  • Does anyone else think she sounds about 20 or so years ahead of her time ? Just in terms of how she is singing this ?

  • @thisiskris017 Only 20 years??

  • @amigammon Yeah about 20 years lol

  • @ChiroQuacker I can say with certainty that you are disgusting person for posting that. How much hate do you have that you felt the need to post such bile on a video others came here to enjoy? Even if you feel that way, which is still pretty disappointing, WHY do you feel the need to push your opinion on others. I feel sorry for you.

  • @ohdarling95

everything i said was FACT. you may not like the truth but it is all true

now joni mitchell came out and said terrible things about bob dylan..that he is a thief who steals music, lyrics from others, etc

does joni say that about lil wayne, jay z, tupac, biggie...those ignorant minstrels who use their lyrics to call women bitches, hoochies and ho's...and use the word "nigga" in their lyrics ad nauseum

    does joni criticize them? NO

just bob "blowin in the wind" dylan...fuck her

  • @ChiroQuacker She didn't say anything about you either !..... or do you expect her to make comments about every airhead on the planet.... Bob Dylan wasn't too bad a first choice and some of her remarks were accurate....and anyway who the fuck is lil wayne etc apart from being a bunch of nobodies that Joni shouldn't waste her breath on.

  • @thGory1

bob dylan has a lot more class then joni:

1- he is a very devoted father

2- he is a very devoted grandfather

3- he is generous with his time, love, money to his family

4- bob never responded to joni's hateful comments about him

the last i heard of joni was she reunited with her daughter who she never saw for 35 years...the daughter found joni..joni did NOT find or look for the daughter

then..joni slapped her daughter in the face and hit her repeatedly..the LAPD filed a report..

  • @ChiroQuacker Oh please --- spare me the nonsensical morality lecture and get back on board to what you originally said. Next you'll be saying that Bob Dylan is really The Son of God and Joni is the anti - christ. Who knows what you might claim after that ---- you might even go so far as to claim that Bob can sing. Thats when you'd be convicted of being ludicrous !.....

  • @thGory1

reality...if there was no bob dylan..there never would have been a joni mitchell

joni mitchel...mother of the year NOT

  • @ChiroQuacker I was close wasn't I - now you're claiming that Bob is not just the Son of God but is God himself. (" without Bob there'd be no Joni " - hilarious ) Never mind as Eve wasn't mother of the year either and she was the only contender for the title.

  • Cmon...it's Joni and a dulcimer making more music in 4 minutes than anyone can or will. Nobody can deny the talent...ever.

  • damn hippies...get a job!!!

  • When I think of California music, I think of Quicksilver Messenger Service.

  • I miss the Beachboys

  • I loved you Brian since I was 14, I still have a drumstick Dennis gave me at a show in San Jose and a half hotdog! kept in my freezer! Born and raised in Santa Cruz, "Surfer Girl" is still my forever favorite,

  • @cbergantz

i bet dennis gave you his hot dog!! and a cream rinse to wash it down...haha...backstage slag

  • watch?v=ysNd4QGOgeY

  • nice.

  • calumea

  • nothing beautiful and worthwhile lasts for ever. if anything, the fact that this song can never be played again in the same way is a part of its aching beauty.

  • I'm from south of France and live in Vancouver CA now. I really love this tune, it's really meaningfull to me, as sometimes I would like to go back home to see the folks I dig and enjoy a warm weather.

    It's a beautiful song.

  • This is so beautiful!

  • well it would be kind of grotesque to see a 60 year old woman singing in that voice. Like seeing Judy Collins and hearing her. she looks like a witch and still holds on to that girlish voice. joins voice matured, but really can you imagine a 60 yr old joni singing like this. not very appealing.

  • @amigammon Yes it is - but at least she's left us a huge and beautiful legacy .... your legacy may just be the ability to make inane , inconsequential and ill informed comments ....I suppose thats better than no legacy and at least puts you on a par with Foghorn Leghorn

  • @thGory1 Okay, let's see. You AGREE with me by saying "Yes it is" as in, "Yes it is too bad that she smoked for years and ruined her own voice." But then you also say that what you agreed with is inconsequential even though there was a consequence, i. e. a gravelly voice for the world to hear. Then you say my short comment was ill informed, again, even though you AGREE with me. I guess there's no hope for either of us. The world looks collectively forward to the legacy you will leave too.

  • @amigammon Ha Ha ? I take the Sir Humphrey defence i.e. Q " yes it is or yes it isn't " .A " yes " He was also a pedantic semantic ! As for my legacy ???? ....and by the way ... even non smokers don't sound like 20 year olds when they hit 60 !... just as their boobs don't pertly bounce anymore either and remain in a constant state of sag !

