Still...I guess if one has never heard early surf music or The Beach Boys' "Holland","Pet Sounds", and "Smiley, Smile" albums, then one could be forgiven for thinking there's something new here. Listening to "Comfy in Nautica" and "Last Night at the Jetty" too, I couldn't hear much beyond a pleasant vocal wall and some gamelan-like sounds.

@cienh2o Hm? I'm not hearing the similarity between "Holland", "Smiley, Smile", or even "Pet Sounds", really. It's easy to tell that this is derived from the Beach Boys and other surf music, but there are definitely new elements in Panda Bear's music separate from anything produced by any surf band.
