Asa is incorrect to say that the cartels would simply deal in harder substances to replace marijuana. There is no other illegal substance that has the demand that marijuana has. Marijuana is the #1 cash crop in the nation and 15 million people use it a month. No other substance has that kind of demand and therefore the cartels would never be able to find a substance to replace the revenue they make from marijuana. Legalize marijuana and 66 to 75 percent of their income is cut off.

Then cracked down on people to make more money and get their product back to sell it again... Then their buddies get paid tax payers money to imprison them like slaves through contracts. we need to pitch it to the drug companies as they will also receive profits from it and by the way they have more money to pay lobbyists plus their control on the government through their contributions to the economy will make the difference, Gov't officials are obviously siding with the drug companies, might they be receiving compensation to overseas accounts under created identities? i wouldnt completely doubt it some of these drug companies are out of the country.

I think people are looking at this the wrong way. the "War on Drugs" is a legitimate war - but too much money is devoted to cracking down on the benign use of marijuana, when efforts should be devoted to preventing the proliferation of more harmful drugs like coke, speed, and heroine.

It is not a gateway drug . the gateway arguement is another case of using numbers to draw a conclusion that isnt linked to the specific question at hand.Its like saying it causes people to commit suicide because there are people who have committed suicide who had marijuana in their system,The fact is marijuana use was symptomatic not the cause ,just like the gateway effect , its not causative ,its a by product of having to buy from people who also deal in crack and other drugs.
