I drive a fiat cinquecento with a 899cc engine, the older model to this car (basically this car with just a little more square corners)

i only drive this car because of the stupidly high insurance prices in the UK. i have been driving now for 6 months and i am a 23 year old male and the cheapest insurance i can find is £1645!

The insurers WANT you to drive in a death trap, in hope you will drive in fear because of it.

the UK.. what more can i say? we were once great.. not any more.

wow had this car through my under/ postgraduate as a first car. Economical? that questionable but not the safest as the video reveals. Personally I would steer away from these cars. Was great in the first year but thereafter a big no; random break downs etc. Had it for four years then switched to an astra and now an 07 golf tdi to my delight!

Here is an example for you to imagine suppose you had the choice of being in one of these two cars in a head on crash where both cars were doing 40MPH (64KM/H) Which one would You choose... A 1980 Mercedes W123 or a 2010 Year Model Vauxhall/Opel Corsa? I would choose the 30 Year old Mercedes EVERYTIME. As a rule the bigger car is deemed to hold the advantage.

In reality what matters is weight, not size; that said, larger cars do tend to be heavier (but not necessarily).

As for which I'd choose...don't know tbh. On one hand I know that Mercedes' have generally been very advanced vehicles in terms of safety, with strong passenger cells. However I also know that as you say there is a 30 year gap in technology; the Corsa did rather well (analysing structure stifness) in Euro NCAP tests.

@matsui2001 check out things such as the 'ford ranger' or 'ford F150' etc - pickups and 4x4's consistently score lower on all crash tests than smaller cars, so as a rule LARGE CARS = UNSAFE CARS. Given that larger cars have A) a greater braking distance and b) more susceptible to rolling over, this is even more true. generally the a) lighter the chassis and b) greater the size of the crumple zone gives the optimum safety performance.

A my friend with a seicento 900cc have crashed it at 70km/h in the rear of a Audi A6.

No hurts for him, but the seicento was destroyed, and the audi needs only litle replacement and body works.

However, I prefeer to run on a light and less safe car than run on a heavy and costly car.

I run with my actual Fiat Punto TD60 (1998) for over 200'000m accross europe and I'm still alive, the key is to avoid crashes...

it is car to use especially in town! i've got fiat cc from last year of production - 1998 in Poland. It is great. Low cost of maintance, cheap parts, economic engine, and it never break down when you take care of him(change oil, filters for time etc.)! If someone buys 20 years old fiat car and starting complain on it, is silly. How it works in future depends of treating him he was young :) In the end.. think about how much it cost.. you can't have mercedes safety in this price..

A 150 non rimangono neanche i sedili caro alex... e a te ti riconoscono solo con l esame del dna se ti ci trovi dentro... la 600 è una macchinina da citta'... non va discriminata è piccola maneggevole ed economica non potete fare paragoni con le auto piu' grandi. è una macchina per fare la spesa e piccoli tragitti. tutte le auto alla fine sono ammassi di lamiera dopo i 70 80 km.h si muore con qualsiasi macchina ricordatevelo....
