This video perpetuates such a lie. The first airplane to take off on its own power was invented by Alberto Santos-Dumont, the 14 BIS. The Wrights created glider in 1903.
Mr. Santos Dumont was the real inventor of the airplane. His machine was called 14 BIS and made a beautifull flight over the paris city on the very begin of last century.
Orville Wright lived until 1948. Does anyone know if there are any existing videos of him talking on camera? Unless he became a recluse, I would think he would have been interviewed for newsreels and such on at least an occasional basis.
@TroyOi Very interesting question. I was searching for when the video camera was invented and the search results i get say 1925. The Flyer video footage i can find on youtube is 1903. I don't understand, if video camera was invented in 1925 how did the wright brothers film some footage of the flyer in 1908?
Does anyone know when video cameras were invented? It must have been before or during the Wright Brothers time because they have some video footage of their flyer.
@PilotRiaz Don't mean to be harsh, but you act like you've never heard of a little invention known as the film camera. When I ask about videos of Orville Wright, most people understand that I'm referring to film that, for purposes of transmission over the internet, has been transferred to video.
@PilotRiaz There was NO VIDEO in Chaplin's time, don't you understand that? Video is the electronic recording of moving pictures, be it on tape, CD, DVD, or digitally. Chaplin had film. And yes, he did do some sound films later in his career. Recording of sound dates back to the late 1800's, but the trick was to get the sound syncronized with film. That did happen even BEFORE Chaplin, but it wasn't until the late 1920's that it was good enough to be adopted by Hollywood.
Popular history has it that the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk were the first to fly [a heavier-than-air craft], but this is not true! The first flight was by a twenty-five year old New Zealander, Richard Pearse on March 31, 1902, at Waitohi, New Zealand near Timaru. His first successful flight was only 4 meters high, controlled, and around 350 meters in length.

Wright bros. built it first and they built many models that flew in the air the 1908 model just was the only one that flew the longest so you are kinda wrong and they built there first one in 1902 and Dumont built his in 1906 I think you confused yourself with 1908 flight which was not the wright's first flight, just their longest I think. Please don't insult America anymore and get your facts straight please.
If you all are going to insult the Wright brothers, could you at least spell correctly and use understandable grammar. Your point is not made if no one can understand your childish rant.
The "invention" of airplane is not a previlege of one man, there's not an egoistic property of one surname. Is the result of honest effort of many people. Down with this tiny thinking of "property".
I agree with you completely, and I am sure Santos Dumont would too. Isaac Newton once said, "If I have seen farther it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."
Your just hate america. Your just full of hatred... Fuck you. The wrights are more famous than that Dumont loser. People like you make the world a worse place
The first flight was in fact made in 1902 in New Zealand by a 25 year old inventor known as Richard Pearse on Mar 31st. The distance was reported to be 350 yards.
A replica of his aircraft and other stuff is on display at MOTAT in New Zealand.
The Wright bothers didn't invented the first plane. They sent a letter to France telling that they had invented an airplane in 1903... France anounnced that the first person who could show its experiment would be named ''the inventor of the airplane.''However, they showed up just in 1908. At that date, the scientific comission in France, had given a reagard to ''Santos Dumont(a Brazilian man)'' because he had already showed up in 1906, showing the ''14bis''(the first airplane invented by a man).
You are right. They did not build the first plane, and they wern't the first to fly. Several other people constructed gliders and used air currents to fly. However, Wilbur and Orville were the first to build and fly for a sustained amount of time with a engine.
The Wright Brothers were INVITED by french authorities and refused to show anything, by the excuse of patent interests. In reality they knew that their machine could not take off, like the "2003 replica". Voisin, Blériot, Caudron and other pioneers were present at Bagatelle, October, 23 1906 and ALL eywitnessed the first human flight. For many years the american propaganda machine tried not only to impose the a false reality and tried to erase the name of Santos Dumont of anything written.
your so stupid its unbelievable. Fuck off you anti american scum. You just hate america. Most historians world wide give credit to the wright brothers. You just been brainwashed by your anti american friends and family
Just google Santos DUmont..Even wikipedia that's a crap source says it that the first flight witnessed was of Santos DUmont..

Dear All,
I have some questions about psychology on aviation:
*Why do we love flying?
*Why do we relate flying with our full potentials and with our successes?
*Why do we use the phases "take off" and "fly high" as a kind of adjectives to describe our success of our hard working?
*Why do we used the word "runway" as a expression of optimistic future of a person/ a team?
*Why do we relate aviation with freedom?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!!