  • @thGory1 maybe he is the 13 angry man ie movie 12 angry men lol

  • @stickitupyourasteric Yep , we live on a planet with 12 angry men and 3.5 billion angry women.... I give up and all I do now is watch repeats of F Troop

  • great video,great song.

  • Sweet, young and innocent yet worldly and wise Ms. Joni Mitchell who influenced many many lives, including my own forever and ever and still now.

  • Im only a sperm and i think this is great.

  • That was incredible for 69, network TV.

  • thanks to joni for the great music

  • I love this stuff and I'm a 50 million years old vaccuum cleaner! I'm so special!

  • @Mauroleiicus Thank you for that!

  • @annathrine What?

  • @Mauroleiicus For your lovely sarcasm, describing how frustrating it is how everyone thinks that they are special, because, for example, they are only 13.

  • @annathrine Yup, like someone cares about your age.

  • @Mauroleiicus Bahahahahahahahahaha

  • @rythemplayer joni had her hay day back in the 60's. Just for the record ;)

  • The most relevant and touching poet of my lifetime!

  • oh, yess, i like it!!

  • her voice is a gift

  • I Like this SONG,so brilliant been written...

  • really something, huh? no one else ever like her: beauty, playing talent, lyrics, voice. just think of turning on the t.v. and seeing this artist for your first time.

  • Oh joni , Your my favourite and inspiration. Coming from a 15 year old. <3

  • Oh Joni, we know you descended from Heaven. There can never be another.

  • i think this is her best rendition of this song

  • That was incredible.

  • Love Joni. So unique and special.

  • i'll even kiss a Sunset pig!

  • I love it.. Joni is so utterly magical.. her ideas...musically just knock me out.. =]

  • how could 13 people dislike this?

  • I'm 20 and i feel i have missed out on acts like Joni. It depresses me. I want to go to the troubadour and just hang out with james taylor, carole king and elton John. I fear I will never get to do anything like this. Is there a place where I can listen to music like this live in the world at all? I wish I grew up in the 70's. Fml.

  • @PurpleWhaleProd There are plenty of summer venues worth your time and effort to explore. YouTube is a great start!

  • I'm old enough to remember The Johnny Cash Show. He introduced America to some of the greatest singer/writers they'd never seen and wouldn't dare seek out.

They don't make TV like that anymore.

  • wow, she's so in control of her voice, hitting those high notes with such ease. voice crystal clear. just great.

  • I'm only 15 years old, but....no, I'm just joking :)

I'm 28 actually, but I still love Joni Mitchell's songs!

  • I am grateful that she exists in my lifetime, utterly beautiful and unique.

  • Oh, she is soo gorgeous!!!

I just can't understand why people that doesn't like this music have wrote down here...It have no sense at all...You can keep your opinion inside you and write down in the music that you like it...

    It is just a thought

  • Joni and Joan. The Queens of folk music.

  • saw her live a few times - unbelievable range & emotion - cant beat it !!

  • Joni is such a beautiful musician. I have many of her CDs. If you don't have it, get "Miles of Aisles." It's by far my favorite of hers.

  • Car on a Hill, Woodstock, Free Man in Paris, A Case of You, on and on

  • i dont give a fuck, JONI IS THE SHYT!

  • wow

  • why does people click on this song just to dislike it? jeg think that this is an amazing song by an amazing artist! I love her work. She rocks.

  • zomg I know you guys are a lot older than me but look up math rock. It is probably the best instrumentals you will ever hear :D

  • Beautiful!

  • you younger ones inspire me. i would never admitted i liked some of my fathers music when I was young. I would like to like the music of any generation but don't hear much new music that i like...too bad.

  • I'm not old... I'm 17... I just don't flaunt how sick I am because I'm young and I like older music, it's not about that. Just listen to the music...

  • beautiful. simple as.

  • epic

  • Diana Krall eat your heart out.

  • Just incredible.

  • so, whats that piece of crap shes playing

  • @SIMONP1965 as I was saying...... Look, jackass... try reading a book.

  • @SIMONP1965 Lap Dulciemer:)

  • Her voice's more beutiful than any bird's song!!

  • Blue is still my favorite album of all time. It never gets old (even though I did!)

  • I think Joni may have passed the torch to Feist.

Check out some of feist's live vids on youtube.

  • ..........there is nothing else like this.... my body still tingles after the track finishes..

  • wooow. i have just heard an angel singing.... the applauding audience pulled me out of my dream!

  • I am 13 and I have the lifestyle of a 50 year old. I listen to Joni Mitchell and Jimi Hendrix exclusively and play lap dulcimer. -_-

  • @GroundedSaugage we should be friends.

