  • SKROO TENNOR! IM A BARATONE!

  • GO TENORS! WE PROVE TO BE SUPERIOR AGAIN!

  • I like all sorts of music, from country to opera, to punk to rap.

This song is one of my favorites ever. I like to hear all the different versions. This is wonderful.

I think no matter your genre, give this song an attempt.

  • WOW WOW WOW :)))

  • dont like the arrangement...sorry

  • Great Job Guys.

  • <333

  • These guys are obviously really really good. But I really don't like that they all soloed in unison. Their tiny inconsistencies are painfully obvious. (My .02$, don't flame me)

  • @bassbone1785 no worries. we now have some nice harmonies we use, but it's different every time. This is just one of many times we have sung this. Thanks for your opine.

    @Ngranner

  • This is fabulous. Makes me want to 'visit'...the Wild Missouri...di

  • Beauty beyond words.

  • Daniel Montenegro has an amazing voice. He's singing with SanFran Opera now as an Adler Fellow. Not only that, he's a top flight guy and a great friend!!! Always a pleasure to sing with you, Buddy...

  • @NATHANGRANNER You're pretty good, too...di (from Australia)

  • WHY WHY WHY are they singing in unison??? intonation....

  • this version of the song is great, but it's not really meant to be sung with that much force(or vibrato). if you like this song you should listen to Tennessee Earnie Ford's version. i think that's as close to a perfect rendition as can be.

  • If you liked this piece then go to 'Shenandoah Graduate Choir of New Zealand' and listen to one of the best choral versions of this song.

  • I think it would have been better to hear Nathan sing this solo, he clearly has the better voice of the three. Much better than the shoutfest this turned out to be.

  • American Tenors in Lakeside, OH July 30

  • Thanks for Posting!!!

  • i live in shenandoah. i love how a song about where i live is so beautiful. it reminds me soo much of the county

  • HORRIBLE

  • I have to agree with ronharrelljr...these three guys slaughtered an otherwise hauntingly, beautiful song. It was sterile....they sucked the soul out of it by not bending the notes.

  • what a pity --- first of all, they have no idea of the meaning behind the song -- and I stand behind my comment of several months ago -- they ruined a beautiful song

  • Frank McNamara is my good friend, I just love this!

  • a great performance; some retarded comments

  • On a musical note, this is quite simply the best version I've ever heard

  • I am not certain what the argument about German flags is but since the English nation was founded by two tribes, the Angles from Schlesweig-Holstein and the Saxons from Lower Saxony and Westphalia, both in Germany, the fact is all Anglo Saxons have their ancestry in Germany.

  • @rexeric And what does that have to do with this song?

  • Irish flags among the union jacks for all the glory... but German flags!!! Like a "what´s the flaw in this film"-riddle haha

  • A german flag is no flaw. Go to Berlin sometime and read their constitution and be humbled.

  • east or west?

  • @ lookingfortalent2007 History Fail.

  • Ezekiel, maybe I'll do that. They seem to have kept their Nazis in check for the past 60 years. We need to find a way to keep ours in check in the US.

  • Hmm. "Shanandoah"? And who knew there were only about 1.5 verses? And what in heaven's name did they do with the chords?

    Hideous waste of talent.

  • never have ever I ever heard anyone ruin a song likte this!!!!!!!

  • Learn how to spell retard! You ruin the comment section!

  • you obviously missed the sarcastic intent here -- the song got butchered, the language got butchered

  • im sure you are an accomplished singer with the name like "bigego" they dont sound great and have their faults but i doubt you could sing it better than a 5th grader could

  • Beautiful! Tenors rule!

  • beautiful.

    many thanks.

  • very well done

  • Thats my cousin :)

  • You must be so proud.

  • perfect example, check out the stalter brothers, such precision

  • good voices, but they could work a little more on their own ensembleship, I mean, they barely came in together, and then they weren't staying together. Maybe I'm mistaken when it comes to singers, but as an instrumentalist, it should all be one voice. I know they are all tenors, but maybe they could do some harmony?

  • Ask the arranger.

  • People singing together can be divided into two distinct groups: soloists singing together as in opera and groups who exclusively sing together. Usually each are singing very distinct styles of music but there can be some cross-over as in this song.

These guys are soloists each retaining their distinctive resonance and vibrato. This produces a different sound to a choral group or quartet who sing with minimal or no vibrato and suppress resonance to create a more tightly blended sound.

  • it'd be better f they were singing the actual words

  • These are the actual words.

