I kniow the responces here shouldn't b about All in the Family, but I have to defend that show. I am a 28 year old gay, Catholic, black male, and I LOVE ALL In The Family. I LOVED how we had a show that pushed the boundaries. It was a show that basically said what a lot of ppl were thinking, and said it in such a way that u just had 2 laugh. It also showed that prejudice/racism/bigotry, was NOT just white ppl (against black ppl), bu widespread. All in the Family is a BRILLIANT show.
God damn fucking trolls ruining the comment section...
Sorry, what i meant to say is that although i respect your rights to voice your opinion, and I'm aware that some of you are looking for outlets for your anger, I would appreciate more civil discourse here.
Politicly correct is nothing but a guilt trip created bunch of white, liberals being the spokespeople of groups who don't come out and say they are offended in the first place. And yet, here they are dictating to everyone else claiming that we have to be sensitive in what we say while America goes to war and kills those same races that we are told to be sensitive to!
All in the family was a hilarious show... political correctness has gone WAYYY too far.

The Archie character was such a good representation of stupid people. You can clearly see the connection between this show and Family Guy. Not only because of Alex but because of how the couples are similar but the openings aswell.
The reason why Archie Bunker was so funny is he showed how foolish people sounded when they they made comments against gender, race, religion, or any other person that was not a WASP. He did not like Jews, blacks, gays, or even Catholics. lol He hated everyone. But he was SO FUNNY!!

@pillsareyummy You're glad you live in Canada because there's no racism right? LMAO!!! Racism, elitism, sexism etc. exists in every country in every corner of the world. Somehow we've let a political party in this country project the simplest negative human emotions onto another political party as if they own a monopoly on it. I didn't know human being were so easy to classify. I also didn't know that if you vote Dem, you're automatically excluded from having the finger of racism pointed at you.
@hatfisc The social fabric of Canada is different than it is in the US. The problem, in regards to homophobia (as well as other issues) has to do with religious dogmatism, that plagues US politics, and society in general...

