I was just wondering, I thought i had a female electric blue cichlid, but i was told only males are blue. Mine has fry in her mouth, and has the stripes going horizontally, not vertically. What type of fish is mine?

Nice tank! i tried to scroll through the question to see if any asked but i did not see the question im am going to ask. I want to know what type of rock is that in your tank?
@3000carriers it depends. 55 is a larger tank but not huge. also it depends what cochlids are in there to put oscars in. oscars are very intellegent. they are like rocket scientists. they could kill the fish you have in there or vis versa like green terrors and jack dempseys should be fine
@3000carriers well as you said about five inches. they are good sized. i would say you probably could but make sure there alre LOTS!!!! of hinding places. they might not bother eachother or they will kill eachother if you can while picking out the fish. dont pick the most aggressive one in there. or the biggest either try to buy a little smaller. oscars are intresting they have personalitys that can dictate the tank. do you have a "boss" of the tank right now. this will be a fish that fights
@3000carriers over territory. a good trick is to redoo your tank before putting the new fish in. so to not cause fights over territory. they will be all have a clean slate and all be starting off the same in a new envirment. thus each fish has a chance of getting territory that isnt clamed by someone else. have fun keep me posted i want to know what happens

So i've always been really into collecting the big Malawi stuff. And i have to say, this is the best collection of perfect looking predatory species i think ive ever seen in one private tank. Great tank, amazing fish.
Most Impressive Malawi tank I have ever seen. Some of the species asked about are extremely hard to find, some are easy to find. The maturity & health of these Hap's are a perfect example of doing everything right for many years.. Looks like 500 gallon
+ with excellent care that resulted in perfection. Trully Great. 5+ stars.
The sand and rock look great! Love your choice of fish. Very different. This is the best African tank I have seen. Where did you get your fish? What are you feeding them?
Thanks. My fish are partly imported wildcaught specimens and partly bought as fry in the shops in The Netherlands. I feed them protein pellets, shrimps, mussels and smelt.
I would love to see a new video with both close up images of the fish and a view that would show the whole tank. Your tank has truly inspired me. Thanks!
Kudos to you! Probably one of the best private malawi tanks out there. You have one of my all time favorites...the Buccochromis Rhoadesii. He is stunning!
hey i got a 30 gallon and i was wanting to get either 2 or 3 chiclids in there... any sugestions or combinations i can get that look preatty and wont eat eatch other???:?
i have two yellow labs i think i have a male and a female i just bought a male but the female destroys him lol because hes so tiny and hes afraid to mate with her i guess then i have another thats malawi thats male that doesnt give a hoot lol
yea i know alot about the species.. from what ive heard i think 5 will fit great... thanks alot and check out my vid... ... ur tank is gorgeous and ur fish look great, also do ur fish flash or rub against rocks sometimes?
I would love to have a Malawi Cichlid. I have a 40 gallon breeder aquarium, (36"L x 18"W x 17"H) I think it would be large enough but I also plan on getting Cardinal Tetra, angelfish, and some other fish. Would it bully them or would it need a larger tank?
I saw your tank / fish pictures on the cichlid forum dated 2008 - awesome! I have to find a place that sells them in the US. You actually had a mated pair? Wow..
can you recommend some mildy aggressive cichlids for a 55g? this is what i have: 4 Yellow labs 2 Afra Cichlids 3 electric blue johannis 1 red tailed shark 2 bumble bee cichlids 2 eureka red cichlid 1 demonasi cichlid 2 azureus cichlid i would like to keep about 20-25 and i only have 17 so please tell me if my combonation is good and name some other, hardy and semi aggressive cichlids. please mention some mbuna/malawi cichlids. awesome tank!
Hi, I am not a specialist in the cichlids you mention. I do not know even know them all. But I wouldn't combine mbuna's and aulonacara's in such a small tank if I were you. Mbuna's ar rather aggressive and drive the other fish mad (especially the afra) Make it a mbuna tank and keep 2 or 3 species with larger numbers. This spreads the agression.
I might keep the Afra, that's the most beautiful one. If I were you I would mix yellow and blue (lab. caeruleus and maingano for instance). You could also set up a saulosi tank, then you have both in one.
You´re absolutely right - they mainly eat fish, MAINLY. But in the big lake they also do eat some `green stuff ´ like their relatives the mubunas do it exceptionally! Kind of they grasp some stones ´by the way´ on the way for fish ;-))
maybe they are really a bit overfeed. Especially the venustus. That´s due to their eager to eat at first, isn´t it?? Pellets are ok, but maybe you replace them with spirulina, or green pellets only!! They also like to eat vegetarian!! Hope you like my advise! You are doing great apart from that!!!
