Wow, what a gift he untied the ribbon on his gift and gave it to the world. My my my, I love him. David is now on stage and no one can hold him back. You Tube and the internet is the best thing since water. I ask for real music and look what appealed. All ear will hear him. As his fan I know, in my heart this man deserve to be cast in a light as a man who loved and lived his divine vocation a "MASTERPIECE"! A HUMAN AND NOT A MAD MAN WITHOUT PURPOSE!
This man can sing yanky doodle and sound good! No doubt...
This song right here is one of his best in my opinion. And that comment was made about don't blame berry for david fuck ups. How bout david made the tempation and let me not forget eddie and dennis. But david was the best thing that motown will every run across. I know there are plenty more good 1s like marvin gaye and a lot others, but none like him.....
There aint no one like David Ruffin...i love his music id bought all of his stuff back in the day idk y it didnt sell more....people dont know good music
PLEASE STOP BLAMING BERRY GORDY FOR DAVID, LIFE AND CAREER. BECAUSE THIS IMPLIES THAT DAVID RUFFIN IS A BOY. INSTEAD OF A GROWN MAN. AND STOP PRETENDING YOU KNOW THE ENDS AND OUT, OF THE RECORD BUSINESS WHEN YOU DONT KNOW SHIT.
i think mtwn set out to destroy this mans career. Barry definately had the money to do it, the same way he did florence ballard when she tried to get back on track. David had some cuts that we are just now enjoying!!!
Love this one... haven't heard it til now. Love how he builds up the anticipation by takin ova 2 minutes to finally blow that first note. This is nice.
Redcar43 and jous1rufn , You can tell the Ruffian fans , Sometimes we don't even know what to say because of his extraordinary ablility to be a one man show, unsurpassed ,incomparable,His vocal range ,He still leaves us in awe
Yes I do agree this could have been very sucessful. David had the God given talent to master whatever song he was singing, first, there is wind, then thunder, then comes the lightening, That's the way David delivered,.
OH without a doubt!! I'm still trying to figure out how his music can get pushed back into the mainstream but the BS that is called music nowadays is a JOKE. Even in the interview he did with a British journalist he said there were MANY people who were singers that had no business singing and David's musical genius backup his right to be a talented artist.
I can only assume this song it too good forn he majority of the pop music fans out there, because it's a musical masterpiece.
The emotion in Ruffin;s vocals is amazing, and added to the musical genius that is Norman Whitfield, you would have thought this would be regarded as an all time classic, instead of just another unknown track.
It's one of life's travesties mate that this isn't this isn't a well known song.
You are correct. This was an original David Ruffin track, from his tremendous album Me 'n Rock 'n Roll Are Here To Stay.
The Undisputed Truth covered it on their Higher Than High album. Though The Undisputed Truth are my favourite group, David's version is by far the best, in my opinion.
Madlib Motown Mix vol.4 brought me here. His version was a bit sped up . I had to hear this song in it's entirety.

Does anyone out there agree with me that this could have been a huge commercial success with promotion and editing for radio play???
This was NOT a cover but an original song by Ruffin. The energy of this song is amazing, it just builds and builds throughout.