And the thumbs ups just mean its that many white people on the net with little or any black friends at all, but yet, feel as if they know sooo much about black people. Now that's funny. Good impersonation other then the fact that he was nicer, and not funny. damn political correctness. It can go to hell! If you're an ass hole your an ass hole wither you are white, black, or freakin poka dotted.
I thought this clip would show an Archie bunker responding to contemporary issues- not the 1970s bunker living in 2001. I mean, nothing he said in the 70s would not even be tolerated today.
I guess you still don't get it, do you? Reverse racism does not do a damn thing to eliminate past racial issues. It only intensifies it! Obama has done more to divide this country than any other president in the history of the USA.
You can call me a cracker ass, white honky, white trash, or whatever you wish and I will still be white. Just don't call me something I am not, like a racist.
@blacknewfie Here are my comments- # Turtleposer 2 weeks ago PC'ness is ruining the country! Just imagine. Now we have to treat everyone the way WE expect to be treated. The unfairness of it all! then # Turtleposer 1 day ago @blacknewfie - I take it you're not keen on treating people the way you wish to be treated. WTF? I didn't call you a racist. Perhaps you need to work on your reading skills.
@blacknewfie How? If I remember correctly, Bush usually had an "us or them" mentality about everything and made anybody who disagreed with him out to be unpatriotic. If anything, Obama in the White House has shown me that lots of people don't want him there solely because he's black. That's more racist than anything Obama's ever said or done.
What the hell is racist about Bush's "us or them" comment? Liberals fail at logic and objectivity.
We don't want Obama in office because he is a Marxist Statist who kisses the asses of our enemies and spits in the face of out greatest allies. We don't want him because he is taking away our liberties in the name of helping the common man, yet the common man is less free with every agenda pushed down our throats by Obama, Reid, and Pelosi. God help us!
I'm going to make Archie-like statements towards women just for the sake of pissing off feminists. I think it's important to frustrate liberal feminists for the well-being of humans everywhere.
I aspire to be the object of the Feminists' scorn. Has feminism contributed anything to our society? I have nothing against women doctors and such, but feminism is not about ontological equality for genders. Feminism is an excuse for a bunch of ugly women to impose their will on other people. I had a feminist teacher frame me for plagiarism in eighth grade.
Rush said it best" "feminism was created so unattractive women could have access to mainstream society." I too have been a victim of a feminist assault in education. Bitch gave me a D in 6th grade because I was too masculine for her science class.
It's sad that All in the Family could never be made today. You can't even show a rerun without some liberal white apologist falling all over themselves to say how much they disagree with it just to make all the minorities feel better.
@gotch09 Nothing. It seems like a bunch of people are under the impression that Archie Bunker is some sort of hero who pisses off liberals. All in the Family was a great show.
Plenty have TRIED to "showcase the absurdity of political correctness." And it's usually painfully unfunny. In many cases, people who lash out at PC excess have a sense of humor that comes across to the rest of us as just bullying and mean-spirited. (and nothing's worse than a bully who thinks that just because he's saying shocking things, he's being "edgy" or something.)
PC can get ridiculous. But most people who try to skewer it remind us why it exists in the first place.
However, "King of the Hill" was a show that often targeted the excesses of political correctness, and usually managed to be funny while doing so. The later episodes could get overly preachy, though.
When Mad TV first came out, people were like "whatever. this show sucks. it's just trying to be SNL" but then Will Ferrell left SNL and everyone was like "ok who's left? nobody. this show sucks. put it on Mad TV" and then Mad TV was cool.
calling someone on the internet a pussy outa nowhere is kinda pussyish. i just woke up so i'm gonna eat some soup and drink a beer. if i'm still interested, i'll come back later and flame you... but most likely, i'll get into playoff hockey and lose interest in this... so have a nice day i guess
Did they actually see the "Edith Gets Hired" episode (where, Archie actually pulled the 'a woman's place is in the home' card) or was it just a wild guess? :-P
When you find your programing becoming MORE censored, and mature rating aren't reflective of mature discussion but of tits and screaming, then it's a sure sign that your society is going down the shitter. Oops, I mean the human waste disposal unit.
704 Hauser St. in Astoria, Queens, New York is typical setting of MANY living rooms. The Bunkers are typical of MANY Joe Six-Pack, working class bread-winners, housewives, college students, and: the generation gap.
This mature discussion is what you find all across America rather than the "tits and screaming".
where you can be sexiest towards men but not women. where its wrong to make fun of any religion except Christianity. Where you can be racist towards whites and not blacks. and where blacks are the only race on this planet that went through hell.
I definitely agree with you the sexism issue. I see commercials all the time that are degrading to men, but of course if they are degrading to women, action is taken.
lol no its suppose to mean that thats what the world believes. no one brings up how the Chinese were treated, the Irish, the Japanese and as you said the Native Americans. hell im dating one XD
Everyone thinks that blacks are the only ones that have the right to bitch about how "they" were treated.
Ya pretty much every race has been treated like shit. Hell look at the Jews for all of History they been attacked, Slaves by the Egyptians, Hitler, NOW even the pakistan hate. But Lets not forget even whites. World war 2. Tons of white people Died, aswell as white folks for the Civil War to abolish slavery. Oh and me being Italian, Irish and Native Background. I tell them all the crap my "people" went through, and they just shut up.
@PKA19 LOL. Really, that's funny. ROTF I love it. They think just because of their skin tone they know what it is to suffer. I'm a white working class female christian in a world where having an accent and being from the country is worse then being black. I guarantee by the time I'm twenty five I'll be discriminated against more then black people of my generation and yet they get to bitch....that's just not right. You keep holding your own against maybe they'll learn.
Blacks long ago have the right to complain. Almost all blacks today haven't seen slavery or anything of that sort. So blacks today should just stfu. Their grandmothers have the right to complain.
Blacks are the only ones that had to deal with institutionalized discrimination. There was certainly bigotry targeting and oppressing other groups, and immigration quotas and outright bans from time to time, but no other group had to deal with an equivalent of Jim Crow.
I'm DEFINITELY NOT trying to belittle the plight of African Americans, but that isn't completely true. The Chinese went through HELL, as did the Irish, and I don't have to tell you what Native Americans were put through. And the Japanese concentration camps in World War II? They usually doesn't get as much publicity, but other non-WASP groups had to put up with a LOT of BS as well. However, Blacks certainly did go through the worst, with the possible exception of the Indians,
All of the things you just mentioned are exactly what I had in mind when I said that other groups had faced oppression and bigotry in the US. (I'm unable to think of our transcontinental railroads without thinking of the armies of abused, overworked Chinese laborers, for instance.) I'm just saying that other groups didn't have an equivalent of Jim Crow, or its unofficial but still-pervasive offshoots outside the south.
As far as I know, though, the only group that came close to facing that kind of widespread systematic discrimiantion were the Irish during the mid-1800s. "Irish Need Not Apply" signs were everywhere, and the immigrants were commonly depicted as bestial sub-humans.
@Marbles471 Yes, and the Germans were treated the same way as the Irish. And it is my understanding that this had nothing to do with the Irish and the Germans being Irish or German. What it was, was the fact that most of the Irish and German Immigrants were also Catholics. And people at that time were afraid of Catholicism getting a foothold in this country. You have to remember that the first immigrants were Protestants fleeing religious persecution in Europe, this is why they were concerned.
You're right, of course. No one else went through the systematic prejudice for so long that African Americans did. And yeah, the railroads were EXACTLY what I was thinking of that the Chinese went through.
You know----whenever I hear a new report about skin cancer and sun exposure, the first thing that crosses my mind is "I wonder how many Chinese railroad laborers got skin cancer?" I have no idea if the ozone layer had been depleted enough yet or if all the other factors that make exposure more risky than it once was would have mattered yet.
One thing's for sure---even if sunblock had been around then, the supervisors would have been too cheap to supply those guys with any.
@Darkheart101 You seem to be a little too hypercritical about the way that things are in this world. All religions are made fun of from time to time. Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Scientologists are all commonly ridiculed in the media on a near constant basis. That list isn't even complete. A wise man once said that you need to roll with the punches. We just need to learn to take those hits in stride.

