The frustrations the protesters were attempting to express that night were fueled by years of OPD oppression & more recently specifically targeting of perceived leaders of the OccupyOakland camp. OPD routinely uses excessive force on peaceful people, even this march was mostly peaceful. Sure there were a couple jerks who threw glass bottles, but their response was way over the top.

There is no excuse for police brutality, but this girl on the bike shouldn't have been riding her bike right in front of the police as slow as she did. It looks like the crowd was small and it would have been easy for everyone to move aside. If you look close, she makes a right turn kinda loses control over her bike because of her speed, and cuts them off. I dont know, I wouldn't really call this unprovoked.

At 0:15-17 you can clearly see a cop reach over, and pull the bike off it's course, swinging it around in front of them. He then pushes the bike over and advances on the rider. A clear case of assault on a bicycle rider riding in a legal manner.
