The U.S. people and government should know equality of opportunity is not established in most of Latin American countries, as Honduran agriculture workers have no opportunities to be paid a fair wage for their hard works, but a small minority of farm owners are very rich. Are the farm owners really capable people? I don't think so. If it were true, they could sell out their established interests because they would acquire them again under competitive free market.

Just like Chavez is supporting the FARC in Colombia in an effort to destabilize that country. Communism and Rights= oil+water!

Its amazing how some protest that Michelletti has shut down two radio stations who are being pushed by the international communist to cause unrest in Honduras. Yet no one says a word about what Chavez has done in Venezuela. You have to wonder, don't you.
I'd turn that one around: It's disgusting the way the right claims that Chavez's perfectly legitimate non-renewal of a TV station's state-issued license, (following the station's active role in a coup) is somehow censorship, whereas Micheletti brutally closes down the only pro-Zelaya media (in Venezuela the opposition media is some 90% of the media), destroying equipment and torturing at least one journalist, Delmer Mendreño. To a sane person there is no comparison! :)
Oh and the old lie about international communists has changed! Did no one tell you? Even your friend Micheletti knows that. That's why he didn't accuse them of being communists, he said "terrorists" (when you don't agree with someone's politics today the keyword is not "communist" anymore, it's "terrorist"!) Since you ask, I try to read some of the American (Latin American to be precise) press when looking for Latin American news. I have very ocasionally read the odd article in a US paper, generally when seeking a specific article I've heard about. I am living in the UK and it is hard to imagine the US press is any worse than the UK one on Latin American matters. As to facts, I like to cast a wide net: books, personal contacts, intelligent analysis, etc.
The highest court in Honduras told Zelaya that what he was doing was illegal but, he went ahead with it as he was told to do by Chavez. He wanted to be president for life just like Chavez. By the way, all of you who are posting trash and blaming the U.S., get out from behind your computers and go to Honduras and help your communist brothers and sisters. Chavez has plenty of money to help you protest..
You have to hand it to the international communist for they never give up with their propaganda. Zelaya, backed by another communist, Chavez, attempted to become president for life. Zelaya had the ballots printed in Venezuela by Chavez in an attempt to subvert the Honduran Constitution of only holding office for one term. Unfortunately, here in the U.S. we have a president who is really not much different than Chavez. May God safe Honduras from the communist!
Unfortunately, you are once again being duped by the communist of this world. Enjoy your freedom while you can in writing these comments...for they will be gone should Zelaya and Chavez prevail.
Zelaya wasn't trying to "subvert" the Constitution but was rather trying to hold a "referendum" on amending the Constitution so that a President could serve two terms, the same as the US. The referendum wasn't going to be binding and, if passed by the people, would have gone to the General Assembly for consideration as to whether or not they should adopt the results of the referendum and amend their Constitution. Sounds like democracy to me.
That would be all fair and good if, Chavez didn't have a hand in it. The ballots were printed up in Venezuela and the winner was declared before the elections. I have even read articles from Zelaya's own party members who told him not to do this, that it would only destroy and divide Honduras but, yet on the advisement of Chavez, he went ahead anyway. Chavez is the new Castro who is constantly meddeling in the affairs of other Latin American countries. Chavez wants Honduras
Believe it or not, no Latin American leader needs Hugo Chavez to explain to them what to do. They all have independent minds, strategies and so on. They are not babies! :) 1) I would check the slants and sources of where you read that (asking were these "predeclared winners" even a part of the invented charges against Zelaya?) 2) Zelaya's "own party" are traditionally rightwing: ie in favour of the rich minority and opposed to the interests of the poor majority.
"You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves."
This video is full of nonsense. Not worth watching. These people who calls themselves socialist says they are for the poor. Yeah right, these people are crooked and corrupt who wants to CONTROL the poor. Disgusting people who uses the poor to meet their own selfish agendas. I'm very dissappointed with Oscar Estrada a guy who made a film about drugs and people moving ilegally to the US.
I live in Honduras, and I want that motherfucking Micheletti OUT oh here! He is a fucking son of bitch, and EVERYONE with a brain and a heart HATES HIM!

