OK, quick response, when I said it was a British film I may have been mistaken but I noticed the director and a fair few of the cast where British and it felt like a British film so I made the leap. Now I knew it was filmed in South Africa, but then many Hollywood films are filmed outside of USA, they're still American so I assumed this was the case with District 9. What I meant was that the film isn't a Hollywood blockbuster, and it therefore isn't as "in your face" as most Hollywood films.
