I see very few videos where resisting lumbar extension during this movement and others is mentioned. It makes sense to stabilize the spine instead of actively encouraging unnecessary flexion or extension.
Thanks for making this video. I want to say that I disagree with you that this way is a "better" way to do a glute ham then the first way demonstrated. There's a lot of value in bending and straightening the back (as far as building lower back muscle) in many excercises such as this and the good-morning as well. Your way probably isolates the hams more but that doesn't make it better. For a competitive powerlifter - I would think the way I do it is more effective.
There is very little resistance when you bend at the waste during the glute ham raise. So little that the benefit you are trying to purport is very minimal at best. If you want to do exercises that bend at the waste stick to S.L deadlifts, good mornings, etc. The glute ham is definitely not one of the execercise in which bending at the waste is benefical.
That second one looks brutal...definitely an underrated exercise.