  • Just as Danny Boy is the Great Irish Song, Shenandoah is the Great American Song.

  • The lyrics to "Danny Boy" were written by Frederick Weatherly, an Englishman. The melody, commonly known as "Londonderry Air", may have been Irish. However, that's a matter of some debate. As far as Irish songs go, remember "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen" was written by an American. "The Wild Colonial Boy" is Australian.

  • I love them!! why aren't any of the other songs that they sing not on youtube!!!

  • believe texts going back many hundreds of years have settled the issue that Danny Boy is an Irish Melody. In fact, this melody has many different sets of lyrics, Danny Boy being currently the most widely known.

There was an excellent program produced by PBS a few years back that showed the deep influence of Irish melodies on American music, particularly mountain and country music. No surprise really since the Irish were present in the Americas almost from the very start.

  • If I were being inaugurated tomorrow and could request one song be played, it would be this. Shenandoah is America. I recommend you listen to Sissel in Symphony. Her version is haunting.

  • Truely one of the MOST beautiful songs ever written and I have ever heard!!!

  • Wow, I never really listen to this kind of music as a habit but if i were there live it would touch me greatly . Their voices are really nice

  • I wonder where they are singing this song?

  • The Kodak Theater in LA

  • Thanks. :-)

  • beautiful song!

  • chills down the back of my neck

  • thank you for this nathan granner has aglorious voice pure bel canto

  • ehhhhhh

  • Man! This version puts you along the banks of a river in the beautiful Shenandoah valley, a warm summer sun shining with a faint, sweet breeze caressing you.... These guys are INCREDIBLE!!!!

  • What a beautiful, poetic comment. You are so right! One of America's loveliest folk songs.

  • @Titan752

It is actually a song that takes place in Missouri about a fur trader who falls in love with Chief Shenandoah's daugher. That's why the lyrics have the singer telling Shenandoah he loves his daughter and he plans to take her across the Missouri River to start a life with her.

  • Damn. He's a real Tenor xD

  • Chanticleer owns "Shenandoah".

  • OMG!! that was so beautiful! I wish the mens choir in my school could sing like that! I'm doing this song with my choir but our song was really different than that. BRAVO!!! Very beautiful!!!!

  • I love this rendition ... the background voices and all. I agree that the first tenor's voice is exquisitely beautiful! (But I would gladly marry anyone of them!!!)

  • hahah me tooo

  • tenors are the best

  • i totally agree with u there mate

  • Amazing, the first tenor's voice is outstanding.

  • I am going to have to disagree with you. To me it seems closed but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

  • i just made a Clay Aiken Montage to this song

  • Some songs need to be made a little faster to sound really good. Listen to the Statler Brothers' version to hear what I mean with this.

  • I prefer this rendition. It reminds me of the old Paul Robeson recording.

  • I agree. Although these guys sound great, the tempo and the fact that the Statlers are from the Valley just make their version more believable.

  • I love their voices and the music. It's a beautiful song.

  • Nice video- Nice voice

    We love it !

    The Number One Showdancers

  • Mr. Granner, You have a new fan in me!

  • The first tenor, Nathan Granner, has an immaculate approach.

It drove me nuts for about 30 seconds, then I realized who his voice is similar to: Philip Quast. Does anyone else hear it? Identical quick, stable vibrato, same clean, buoyant resonance, except he's a tenor.

I've always wanted to know what that sounded like... and it's as awesome as I thought.

  • Estos tenores son de los mejores colegas que he tenido...ambos son artistas de estatura y enormes cantantes me da un gusto enorme ver este testimonio del 2003. Mauricio

  • I can't even begin to tell you how inaccurate these past two statements are.

Do you realize how amazing the line of the first tenor is?

There are numerous differences in the words of this song. We will never know what the actual lyrics are to this piece, as it is not only a traditional song, but also anonymous.

  • Gotta agree, bmwski. Also, he has an accent that makes the word "away" sound odd. Finally, some of the words in the song are just plain wrong. Listen to the Paul Robeson version if you want to hear the real thing.

  • I didnt quite care for the first tenor, his sound is very closed.

  • Amazing!!!!!!

  • Our Choir is singing this, and we got a 1 so I love the song, but a little fastr please.

  • actualy thats the regular tempo what are you guys doing it at let me guess tempo about 90 to 100 the song tempo is 50 to 60 normaly some people pick the tempo up but usualy its at the speed i mentiond 50 to 60

  • Wonderful group!!!!!!!!!

  • beautiful thanks mau