Do a good deed for a day and plan the down-fall of the Republicans - i.e., the Conservatives, Neo-Cons, Fascist, and last but not least the Corporate Hand.
There was no coup of democratic governments in Iraq or Afghanistan. I agree, it's up the the people of a country to first establish their own democracy but after that, all democracies should stand together when one is attacked.
The US could have done well by CEASING SUPPORT for the coup-mongers, ie: freezing all their US assets immediately; Obama condemning them publicly in the UN instead of remaining conspicuously silent; not reprimanding Zelaya for returning to the country he is supposed to be serving as president, etc. etc. etc.
I tend to agree with you that the US response might have been stronger but I would prefer if the strength came from the OAS as a group rather than a US led initiative.
You're thinking as a nationalist. Try putting this situation into a local context. If your next door unarmed neighbors were being held hostage by a armed group and you and all the other neighbors around that house had weapons, would you sit back and say that it is the hostages sole responsibility to disarm to captors and that the neighbors have no moral responsibility to help the hostages?
the real power big finance sees such things just as case studies, if it works it could be applied elsewhere, people dont even have to consciously think about it, its all in the system, fe. stock prices of pro-coup corporations / their intern. partners go up bet on the winner!
its not that complicated of a issue. zelaya tried to change the constitution to fit his own interests. the people and the army of the people said he was breaking the law. it was never a coup. if this was to happen id hope other nations would do the same. why are the people of honduras not able to choose their leader?
Well, America couldn't do it until the Republicans first kidnap Obama and fly him off to exile. Once that occurred, I'm sure the Americans would have a revolution to toss out the Republican coup and re-establish democracy.
the republicans wouldnt "kidnap" obama unless he did what zelaya is doing which is trying to extend his power and change the constitution just for his own personal gain.
madmanatsea Still elections is needed,if Zelaya can't be elected maybe people of Honduras want someone from his party to continue the work he started. This is COUP and you know that, what you trying is to legitimize a dictatorship just like Regan was doing.
Thank you for your solidarity with our peoples.. We have vowed to not vote and boycott electionsbecause they are deemed to be fraudulent. 4 out of the 6 candidates are pro-Coup, and the 2 against it will not participate unless Zelaya is brought back and human rights are respected.. Those 4 candidates have met with Clinton already (for the Millenium Challenge, which til a little while ago was still supporting the coup financially)and are close to Micheletti, so it's a lose-lose game for Honduran.
Zelaya lucky to be a FREE man flying all over latin america and coming back and forth to the usa. Zelaya DISOBEYED Honduran Supreme Court ORDER, issued on 5/27/09, SUSPENDING his 'encuesta'! You CAN'T DISOBEY a COURT ORDER here in the USA and Neither can Obama. When the USA President won't give Congress the Documents, recordings, email, etc., that Congress wants, then it goes to the USA Supreme Court for a COURT ORDER to make the President hand it over! If HE refuse, then REMOVED!!
People are beginning to realize that democracy is not a simple matter of procedure or formality. It is economic and social as well as political, it is a way of life and people have to be willing to fight to uphold and expand it.
Ultimately, no one really knew what changes were being aimed for with the Constituent Assembly. That's what precipitated this crisis, and Zelaya is just as equal to blame as anyone else. In a republic, decisions are taken by a majority decision, but the rule of law is supreme and the rights of ALL social groups are respected. A populist democracy is no better than an autocracy. After all, if the majority approves of the murder or expulsion of a minority, it doesn't make it right.
Thank you so much for covering this story. The people of the world must help them get their country back. I hope this movement sparks revolutions around the world. The time is now for the people of the world to take down their corporate ruled puppets and restore power back to the people.
As a fellow Honduran, who is NOT rich nor Palestinian... I ask you... how can you back up the actions of one of many corrupt and self-indulging governments? How has vandalism suddenly become heroic? Are you really ready to leave the country to be run by people who cannot even properly read and write? And are you really gonna talk about values when Zelaya is a proven thief, adulterous man? Sounds IDIOTIC to me
vandalism? what on earth are you talking about? Peaceful protests, what you see here (look at my video archive if you want), is by no means vandalism. If you think to protest is not a universal human right, I advice you to stop being a slave. This is what makes democracy be democracy, the people rule, not an elite. Do you understand that democracy is defined by the people, for the people and of the people?I don't see how Zelaya, accordingly to your hypothetical claims, could have been reelected.
If I wanted to rob a bank, yet didn't do it, do I deserve to become impeached of something I didn't actually do but wanted to do? If everyone accused of hypothetically WANTING to do something had to be expatriated, as the Honduran law (article 102) forbids to ANY honduran to be ousted and entered to the authorities of another country, then Honduras might become an underpopulated country.
As there are 6 candidates, since last year, nominated for the upcoming elections and Zelaya isn't amongst them, I don't see how the fourth ballot (something that never took place) could have meant automatically or guaranteed his reelection. So your self-indulging argument is purely speculative and international law is not based on speculations. There must be a trial and the accused should be heard and defeated on it, according to article 94, EVEN if he had been dispatched from his functions
Zelaya is proven a thief by whom? by La Prensa, El Heraldo, and La Tribuna?? Oh so trustworthy evidence sustained by the owner of half of Honduras, Canahuati, are you idiotic enough to buy it? Has there been a trial? has solid evidence been presented to a Court? Ok, if history during Nazi Germany had been written in books, accordingly to what Goebbels, Hitler's propaganda guy said, then believe me, the world history would be completely different. If media wrote history we'd be fucked.
Nor Zelaya neither Michelletti or superman or any other politician is going to save the people. Politicians in Honduras are only interested in securing their future not the people
I agree with everything Oscar says because I'm tired of seeing that only rich people have benefits in this country but i do not support Zelaya's thoughts because he is a tyrant who only seeks his own benefit.
A year ago I went to the mountain to see poor people who is dying of hunger. They never received support from the President. Where was Mel? Mel was spending money in expensive trips...
The power is in the name Yehushua, not Jesus. Zeus is a Greek God. Yeshua is Hebrew. Cast the demon into the Abyss. Yeshua rebuked demons and He sent them someplace. If you are going to aprehend a criminal you must take him to jail as well. This fight is against spiritual wickedness in high places. This is not flesh and blood; if you fight this way you will lose because "all power, in heaven and earth was given to Yeshua" not humans. This evil is not mere man, this evil is really SATAN! SEE!

