Looks like I will be buying a M4 for my '03 SV650 right now! I also see a few post regarding a first bike for beginning riders. My SV, named her Storm, is my first bike. I had no prior riding experience other than a 150cc scooter but any two wheeled experience is fine. I took a MSF course, bought the bike on the second day of class, got licensed, and picked up my bike and drove it home like 20 something miles first time out. Just don't ride past your skill limit.
"Turd Burglar" HAHAHAHAHA!!!! I haven't heard that word used since my next door neighbor used it when we were 10 years old! Hahahahahahaha!!
Also, nice bike. I love twin cylinder bikes, and I'm always recommending my "first bike" buddies towards this or a Ninja 650. That M4 pipe sounds really good!
Wow was about to say someone steals the cam and runs off but then i read top comment, and why exactly does this video have so many likes? waste of over 3 min....
Mine isn't the s version, it'snaked and will do 140 but it's not stock, dynojet, slip on, inj sv inake cams and curvy intakes on exhaust side, port/polish and injection sv crank, rods and pistons. 80rwhp 50ftib. Removed retard in 2nd-3rd gears.
@LittleDirka and Hookahtime: Ninja 250's are baller... I track my 04 EX250 all the time. Great bike to train on and great bike to make you even better on your middleweight and liter bikes! SV's are incredible track bikes too!
i dont see why people on here are saying its too slow! with a decent rider on this bike will have no trouble staying with some shitline4 rider on an r6 on the road!
i love my SV650S perfect for a ladie like myself and if you think 120Mph is slow it's still fast enough to kill you outright and fast enough to loose you're license.
Too slow? I got a 2005 SVS I have no complaints....I have no desire to do 160mph...inline fours aren't for me. I did and indicated 143mph once on I95...more than enough for me.I just like twisties and wheelies and cruising..awesome bike...def NOT slow. unless you compare top speed of a SV vs. a GSXR 600 then its obvious.
I got a used 2000, 11k miles on it, this summer for $2500. I love it. You can find em at reasonable prices, and they are reliable engines, so some miles on them aren't a problem.
I love the sound too, very awesome when riding it.
@LittleDirka I know. I am a pretty big guy and I love my SV its plenty enough to get in a lot of trouble but practical enough to where I can bring ladies on it and not be so damn uncomfortable the whole time. Personally race reps would just get me into bundles of trouble.
@LittleDirka....It's true that people hate the sv because of that but that's ok because they don't know what they are missing...I've had a 2003 sv1000s, a 2005 sv650, and a 2007 gsxr600 among other bikes and now i'm back to a 2007 sv650s because it's the most FUN bike to ride that I have ever ridden!!! so all of us can have fun while all the guys on the faster bikes can be "cool"
I was just reading the other comments and there seems to be some confusion about how fast this bike actually goes. I had mine bone stock 08 sf model at 154 on the speedo before the rev limiter hit. so 6-8 % or wat ever well over 120.
Yes I think so, fast but very controlable, and you sit lower then most sportbikes, so since your shorter ( no offense ) you will be able to reach the ground.
@LittleDirka Just got this as my first bike, great ride, but if you want something more upright, get the SV650, not the SV650s. either bike is great though, make sure and take your riders course first!!!
@LittleDirka ok no you do not sit closer to the ground, u have a higher center of gravity. because of that, along with a lighter weight, more upright seating position on the naked, and more low end power. start learning on a 250, and most bikes can be lowered easily but fucks with geometery. im 5'6 an do well on sv
@hookahtime123 HEy Dude im 5.6 ive sat on this bike and touch the ground PErfectly chck my videos Well not at the moment if you subscriube i will get good videos of my new sv 650 2000 =D
@hookahtime123 I have a 04 SV650 and im 5'7" 145lbs. Not much bigger and i fit fine on it. your gonna get the bike and than get used to it and wish it would go faster. I know i do lol. still fun bike to ride and cruise town in, i get 58mpg regularly.
@hookahtime123 most people will tell you that the sv650s is a great beginner bike, and they are right. you are lighter than i am by about 50 lbs so you might need to get used to the power but it is a great feeling bike.
my friend owned a cbr 600 and a yam r7 and rode mine and absolutely LOVED it. haha went out and got a 08' sv650s the next week
@hookahtime123 --For sure man...I mean yes I was larger than you when I started riding...but I went from no riding experience, took an MSF course, and was riding my '02 SV650s in 5 days with license and everything. It was cake. This bike is great for starters, but has plenty of potential to take you well beyond that. You will be able to learn many things on an SV. I am on my 2nd SV...an '04, and I couldnt be happier. Great bike....one of the best overall bikes ever made.
Nice sound for the SV650s.I owned an 2008 grey SV650s.The bike weighs around 382lbs.The speed I got up to was 132mph.I never like the skinny back tire, but that helps learn the limits of leaning. Its a great starter bike. But I sold mine, its just not fast enough for what I want.Once you ride or buy a 1000cc race bike, your whole world of riding is going to totally expand to super awesome. If you can, change the stock air filter, you will get 2 to 3 mph more.Try a K/N filter.CYA
You are right about rider weight, but we arent talking about a 240 pound person here. You call a 650 Vtwin a small motor, dont forget the bike only weighs 260 something dry. Lighter than any inline 600 class. Google search SV top speed if you dont believe me.
Sorry if im mistaken. I'm just going of personal exp. I never pin my bikes nor have enough road to actually ever test my top speed. But I did my own research i.e. take my bike out :) and I did get to around 128 before I started to run out straight road. So, yes. I stand corrected. :P
You people really need to get your facts straight before you questions someone. The SV650 tops out between 136-138mph. 120?? have u guys even ridden a bike????
Im not trying to dog on you. But that's a small twin motor.. I doubt the bike will ever exceeds speeds past 125. I would also take the rider's weight into consideration. This is coming from a fellow SV rider. Ride safe.
The OP is correct. The speedo will show about 140 so it will do about 130-135ish on GPS or radar. Google also help in situations like this . . . . . . . . .
Dude so u have eyes that also have built in radar gun?? Yeah your right, my speedo said I was going 120. So take the 6-8% that the speedo is off and I was probably going about 112-115mph. Thanks for being there man!!!!!!

@generalsaam no, a fairing will help the aerodynamics and there for this will go faster, if that does 150, the naked one will go about 135
