@ROMANSthruPHILEMON it's a creek, a sream of water. It has flooded the low lands near the river, after the dam was built. The water behind the dam has formed Lake Barkley and many trubutary creeks which emptied into the river became part of the lake. The bridge I cross is where the creek bed was originally located.
Oh, and this should be in a horror film with something jumping out of nowhere :P that's what I thought when watching it :D