Everyone agrees that Zelaya was heard and rebuked by both the Congress and Supreme Court. He defied constitutional government. The Supreme Court had him arrested after he refused to vacate office after becoming unqualified.
No serious observer disputes these facts. You, and The UnReal News, are simply lying.
The Real News used to be better than this. There is no mention that Zelia completely ignored, the supreme court, his own party, military, congress and the rule of law. If it weren't for those irresponsible actions he'd still be in power.
goodspeir: His name is Zelaya, not Zelia. And the majority of Hondurans support the reforms he was proposing. And it seems strange to me that you purport to be concerned about the "rule of law" while also supporting a miltary government that came to power through a coup.
It, also, reminds me of another christo-fascist Latin American leader from the Reagan era. One Gen. Rios Mott in Guatemala. He presided over violence to the trade unions, campesinos, and especially the indigenous, all while engaging in tongue-speaking pentecostal cum political rallies while praising Jebus.
Not true. Paste this link into your browser, removing parentheses.
tiny(.)cc/ZelayaHadAHearing
"The Supreme Court, by a 15-0 vote, found that Mr. Zelaya had acted illegally by proceeding with an unconstitutional 'referendum,' and it ordered the Armed Forces to arrest him [...] Eight of the 15 votes on the Supreme Court were cast by members of Mr. Zelayas own Liberal Party."
asdqwezxc69, you are wrong on the facts. So is The UnReal News.
It's good to see the Honduran people standing up for their rights to elect their own representatives and refusing to accept a dictator put in power by a coup. It is disgraceful that the OAS haven't put together a multi-national force to invade Honduras and restore their duly elected president to office.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Again, HOW IS IT A COUP? The Congress impeached Zelaya, the Supreme Court reviewed it and sided with Congress, and Zelaya himself admits he refused to obey the Supreme Court.
The UnReal News is simply lying with this headline.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's not a coup.
Zelaya faced a court, The Supreme court ruled for the Congress. The Honduran Constitution is absolutely clear. ONLY the congress can call a referendum. Any President who tries to modify the Constitution to extend his term is AUTOMATICALLY disqualified from office.
The Congress tool Zelaya to court, and Zelaya lost. He then incited mobs to break into a warehouse and steal impounded ballots. He was them sent out of the country by an almost unanimous vote of the Congress.
He did NOT try to extend his term and you know that. The fact that the coup supporters keep repeating something that is a proven lie only shows how out of arguments they are.
you really have a tough time understanding what an actual democracy is without tools of political repression dont ya? how about you dispute the facts that the real news presents, instead of well-funded propaganda that doesnt even have any empirical bearing on reality
Uh... Exactly where is he being "hateful"? When he mentions that the president is a religious conservative that is against the gay community? I think you need to look at the video again.
He did not express a view on Christianity. Christianity is not a monolith. He expressed a view on how a certain group applies the words of the religion. You might want to rethink your comment on behalf of all those Christians who don't feel the need to promote violence against the queer community.
What a refreshing video! The Honduran people are a light in the dark right now! And they want us to talk about Chavez??? Fuck Chavez, Viva la resistencia hondurena!
The stench of the IMF and the School of the Americas hangs heavy in the air. People who still harbour optimism for the Obama regime must be deaf, dumb and stuffed.
It's rather disturbing that the U.S media went crazy over the "Rigged" elections in Iran, they even maid an Iranian translator on Google and put up ad's in youtube, yet when something bigger happens in South America they turn a blind eye.
U.S. media in its current form is shit. Our political reporters are more worried about what Obama's opinion on the "Kanye incident" is and not actual news.
Yes, but central America is somewhat improper term used to describe North America countries south of the USA. All countries from Canada to Panama are all part of North America. If you don't believe me, go look at a map of North America.

