My family are from Glenad and have lived there for hundreds of years. Even though I live in England, I've seen what goes on in Glengad every year for the years it's been going on. Shell is dividing families and breaking down friendships. Shell have created wounds that will be there forever and that no compensating can heal, this needs to be ended once and for all before it's too late.
"If something is truly important to you… even it's heart-breaking, even if it's sorrowful… you keep on trying and trying, even if you lose your life, you keep on protecting it with these two arms!! …Then, even if you die, you leave behind the proof that you are a man… forever…"
i just saw this film. the irish government should be disgusted. do they really no nothing about their people? don't they realise looking back at their OWN history that when you threaten the home of an irishman they will stop at NOTHING till they get their liberties back? i'm from australia and i even i know you don't mess with irish people.

@EedDeryi nope, you might want to switch on tg4 right now this minute though if your interested in this, i'm a co. clare man myself and to be honest i couldn't physically watch any more videos or anything else affiliated to this story because my heart starts pumping with rage out through my chest, and my face goes red with temper to see what a multinational that is '' SHELL '' that just saw Ireland as the little island off the west coast of europe and take advantage of that!
@jamesmorrisseyvvti i know! got very lucky that just when i was looking for it on the net it came on on the tv! the fuckers, i was so proud of that fisherman not letting them pay him off or push him around, makes me proud to be irish
Seen this last night in the GBS Carlow and a great story of how a community can be brought together and fight against the massive corporations of this world.
@kevinmcglynn2 Raw, unprocessed gas would be carried at extremely high pressure, directly from under the sea-bed, through a pipeline in an unstable bog where landslides are common. The proposed pipeline for Rossport is nothing like the gas pipelines people live close to in other parts of Ireland:
• the pressure would be 144 bar, and possibly higher, compared to a maximum 5 bar in a domestic pipeline;
Its also interesting that one of the Rossport 5's grandparents was another determined man...and st Will the descendants of the people fighting this hopeless and futile cause look back with red faces or will they be as equally full of fight which is admirable but also with unrealistic goals!
i understand everybody gets so animated about this subject but why isnt everybody complaining about the fact that the government just gave this potential goldmine away to Shell in the first place, undoubtedly due to corruption but we all know that one. Surely this is the big issue here and not the safety. Many of the "protesters" ran out of steam and worked on the Ballinaboy site.
Hell of a good film. Saw it yesterday. I have to read up a bit more on the background to it now, but to see the Gardai and the Irish Navy used against Irish citizens to prtoect Shell made me really angry.
Like some people posting here I was udner the impression that the Shell thing was a kind of 'professional protester' thing but I think the film shows that it's not.
@kevinmcglynn2 thirty jobs being created will not compensate for the loss of farm land, the fishing industry, loss of peoples livelyhoods, if you listened to the oral hearings maybe you would understand why they are protesting. bono hasnt taken 420 billion euro out of ireland, and also he gives a considerable amount to charity, when have you ever heard of shell doing that? go to the shell to sea website before you comment on something you dont understand.
The bord pleanala letter does not state that the pipeline is dangerous. It simiply says that shell needed to provide further proof that it isn't dangerous. I quote from shells responce "the pipeline, as designed, is safe and meets all international standards and industry best practice." I suspect the problem people have with the pipeline is that they are a backward community suspicious of anything new. How much has shell given back by providing funding for the wider community and creating jobs?
I wasn't trying to be ignorant or anything with my earlier comments, but the people I've spoken to in the past have no knowledge of the relevant design laws and they all have the same opinion that shell was out to blow the country up, my only point was that they wouldn't legally be allowed to put it in if it was dangerous. If there is actual evidence that the pipeline is dangerous i will be more than happy to read it. And if i'm wrong i will admit I'm wrong.
@kevinmcglynn2 Kevin I think its a fair assumption that Shell have lied and cheated thus far in their control of this countries natural resources. If you don't have this view I will ask you to look into the history of how we gave it to them.
I very much doubt they are going to be truthful on the safety of this pipe. I'm sure if you type the words gas, pipe and explosion into google you will get many results.
@gingerbhoy Its not a matter of whether they would be truthful about its safety. They dont have a choice, there are design laws they have to comply with. And its in their interest to have the pipe line safe, it would cost them millions if it exploded.
All of the people protesting against this pipeline are the same people who use shell products every day, gas, heating oil, petrol, diesel...
If they use the products they cant really complain what shell tries to produce them can they?
these people arent protesting for the sake of it or because they are 'tree huggers' they are doing it to get a better deal for the community and the environment. when the pipeline is created the refinery will only employ 30 people, as opposed to the 420 billion euros shell are taking, tax free out of the country when ireland needs it most.
May I refer you to An Bord Pleanála's letter to Shell, Novemember 2009, I think if you read that it will answer your question, let me know if you can't get it online and I will provide it. Also we have a Q&A after our evening screening in the Light House cinema this Friday so why not come along, see the film for yourself and engage in the debate - in fact I will get them to put your name on the door so you won't have to waste your money - what you reckon Kevin?
The people protesting against the pipeline should all be shot. Anyone who's objection was that a burried pipeline would be dangerous is just stupid. Do they really think that with all the Health and Safety legislation in Ireland that Shell would be allowed to put in a pipeline that was going to pose any threat to peoples safety? As for going through their land, the pipeline was buried so the land can be put back to the way it was, they can still farm it. They're just a shower of tree huggers.
@kevinmcglynn2 Kevin in sort you are a total and utter idiot. Tree huggers? These are just normal people trying to keep their community together. Do you understand how much pressure is contained within a pipe like that? How can people farm land on top of something that could blow them and everyone else around them to kingdom come. Go away, take off your blinkers and read up on the subject you naive child
@gingerbhoy Blow them all to kingdom come? Thats the same sensationalist rubbish you get it the media. As I said earlier there isn't a Health and Safety Law or design standard it the world that would allow they put in a pipeline that posed any threat to anyone. If you knew anything about Civil Engineering you would've heard of things called Factors of Safety, that pipeline would pose no threat to the community what so ever.
@kevinmcglynn2 I feel compelled to reply to your email, its rude and bears great similarities to the some of the protestors - ignorant. On a macro level, the goverment sold out to Shell, they are not to be trusted on any level including planning. Safety legislation; such a project hasnt been attempted before so we cant guarentee safety. I am from Erris; the area is fantastic, I swim, fish and enjoy all the area has to offer - its only justice it gets a fair hearing for it future.
@iamvisi It will, I saw it and it broke mine. But at the same time it gives you incredible hope for the future, that courageous people like Pat The Chief exist.
@dalyboy2008 The Irish had to put up with this sort of brutality at the hands of the British for centuries and now they have to take it from their own! Just goes to show you cannot stand in the way of greed. I think the garda did a good job in showing their true colours. Forget the green white and orange try red with a white circle with a swastika in the middle.
My family are from Glenad and have lived there for hundreds of years. Even though I live in England, I've seen what goes on in Glengad every year for the years it's been going on.
