Love the short hair, thin body, and clothes... the last of the young Moz. Maladjusted as an LP is still criminally overrated (my own brother thinks its awful and he and I agree on everything else in life). And Evan is right, these sessions produced some great songs. Though I think a couple were complete turds like "Roy's Keen" and "Satan Rejected My Soul." He could have put "The Edges Are...", "Lost", and a few other really great songs in lieu of those and it would have been one of his best IMO.
Moz looks surprisingly young in the face here, think as the older he gets the better he looks with his hair shorter. Nevermind, but it only just occurred to me that Alma Matters reminds me of a Cure-type of song, something like High or A Letter To Elise, or anything off the Wish album really...
this is the first time seeing this and i have to say, he's in top form.
i hear this a lot, that 'maladjusted' isn't his best record but really it needs to be listened to with the accompanying 'rare tracks' album that was released after it in japan. you can learn to appreciate it more.
This is definitely a changing period for Moz. From being this youthful rocka billy to becoming an older uncle, wearing suite. Definitely the most metro-sexual version of Morrissey we will ever see. Also, Alma Matter and Roy Keane is like jstow said great songs!
Hate to say it but I think this was a really awkward/embarrassing period for Morrissey. Seems like he was just kind of going through the motions; maybe because he owed the label another record, or he needed to stay in the public eye. Either way, aside from Trouble Loves Me, this was a pretty lousy album. The 7-year hiatus did him a world of good.
I don't think Maladjusted has ever been presented well, and because of that the album has a bad rep.
I think the songs have always been sequenced and chosen poorly, and the artwork is awful. Even the new reissue had unprofessional text.
All that aside, if you allow yourself to see past it all (which most people don't), you'll realize that the Maladjusted sessions produced ZERO bad songs.
@EvanTopham I know I am sort of a pariah here, but I really really dig the original Maladjusted artwork. I dunno, real edgy and punk without the lame extravigant showmanship of Smashing Pumpkins and their ilk.
@jstow01 Though I can agre that Maladjusted was not his best album, to call it an awkward or embarressing period for Morrissey is kind of absurd. Between 1997 and 1998 Moz played some of the best live shows ever, covering great smiths tracks like paint a vulgar picture and sheila take a bow. that being saif i still consider Roys Keen, and Alma Matters 2 of my fav moz songs ever. Many people felt Southpaw did not compare to vauxhaull but the success of a record does not define a great artist.
This Morrissey disappeared and the new Quarry (Vegas) Morrissey emerged. He looks good here. Maladjusted was a fantastic album that was overlooked because of the record company. I hope the reissue gets its due respect.

@EvanTopham right on.... i really don't care for the artwork on the sleeve, in the end..it's the music that attracts me to this album
i saw the show during the maladjusted era and the music still lingers
cheers

i don't think he has hair plugs now. his hair is obviously unusually short here. it looks like less because it's short.