@Darkheart101 I agree! Blacks should go back to Africa! Women belong in the kitchen! Christianity is totally believable and should be practiced by everyone!
@BH727 Christianity is bs so is all religion racism is stupid n evil ditto for sexism but u kno whats worst then alll those things SOCIALISM its robs man of the freedom to be fully human and so do all these other ism u just mentioned
I know right. Not every black person is racist toward white people, in fact most aren't, but the ones that are need to get their heads out of their asses. Sure, their race has suffered, but Gen X and Y blacks have nothing to complain about. They were born after Civil Rights, they never went through what their ancestors went through. Shit, my ancestors arrived on a boat 80 years ago, well after Lincoln. They were Irish and Polish, and believe me they went through hell too, so stfu
@TheGrungeLibertarian Im black and I dont complain about white people too often. But for you to say that we have nothing to complain about, you have lost your mind. I was born in 84 and believe me when i say i have definitely had my experience with racism towards black people. But let the irish polish guy tell me I have nothing to complain about because im not in shackles working the fields??? Ok give me a fucking break
@sandra4380 "...had my experience with racism towards black people." Yes, however the Black community has to deal with many of the problems that plague it. I used to live in Black neighbourhoods (I'm white, and live in Canada, and our 'black neighbourhoods' are nothing like the ones found in the US, they're much, much better). Crime, filth, murders, etc, were the most prevalent in these areas. So long as all the negative black stereotypes continue, so will racism....
@sandra4380 Everyone hears racist remarks towards them at some point. There will always be racists in the world. I find it funny how black people, even the ones born in the 1980's act like they were put through slavery and white people owe them something. I wasnt there, and I didnt do anything. I dont owe anyone jack
@MrSaturdayNight7 first of all.....you are extra late and I am so over this comment thread. 2nd everyone doesn't hear racists remarks, Join the military you will meet plenty of people who have never been subjected to that and they will tell you first hand. For you to be so narrow minded and figure oh, whats the big deal? people hear it all the time, is the reason why racism will never die. Dont tell me how its funny how "black people act" 'cause you dont know 1 thing about how "black people act"
@MrSaturdayNight7 unless you have been around every black person in the world. White people dont owe me shit, and I never thought they did. so case in point YOU'RE WRONG, your response to my comment is completely off putting, annoying and pointless. LIke I said, born in the 80' & experienced plenty of racism in my life. As for you, you have no clue what certain individuals have been through so keep your asinine comments to yourself, or atleast dont bring them to me

I guess you still don't get it, do you? Reverse racism does not do a damn thing to eliminate past racial issues. It only intensifies it! Obama has done more to divide this country than any other president in the history of the USA.

