I do miss those great game shows!! Yes Art James was among the best! I enjoyed him on The Magnificent Marble Machine and that GIANT pinball machine! RIP (and to all the game show hosts who have left us).
Hear about referral codes? Not me until one week ago I made big buck from it with no sweat atall. Just typed the code FILM in FulltiltPoker and got $600 bonus! Poker was new for me but now I play good cuz was easy to master.
I love these Canadian shows, like Pay Cards, Definition and Bumper Stumpers....we did get to see BS on Game Show Network for a brief time but that's about it...wish more of these Candian classics were available for viewing either here or on DVD!
@beentheredonetht No you don't. I'm Canadian and I can tell you that our attempts at emulating slick, big money American game shows in the 70's and 80's were - to put it mildly - quite pathetic.
@beentheredonetht Bumper Stumpers ran originally on the USA Network back in the 80s. We went to Toronto to the Canadian National Exhibition back in the mid 80s, and they were having contestant auditions for the show which hadn't begun airing in Canada yet. It had already been airing in the US for about 2 months at that point. I did really well, unfortunately I wasn't 18 at the time and couldn't play.
Yep...they did other game shows, as well: Everything's Relative, Matches 'n Mates, the original Pay Cards, and Spin-Off...the odd locations prolly had to do w/the fact that Nicholson-Muir was based out of Larchmont, NY.
MLB here...........like my friend, robwargo has told you, I'm an opera singer based in LA now. Think I'm the only person who came to Hollywood and became an opera singer! Fun to see the comments on the Super Pay Cards video!
After Art James "retired" from hosting broadcast game shows, he began staging and hosting several for industrial trade shows, and wrote several articles about the business for TV GUIDE...right, Jennifer?
Yikes, I gave you a down thumb and didn't mean to. The music was actually a reworking of the theme from the prior Nicholson-Muir game show "Spin-Off", subbing trumpets and trombones for the electronic textures of the original.
I hadn't seen much of your dad after Catch Phrase until he filled in for Gene Wood on Family Feud (and I'm sure he and Ray Combs have shared some Feud stories from his short run there). In a genre where most people only remember Wink Martindale, Richard Dawson, Gene Rayburn, Bill Cullen, Bob Barker, and others, your dad is fortunate to have a slew of fans who remember him. :-)
He also filled in for Gene Wood for a couple of months on "Classic Concentration" in 1991. Pretty ironic considering he was the announcer on the original version of "Concentration".
During a blooper special, it showed a clip from "Say When!" during which he was doing an ad for a brand of peanut butter. The jar he was holding cracked and had peanut butter dripping all over him. I thought it was hilarious.
A classic bit...apparently, they'd used the same jar during the various rehearsals, causing the bottom to weaken from Art repeatedly sticking his knife into it, and that was the end result...small wonder they stopped making Peter Pan PB in glass jars after that! LOL
@jenjames222 If you're who you say you are, then I will tell you that one of the frst game shows I remember watching was "The Magnificent Marble Machine." With a birthday of 2/4/71 (I'm 39), memories are going to be a bit fuzzy. BUT, I've known of Mr. Art basically all my life. Aditionally, a piece of music from TMMM played in my head up until I found the YouTube video with the show.
Not sure if you visit here still or post here Jen, but your dad was an exceptional host. Sadly, it seemed most of the shows he presided over had less than ideal formats, but he had the ability to even make paint dry seem awesome, he truly did! I just viewed his "Blank Check" pilot video on here yesterday. He had a really awesome voice. It's been 33 years since my father passed, and I STILL miss him all the time. How blessed you must feel to still be able to see him and hear him
Thanks for posting. It would be cool if the Canadian game channel were to bring this show and "Pifall" back. They already show ones like "Test Pattern" and "Love me, Love me not".
I think the game board was operated by using numerous slide projectors, because it was obviously years before computer graphics technology. Can anyone back me up on that?
That Bonus round is harder then it looks...I've been playing the online version and only have won a few times. Anyways thanks for posting these. I used to watch this show everyday.
If this was syndicated, who distributed the show in the US?

Mary Lou also did a wonderful Loto-Quebec commercial.
"Winning the lotto doesn't change you...except..." and this wonderful, powerful high C comes blasting out...shattering everything in sight.
Great cyclist too :)

Question... for You Narzo...
I recently noticed you tried to post up the full ep of this show...
But it got torn down...
But then how did you get this part of the show, and how come no one's tried to flag it. (I don't intend to I want it to stay)

Why does the hotel plug mention Toronto? The show was taped in Montreal - Champlain Productions was the production wing of CFCF-TV.

Art James reminds me of Pat Kiernan of that Pop Culture Show that was on Vh1.
A tv station in Hamilton, Ontario used to replay this show well into the late 1980's and early 1990's.

No. Computer graphics were already in use at the time.