  • @penguinsReatingmybra We shall.... :D

  • @GroundedSaugage More power to you! There's little left of ....well, anything sincere or beautiful. Don't get sucked in by the profane and trivial.

  • @GroundedSaugage Do you want a medal or something? By the way, listening "exclusively" to anyone, is completely foolish, and juvenile. Music is such a vast realm with so many places to draw influence from, why would you not take advantage of that? How do you think Joni and Jimi developed such unique sounds? By pulling various nuances and stylistic markers from all different kinds of genres and artists within those genres. I strongly suggest you realign your mind, and your attitude.

  • Comment removed

  • @KeilGries :D Thanks for sharing!

  • @GroundedSaugage

That's great that you enjoy the music of Joni Mitchell at 13 years old! Have you every listened to the music of the late folk singer, Sandy Denny? There's a lot of music of Sandy Denny on Youtube. Sadly she died many years ago now as a result of a fall down a flight of stairs in England. She also was with the famous folk group called, Fairport Convention as well as her own solo work. Glad to hear that someone as young as yourself is also playing lap dulcimer!.

  • @folkmusicgirl .... Holy..... Shit...... Thank you so much for showing me this.

  • @GroundedSaugage No, no, no... don't do that!!!!! Develope and change but please...don't maintain, it's sad Search help, make a long trip to Europe with your parents, meet people for godsake.. but don;t copy the lifestyle of the sixties.. please...promise?.

  • @GroundedSaugage While I love all the old rock music, there are lots of good rock bands around that need support now... It's time to look towards the present if we want the music scene to evolve. You can check out Quest for Fire if you want some more modern Jimi influence.

  • @GroundedSaugage

    Highfive me too!

  • @GroundedSaugage That makes you smarter then most people your age : P good job.

  • @GroundedSaugage i accept you.

  • @GroundedSaugage give me a call in 5 years... if you've changed your screen name :P

  • @GroundedSaugage god bless you child

  • @GroundedSaugage Can you cover Joni's California? Please post your efforts what ever they are. Ya know your getting older!

  • @manolanoche Hell yes! I so would! I'm really trying to get a capo and a chromatic so I can play some other songs on it ;P

  • @GroundedSaugage OK, now stop patting yourself on the back for it.

  • @Ethricje someone's being a negative nancy ;)

  • Pure Light of God

  • oh. so that's what a musician looks like.

been so long since i'd seen one that i'd forgotten.

  • What a voice, what a song, Joni, I'd have your Baby anytime :)

Thank you from another troubled Scorpio

  • Great Canadian!!

  • This song, this artist, this performance, is an absolute classic of American civilization, and deserves to be preserved on a deep-space probe and sent to the stars, as an example of the nature of Humanity

I especially love when she finishes, and the applause begins, and then the audience stops weeping softly and really applauds, and the volume goes way up, and Joni is startled and then smiles in gratitude

  • @SupernalOne I agree :)

  • @SupernalOne - You've come up with the one superlative to describe this song, this performance, this artist, that had eluded me. Send it on a deep space probe to the stars, to be discovered by an advanced civilization eons in the future, as an example of the artistic heights reached by one member of the human species, at one (brief) moment in its evolution.

  • @radicalveg

Thanks - yes, Joni is certainly a real artistic height - though just to provide balance in our space-probe self-portrayal to the stars, we should select a male artist with an optimistic outlook - wonder who that might be? How about Shah Rukh Khan doing a big joyous Bollywood dance number? :)

  • Incredible - love this music, thanks for sharing!!

  • Just beautiful!!

  • Recorded before smoking ruined her ability to hit the high notes. Beautiful...the best.

  • @tusseyd totally on here...would love to hear from the current generation of any female singer hitting such beautifully high notes live....any???

  • @lblmer Unbelievable ignorance. One of her greatest accomplishments in her songs is expressing how much she loves her men despite their difficulties. I'd hate like hell to be your girlfriend--grow up, dude.

  • @HarryHaller1963 The wolfe of the steppes

  • a great book by Barney Hoskins called "Hotel California" really tells a candid story of the great music from '65 to the huge success of the Eagles - Joni plays a big role as a pioneer of the age - very respected among her peers....

  • I and a friend at Birmingham Uni. in the early 70s were addicted to Joni Mitchell – every day we had an infusion of the album “Blue”. If you haven’t found it yet, you’re in for a wonderful experience.

  • i love this singer soo much and i am only 18 ... nothing beats the 70`s :)

  • @rythemplayer Maybe the 1870's...:P Dvorak, Brahms, Tchaikovsky...

