redstone.

  • How do you get all the engines to ignight all at once?

  • #1 - you use good detonators that won't fail

#2 - you use a system that is designed to send current to multiple ignition charges at the same time

In this case the launch was at the "away" pad (as in far away from the spectators) and the ignition was done remotely from the main launch area.

  • That sound is incredible. Great rocket and launch.

  • very pretty rocket launcher..

what kind of rocket engine motor..

    AEROTECH or another

  • Read down a bit. He flew on 1 Aerotech M1850 and 4 AMW L777 motors.

  • Really cool, looks just like the Saturn V. Was this a solid or liquid fuel rocket?

  • Solid fuel rocket. I believe that it had a cluster of 5 engines.

  • Cool, thanks.

  • Best launch I've ever seen of a model.

  • That was amazing, i have never seen anything like that! Wow!! Great model!

  • i would have loved to see this live. This is my dream.. to someday launch a rocket that tall. wow.

  • Yeah, my club at Iowa State has aspirations to build a rocket this big (actually slightly bigger) sometime.

  • It flew on a Aerotech M1850 and 4 AMW L777

  • Great flight.

What is the engine thrust and impulse ?

  • that kicked ass!

  • that was amazing
