What a history lesson it was...I checked the gospel of Matthew (chapter 2) and suddenly it all made sense. What a senseless crime... by the order of another madman ruler, King Herod. This is by far, the best version of the song I have ever heard. Alison Moyet's rendition of this moves me to tears every time, and it's even more meaningful now that I understand what this song is about.
