@threedollarbill1 I agree! Trade had mega nice classy voice and also dubbed in some of his backups, clever talent. The Roomates however can cover just about anything ever done and make it sound just as sweet as ever, fantastic group. I've always said, most people will always favor the 1st artist the 1st time the hear a song. I don't, probably because I always played the flip sides more, LOL.
What a surprise... The Trade Martin 45 I have on Coed pales in comparison to this. At first I was upset that there was no vocal group backing and then there they were. This is GREAT! Thank you for giving this one some exposure
I apologize for my wording. No, I don't have this without backup. I have another Trade Martin 45 but neither side is nearly as good as this. This is now the 2nd time I've heard this one. I didn't think a vocal group was going to come in because of how late they came in to the song.
No problem at all. Have you heard In The Still Of The Night I posted by him, give it a whirl, let me know what you think. I'm hooked on it. Saturday was a bad day in history. I found a box of records, 25 cents ea. I found 2 rare 45s, Bobby Land - On The Roof on JACLAN & Jerry Landis - Lisa on AMY. Both CRACKED!!!! I wanted to cry, I still do. I recorded Bobby Land OK, I can still post it with a label scan. I never heard of the label, have U? Listen 2 that Trade Martin, let me know.
I had something similar happen lately. Got a load of 500+ records... The three REALLY GOOD (rare Jamie/Guyden distributed soul stuff on obscure labels) and they were warped terribly. I never heard of the Jaclan label.
Curiously, the version that appears on cd has a double-tracked lead vocal and has the background singers through the whole song. Why that version even exists (or why it was not the original 45 version) is beyond me.... what also perplexes me is why the cd (The Coed Records Story) included that version and not the original single version (which i felt is actually better).
Hmmm, didn't know CD had a different version? It's time to contact Trade & ask him. He's contacted a few times about In The Still Of The Night, I'll find his letter & contact him, I'm curious now, you got me wondering?
Nice one-always liked this song. His biggest song was That Stranger Used To Be My Girl..Have any Frank Cherval up or Bernie Lawrence Collecting Girls? I'm really dying to hear Golden Slipper Strut by Laurie Darnell one of my fav girl group records.Someone had a knockout version of Margie Mills cover of Goodbye Boys Goodbye from Shivaree but it was taken off.
The flip of Lorrie Darnell's Golden Slipper Strut is a killer tune called Nothing Went Right...they used Ellie Greenwich's own demo backing track for that version!
Genial
