never seen anything that incredibly powerful, such emotions...I admire him not only as a skater but as a man too, and unbelievable how he manages to skate like God even when he's in such pain...a legend that will never be forgotten
I will never understand how he placed a mere third place after that masterpiece of a program. Its possibly the best short program he has EVER given!!!
This is one of my all time favorite performances by Alexei Yagudin.
I would guess a 90% of figure skating fans may pick the "Winter" performance from the 2002 SLC Olympics but I much prefer this pgm.
If I am not mistaken he suffered a foot injury prior to the 2001 Worlds? and for him to put in his "guts & soul" into this circular & straight line footwork, a commitment to every edges, steps and the turns with so much emotions, wow!!!
the all time Greats in the figure skating,no doubt!
I completley agree. I am not saying that Winter was a bad sp because it obviously wasn't. But this program had far more emotion and passion to it and I think it is his best sp.
Absolutely! Alexei said in an interview "Winter" and "Gladiator" were his favorite programs. I love his footwork in "Winter," and he got six 6.0's for the program at the 2002 Worlds. BUT this is the program he remembers most because of his injured foot! Imagine landing powerful jumps when a foot is numb - - the footwork he does while skating backwards is breathtaking. What passion he shows - - the audience loved this; the commentators did and so do we; so why did he not get 6.0's for artistry?
His qualifying mark dragged him down. It was a disaster - a totally destroyed foot with painkillers injected directly into the sole for all three stages of the competition.
He pushed through this through sheer force of will. I saw it live and was totally floored. Anyone else would have dropped out!
I still think of him as the greatest competitor ever. I don't think anyone has ever loved competition the way he does.
he probably was hit with a deduction on his spin combo because your suppossed to have 8 revolutions on each foot and he only did 6 on one and 4 on the other but besides that he is one of my favorite skaters of all time
It was legen, elit for it, dary!!!:-)
Legendary, famous, nice, super, wonderfull...

Alexei Yagudin is the only skater who can skate to Chopin's Revolution Etude. It is amazing to see how he embodies this piece flawlessly.

I love how excited Terry Gannon was, especially because he has a basketball (not skating) background!

That was undermarked. It should've been at least straight 5.9s for Presentation. He knew he had no chance of winning anymore after the marks came up.

I agree. It was so undermarked. It's deserved 5.9 to 6.0 for 2nd mark. One of the greatest performence from Yags.