Political incorrectness is a scapegoat for misogyny and racism. Does it hurt people
alfizzy711 1 year ago
@blacknewfie How? If I remember correctly, Bush usually had an "us or them" mentality about everything and made anybody who disagreed with him out to be unpatriotic. If anything, Obama in the White House has shown me that lots of people don't want him there solely because he's black. That's more racist than anything Obama's ever said or done.
BH727 1 year ago
@BH727

@BH727,
I aspire to be the object of the Feminists' scorn. Has feminism contributed anything to our society? I have nothing against women doctors and such, but feminism is not about ontological equality for genders. Feminism is an excuse for a bunch of ugly women to impose their will on other people. I had a feminist teacher frame me for plagiarism in eighth grade.
Drregaleagle 1 year ago
@Drregaleagle

@SamoaRowe Whats wrong with showcasing the absurdity of racism and bigotry?
gotch09 1 year ago
@gotch09 Nothing. It seems like a bunch of people are under the impression that Archie Bunker is some sort of hero who pisses off liberals. All in the Family was a great show.

@SamoaRowe Oh, don't mistake me, I agree. It was a great groundbreaking show. I just loved it when Edith go the upper hand and told HIM to stifle!

@SamoaRowe
We need shows that showcase the absurdity of liberalism and political correctness. Too bad the libs own Hollywood.
blacknewfie 1 year ago
@blacknewfie
Marbles471 8 months ago
@blacknewfie
However, "King of the Hill" was a show that often targeted the excesses of political correctness, and usually managed to be funny while doing so. The later episodes could get overly preachy, though.

But Lets not forget even whites. World war 2. Tons of white people Died, aswell as white folks for the Civil War to abolish slavery. Oh and me being Italian, Irish and Native Background. I tell them all the crap my "people" went through, and they just shut up.

Blacks are the only ones that had to deal with institutionalized discrimination. There was certainly bigotry targeting and oppressing other groups, and immigration quotas and outright bans from time to time, but no other group had to deal with an equivalent of Jim Crow.
Marbles471 8 months ago
@Marbles471
However, Blacks certainly did go through the worst, with the possible exception of the Indians,
ryokomocha 8 months ago
@ryokomocha
Marbles471 8 months ago
@Marbles471
As far as I know, though, the only group that came close to facing that kind of widespread systematic discrimiantion were the Irish during the mid-1800s. "Irish Need Not Apply" signs were everywhere, and the immigrants were commonly depicted as bestial sub-humans.
Marbles471 8 months ago
@Marbles471 Yes, and the Germans were treated the same way as the Irish. And it is my understanding that this had nothing to do with the Irish and the Germans being Irish or German. What it was, was the fact that most of the Irish and German Immigrants were also Catholics. And people at that time were afraid of Catholicism getting a foothold in this country. You have to remember that the first immigrants were Protestants fleeing religious persecution in Europe, this is why they were concerned.

You're right, of course. No one else went through the systematic prejudice for so long that African Americans did. And yeah, the railroads were EXACTLY what I was thinking of that the Chinese went through.
ryokomocha 8 months ago
@ryokomocha

But let the irish polish guy tell me I have nothing to complain about because im not in shackles working the fields??? Ok give me a fucking break
sandra4380 1 year ago
@sandra4380 "...had my experience with racism towards black people." Yes, however the Black community has to deal with many of the problems that plague it. I used to live in Black neighbourhoods (I'm white, and live in Canada, and our 'black neighbourhoods' are nothing like the ones found in the US, they're much, much better). Crime, filth, murders, etc, were the most prevalent in these areas. So long as all the negative black stereotypes continue, so will racism....
pillsareyummy 1 year ago

Dont tell me how its funny how "black people act" 'cause you dont know 1 thing about how "black people act"
sandra4380 1 year ago
@MrSaturdayNight7 unless you have been around every black person in the world. White people dont owe me shit, and I never thought they did. so case in point YOU'RE WRONG, your response to my comment is completely off putting, annoying and pointless.
