Isn't it better for every American to have his health care paid for, instead of buying some unnecessary new weapon system? After all, it is taxpayers' money, and by definition, it should be spent to benefit the taxpayer who provides it. At any rate, he is still left anyway, because he represents urban/city interests, as the left in western politics is not representative of actual positions as it is a particular approach - that of change, while the right is rural status quo. For example, Russia's political system appears to be the opposite of ours, but both our urban areas share one thing in common: desire for change.
I would, however, say that the American tradition is even further to the right (ideologically capitalist) than the average TEA Party member, say somewhere in the libertarian range, but because the Federalists got their way, we have moved to the left (politically) over time to the point where few people remember these times. While we have made improvements, we are on the verge of making everything else worse.

Yes i do agree obama is using Keynisian tactics i study political science and i did a paper on Fiscal Policy to show how the goverment spends money , in what areas, how taxes are proportioned. Why is the economy growing with Obama's spending and under Bush and the Republicans 750,000 jobs were being lost a month and heading to a great depression? If Obama is spending, he's spending to help the economy. the Republicans were spending to help the rich.
@madkeyra Actually, the economy is not growing. We are still losing jobs, just not as quickly. The biggest job gain during Obama's tenure has been a temporary boost from the census. He cannot boost an economy using Keynesian spending tactics, because all of the money comes from taxes (taking money out of the economy and spending it less effectually than the average person can), debt (China controlling us), or printing money (otherwise known as monetizing the debt, which causes inflation).
The decennial census occurring during the middle of a recession will only make things worse, even though it is necessary to reapportion representatives. It has only added to Obama's spending rampage. This spending can only hurt the economy, and taxes will increase next year when Bush's tax cut expires. Government cannot create jobs without hurting or destroying others in the process, located in the private sector. If a business owner has to pay more taxes, that is less money spent on jobs.

Everyone should stop taking government hand-outs, including sending their kids to public school and driving on the roads. And if you don't want your kids to learn the sciences (evolution, biology, geology, astronomy, etc) then send them to a private Christian school where they can be indoctrinated the way you want them to be. Public school is available to everyone and can not infringe on the religious freedoms of the students by supporting a single type of religion (Islam/Christianity/Judaism)
@runnermatt Nobody I know of is talking about how children should not learn about science. The debate involves two issues: evolution and global warming. Ultimately, you have to take sides, and because public schools are secular, they take the secular left viewpoints on each. It is unfortunate that public schools price people out of other options, having created an unaccountable government monopoly. In practice, nobody has been able to fix the system as it is, with poor results in many areas.
Private schools would generally be more responsive, better and cheaper if market forces were allowed to work. However, some government services are necessary, such as currency, roads, military, and police. These are necessary, and since everyone has a direct benefit, it is justifiable to tax people for these kinds of services, since there is a direct benefit, whereas public schools are not necessarily used by any one person or family.
If you force people into the education system, then in some ways, you are telling people what to believe; one of our first liberties is freedom of belief. On the other hand, perhaps there is an interest in seeing that some matters are understood by students, such has how the government works, and why it does what it does, or perhaps even other subjects, without "picking sides" on certain matters like evolution or global warming.

In my 5 minute search of the internet I couldn't find anything that gave a specific year (if you know when the government mandated public schools please post). But all of the good schools back in the 1800's and early 1900's were private. And by good those schools taught more than a little bit of reading and more than how to add and subtract.

There would probably actually be range in quality that would be like the difference between a McDonald's Chicken McNugget and a Koby Steak. The reason the government created the public school system was because not everyone could afford a quality education. In fact very few could afford a good education. The public school system as we know it was created to try give a larger number of citizens a good education.

I'd rather pay for my insurance and know I'll get the help I need. As for the next person, well, they need to prioritize what is important to them and get it or not. simple. Why should people always get handouts? Earn it.

At any rate, he is still left anyway, because he represents urban/city interests, as the left in western politics is not representative of actual positions as it is a particular approach - that of change, while the right is rural status quo. For example, Russia's political system appears to be the opposite of ours, but both our urban areas share one thing in common: desire for change.

I would, however, say that the American tradition is even further to the right (ideologically capitalist) than the average TEA Party member, say somewhere in the libertarian range, but because the Federalists got their way, we have moved to the left (politically) over time to the point where few people remember these times. While we have made improvements, we are on the verge of making everything else worse.

Yes i do agree obama is using Keynisian tactics i study political science and i did a paper on Fiscal Policy to show how the goverment spends money , in what areas, how taxes are proportioned. @madkeyra Actually, the economy is not growing. We are still losing jobs, just not as quickly. The biggest job gain during Obama's tenure has been a temporary boost from the census. He cannot boost an economy using Keynesian spending tactics, because all of the money comes from taxes (taking money out of the economy and spending it less effectually than the average person can), debt (China controlling us), or printing money (otherwise known as monetizing the debt, which causes inflation).

The decennial census occurring during the middle of a recession will only make things worse, even though it is necessary to reapportion representatives. It has only added to Obama's spending rampage. This spending can only hurt the economy, and taxes will increase next year when Bush's tax cut expires. Government cannot create jobs without hurting or destroying others in the process, located in the private sector. If a business owner has to pay more taxes, that is less money spent on jobs.

Everyone should stop taking government hand-outs, including sending their kids to public school and driving on the roads. And if you don't want your kids to learn the sciences (evolution, biology, geology, astronomy, etc) then send them to a private Christian school where they can be indoctrinated the way you want them to be. Public school is available to everyone and can not infringe on the religious freedoms of the students by supporting a single type of religion (Islam/Christianity/Judaism)

@runnermatt Nobody I know of is talking about how children should not learn about science. The debate involves two issues: evolution and global warming. Ultimately, you have to take sides, and because public schools are secular, they take the secular left viewpoints on each. It is unfortunate that public schools price people out of other options, having created an unaccountable government monopoly. In practice, nobody has been able to fix the system as it is, with poor results in many areas.

Private schools would generally be more responsive, better and cheaper if market forces were allowed to work. However, some government services are necessary, such as currency, roads, military, and police. These are necessary, and since everyone has a direct benefit, it is justifiable to tax people for these kinds of services, since there is a direct benefit, whereas public schools are not necessarily used by any one person or family.

If you force people into the education system, then in some ways, you are telling people what to believe; one of our first liberties is freedom of belief. On the other hand, perhaps there is an interest in seeing that some matters are understood by students, such has how the government works, and why it does what it does, or perhaps even other subjects, without "picking sides" on certain matters like evolution or global warming.

In my 5 minute search of the internet I couldn't find anything that gave a specific year (if you know when the government mandated public schools please post). But all of the good schools back in the 1800's and early 1900's were private. And by good those schools taught more than a little bit of reading and more than how to add and subtract.

There would probably actually be range in quality that would be like the difference between a McDonald's Chicken McNugget and a Koby Steak. The reason the government created the public school system was because not everyone could afford a quality education. In fact very few could afford a good education. The public school system as we know it was created to try give a larger number of citizens a good education.