Chavez is the new Castro who is constantly meddeling in the affairs of other Latin American countries. Chavez wants Honduras
MrOncethere 2 years ago
Believe it or not, no Latin American leader needs Hugo Chavez to explain to them what to do. They all have independent minds, strategies and so on. They are not babies! :) 1) I would check the slants and sources of where you read that (asking were these "predeclared winners" even a part of the invented charges against Zelaya?) 2) Zelaya's "own party" are traditionally rightwing: ie in favour of the rich minority and opposed to the interests of the poor majority.

There was no coup of democratic governments in Iraq or Afghanistan. I agree, it's up the the people of a country to first establish their own democracy but after that, all democracies should stand together when one is attacked.
1140Cecile 2 years ago
The US could have done well by CEASING SUPPORT for the coup-mongers, ie: freezing all their US assets immediately; Obama condemning them publicly in the UN instead of remaining conspicuously silent; not reprimanding Zelaya for returning to the country he is supposed to be serving as president, etc. etc. etc.
NicosNicosNicosNicos 2 years ago
I tend to agree with you that the US response might have been stronger but I would prefer if the strength came from the OAS as a group rather than a US led initiative.

You're thinking as a nationalist. Try putting this situation into a local context. If your next door unarmed neighbors were being held hostage by a armed group and you and all the other neighbors around that house had weapons, would you sit back and say that it is the hostages sole responsibility to disarm to captors and that the neighbors have no moral responsibility to help the hostages?

the republicans wouldnt "kidnap" obama unless he did what zelaya is doing which is trying to extend his power and change the constitution just for his own personal gain.

This is a fascist coup.
The democratically elected President of Honduras, Mr. Zelaya, was kidnapped while in his pajamas and flown out of his country.
The CIA was involved in the coup, as Hugo Chavez of Venezuela stated from the beginning.
Now, the people of Honduras who are resisting the criminal gang that has taken over their country are being violently repressed by the military.

You CAN'T DISOBEY a COURT ORDER here in the USA and Neither can Obama. People are beginning to realize that democracy is not a simple matter of procedure or formality. It is economic and social as well as political, it is a way of life and people have to be willing to fight to uphold and expand it.
blackiron60 2 years ago 2
Ultimately, no one really knew what changes were being aimed for with the Constituent Assembly. That's what precipitated this crisis, and Zelaya is just as equal to blame as anyone else. In a republic, decisions are taken by a majority decision, but the rule of law is supreme and the rights of ALL social groups are respected. A populist democracy is no better than an autocracy. After all, if the majority approves of the murder or expulsion of a minority, it doesn't make it right.

Sounds IDIOTIC to me
chickenandbear 2 years ago
vandalism? what on earth are you talking about? Peaceful protests, what you see here (look at my video archive if you want), is by no means vandalism. If you think to protest is not a universal human right, I advice you to stop being a slave. This is what makes democracy be democracy, the people rule, not an elite. Do you understand that democracy is defined by the people, for the people and of the people?I don't see how Zelaya, accordingly to your hypothetical claims, could have been reelected.
libertits 2 years ago
If I wanted to rob a bank, yet didn't do it, do I deserve to become impeached of something I didn't actually do but wanted to do? If everyone accused of hypothetically WANTING to do something had to be expatriated, as the Honduran law (article 102) forbids to ANY honduran to be ousted and entered to the authorities of another country, then Honduras might become an underpopulated country.
libertits 2 years ago 2
As there are 6 candidates, since last year, nominated for the upcoming elections and Zelaya isn't amongst them, I don't see how the fourth ballot (something that never took place) could have meant automatically or guaranteed his reelection. So your self-indulging argument is purely speculative and international law is not based on speculations. There must be a trial and the accused should be heard and defeated on it, according to article 94, EVEN if he had been dispatched from his functions
libertits 2 years ago 2
Zelaya is proven a thief by whom? by La Prensa, El Heraldo, and La Tribuna?? Oh so trustworthy evidence sustained by the owner of half of Honduras, Canahuati, are you idiotic enough to buy it? Has there been a trial? has solid evidence been presented to a Court? Ok, if history during Nazi Germany had been written in books, accordingly to what Goebbels, Hitler's propaganda guy said, then believe me, the world history would be completely different. If media wrote history we'd be fucked.

SEE!