  • @rythemplayer except the 60s

  • @rythemplayer nothing beats the 70's,,, apart from the 60's ;)

  • @laztsoul so tru ;)

  • I think she is really "neat".

  • If you can't appreciate this incredible artist then get off the bus.

  • its so much harder to project like that when sitting down shes incredible

  • I thank my Mom for introducing me to Joni, she is simply an amazing musician, talent beyond words. And can you imagine? No auto-tune, no backup singers, no band even... just her voice and a dulcimer, awesome.

  • I love Joni Mitchell

  • wow.... so young such a fresh sound still today.

she is an international treasure... : )

a right on comment Qaurine !

  • Joni Mitchell, talent beyond belief. The pre-packaged, super carefully scripted, mixed stuff that fills the airwaves today doesn't even come close.

  • this song brutally murders "california gurls"

  • @avirazzy in a good way though(:

  • @illgrantyou3wishes most definitely :)

  • Beautifuly gorgeous. :)

  • Watching this makes me feel young again, my whole life ahead of me. Joni Mitchell is one of the true talents that sparked a generation. Good or bad, right or wrong, we tried to make a difference.

  • Unbelievable. Absolutely raw, still, and gorgeous.

  • the first time i saw this, i just stood here stunned.

the second, i had to grab my guitar and find that tuning...

now i just smile to my soul.

    thank you joni!

  • grande artista, adoro joni...

  • Freaking awesome! I love Joni! What a recording.

  • Just beautiful. Utterly beautiful.

  • This is a mountain dulcimer. Which I know for a fact because I play mountain dulcimer. Not to be confused with a dobro (guitar shaped, used in country music) or a hammered dulcimer(stringed, harp like, played with small hammer type objects.)

  • Amazing talent!

  • GORGEOUS!!! I have this in mp3 if anyone needs it for their ipod drop me a message

  • Love Joni.....

I just googled.... and it is.....

    a Mountain Dulcimer!

    thought so

a dobro guitar has a metal sounding plate and looks like a guitar...

  • Check her performance in the The Last Waltz. The way she moves while she sings is absolutely amazing. The music was in every cell of her body, which made her such a gifted performer.

  • just got back to hot, humid, disgusting louisiana after a couple of the most amazing weeks of my life in california. i've always loved this song, but now it just takes on an entirely new meaning. thank god for california, and thank god for joni mitchell!

  • Joni was so gifted. Insightful, passionate, always having her thoughts on the pulse of life. She was way way ahead of her time. No other can get close to her. Sweet Joni we all love you so very much - thank you for the decades of wonderful music.

  • God , the purity of this girl ... I am from Romania behind the (then) Iron Curtain yet we adored her , and still do so

  • she missed her calling - would've been great at country music!

  • @vegasguitars I agree! I would have loved to hear her sing Wildwood Flower or Tennessee Waltz

  • that was breath taking!

  • This song makes me cry and cry...

  • Such a beautiful voice! Robert Plant & Jimmy Page (Of Led Zeppelin) were big fans of Joni and her music. Robert Plant described the day they met her as one of the best days of his life. So funny considering the circumstances!-SRL

  • oh god childhood.... hahaha its weird this is the kind of people i was raised by. thats what happens when you are from southern california

  • Exquisite!

  • music always goes on - there are always genius bands and musicians

sometimes we're just blinded by all the crap over it

bands like animal collective are the future of our music, we must concentrate at our creative side and not thinking material

sorry for my bad english but i hope you all got what i want to say

  • So great - thank you. You've made my life so much better. Be good.

  • rikoshay...I so admire your restraint in your story....don't know what I'd do if Joni Mitchell was coming my way on the sidewalk...or what I'd say. How great for you..you'll never forget that "hello".

  • What an awesome perfomance. Her skill on the dulcimer, self-taught as with guitar and piano, is amazing. She is a true artist and an inspiration for generations of musicians. Anytime you have artists as disparite as Madonna, Prince, Annie Lennox and Bjork citing someone as an inspiration, you know you have the real deal.

  • It's great to see Joni doing this great song, especially the effortless dulcimer playing, but I wish she didn't sing the major third on "home"!

  • she makes me want to be .. ahh ..

  • so grateful to be coming home to the loving embrace of my beloved California. See ya'll tomorrow night.

  • she has got the most brilliant voice and most amazing talent i have ever seen

  • MUSIC.

  • isn't it incredible that california was once the centre of white LIBERAL opinion...?LOL!!!

it's now a right wing semi-fascist state run by an austrian moron and black evangelists!

  • Take it easy, man. Arnold can't go too far over the edge. He IS married to a Kennedy, after all.

  • Wonderful stuff. Thanks.
