@IBMeddling Its the people choice if they are amish. thats okay. whats is not okay is that the children of them did not have the freedom of this and mostly not even the education to understand when they are in danger.
Plus.. the parents of these children are fucking morons, i have not heard that anyone drove with them. get CPS involved and get their children :s
@IBMeddling moron do you even understand what i am saying? Do you want a child to die because the parent was too stupid to teach the child something they would have know if it wasnt for their fucking stupid lifestyle?
@gr8Sweetfox, Again...The Amish say the same thing about how you raise your kid...Example : they will probably say " How could they raise their kid with all that evil technology to their kids...Facebook, Internet porn, Violent video games, human cloning, nuclear weapons..."
@IBMeddling listen. they can continue with their lifestyle as long as the child knows the safety warning signs. Why have they not been told? It is like now knowing wnat a a red traffic light means
@gr8Sweetfox , I know what you are saying (where just going around in circles here) My bottom line message that this is suspose to be the "Land of the free" - How would you like it if the Amish tried to tell you how to raise your kid?
(continued, part 3) is right and wrong, or good and evil? Perhaps, the influence of ones parent's during the the early years of one's life, where one develops their sense of self and their views of the world changes their perspective?
One living this lifestyle misses out on all the great things modern humanity has to offer, such as the modern knowledge and technologies which allow us see places which we would never be able to see before, talk to people who we would never have known (cont..)
After reading some of these comments I am totally amazed at the hateful comments. EVERYONE chooses how they live and that is their right. Just because you don't agree does not give you the right to be so hateful and mean spirited.
@11301920 I agree....and what really gets me are the ones who talk so much shite about the Amish. If this would've been a family of another domination and lifestyle, none of these trolls would've said a bloody word!
@IBMeddling daily car accidents are from lack of technology and application as well. if they utilized technology those 3 kids wouldn't have died that night.
@mrteemumilto Yes, but the children of the Amish have their way of life chosen for them from the moment their born. They will never have the chance to live a normal life if they desired, at least not easily. The children never get to discover "themselves"; it is like those who are forced into a certain religion without ever getting to choose what they believe on their own.
Actually when they become adults all Amish peiple experience Rumspringa, and hence choice if they wish to live as such. This is conducted when they are adults so they can make the correct decision. The fact that they died in a buggy accident says as much about the Amish as a car accident does for our society, ie very little.
@ForImperium that's bullsh*t.... bc someone who drives a car might have known about the severe weather conditions with the aide of modern technology... hell they could have avoided the trip all together if they had a phone. If they had a cell phone with them they might have been able to call for help. Thanks to their religious principles these kids died. Or i guess you could blame it on God if it makes you feel better.
@perfectdark158 you seem to know very little of the Amish. can't say I am an expert, but apparently you don't even know about the world famous Rumspringa... maybe you should first study them before just saying what you think and maybe calling it your opinion, while clearly it is based on ignorance.
@SalemStorm that aborted fetus never even knew it was alive. not to mention it had a mother or any wants or needs.
most normal abortions are done long before the fetus has much more than a clump of brain cells. it has no real way to "think" or "tell" anyone anything.
full grown children are another story. no one is saying we should abort a 10 year old.
@perfectdark158 you are so wrong. Every amish child when they turn 18 are allowed to go on a journey to the real world to experience life in the world at wide. It is a sacred and important part of amish life.
There was even a TV show made about it, called "Amish in the City"
Surprisingly the vast majority of Amish chose to return to being Amish after their journey.
I strongly advise you to do a little research before you broadly criticize and stereotype an entire social group.
@VoidOnTuesday You fail to see the big picture, you mention (as have many), Rumspringa.
These children have been brought up with a certain bias towards one way of life; it's like how a Catholic child raised in a strict household can choose in adulthood to convert to another religion or atheism, but probably wont, as they have been raised to believe what's 'right'. Those who are born into Amish households do not live as they do because they want to, or because they believe in the (cont...)
@VoidOnTuesday (continued, part 2) lifestyle, they live this way because they happen to be born into an Amish family. These children are forced to live a life separate from a lot of the greater part of humanity, they are living blindly.
Now, during this journey to the real world in which everyone brings up, do you think these children give today's society a full chance, or perhaps do you think that as a Muslim visiting a Christian Church they have a preconceived notion of what (continued....)
@VoidOnTuesday And easily access an almost unlimited amount of information.
When making decisions such as that involved in Rumspringa, a child should not have preconceived notions of the right way to live. If you want to live as an Amish, fine, but live normally with your children, give them a chance to experience the world unbiased, without interference; then, if they chose to live that lifestyle, that's THEIR choice.
Tell me again why I'm wrong, I'm interested in what everyone has to say.
@perfectdark158 umm....have you forgoten about Rumspring? they do EXACTLY what you just said. have a week of all out partying with 0 parents and supervision to do whatever the hell they want and figure out if they want to be an amish or not for life.
@perfectdark158 "if you raise a child in the ways of the Lord, he shall not depart from it." Society forgets this part and also GOD. The quakers also left England for religious persecution. There are those that speak against religion and there are those that speak against religious practices and abhor such practices. People have a right to chose which religion they will bring a child into. The Amish did nothing wrong. There is worse. Children with bombs in Mid East, raised to be that way by MOM.
@perfectdark158 actually no they don't...they get to choose the life they want at the age of 16...they just do things the old fashioned way and there's really nothing wrong with that...at least they r not damaging the planet the way we r...
That's rubbish. Everyone is influenced by their family's religion (or lack of) as a child. Then we grow up and make our own minds up what we want to live as. Just like the Amish. Nobody forces them to be 'Amish' as adults, just as nobody is forced to be 'Christian' or 'Jewish' or 'Buddhist' or 'American' or whatever other label you care to use.
When an Amish person is 19, they are allowed to live in the real world, party and do what ever for a week. After that, they have a choice to stay Amish or become someone of society, like you and me.
@JogBird why should the parents be charged? it was obviously an accident. being charged if anything hurts the family not justice. put yourself in their shoes.
@djkissbird I'm not sure deciding to cross what looks to be a low water crossing, when the water is higher than normal could be classified as an accident. Tragic outcome yet, but dismissing things as encourages more poor decisions that leads more accidents Yea I'm probably a jerk as well. Not that I'm saying to protests at the kid's funerals ABC style.
