  • Xiiii...!!! Maravilha.

  • The guitarist's name was Ashton "Sugar" Chiweshe. He was never fired by Mukanya but decided to go it alone and would return to Mukanya as a session guitarist. R.I.P Sugar.

  • I heard he was fired after this for showing off. Mukanya did not like to share the limelight, LOL. Whatever the story, this is the best guitar solo I have ever heard, white people and their riffs can go and jump. Fantastic. Suddenly makes you realise how much we have missed out on.

  • I heard he was fired after this for showing off. Mukanya did not like to share the limelight, LOL.

  • viva shumba viva isilwane...zimbabwe is the best

  • Viva Zimbabwe! Viva Africa!

  • If somebody knows the name of guitarist or other videos of him , please let me know. Love from Iran to you all

  • Is this also Zimbabwean? I see some elements of Taarab (Coastal music of Zanzibar, Tanzania and Mombasa, Kenya) and since the title "Moyo Wangu" is in Swahili i must believe that the song has a mix of Taarab and African or let's call it Zimbabwean style of music.

  • @AthaBeat This a Zimbabwean artist singing in a language called Shona, which is quite similar to Swahili. Moyo Wangu means "My Heart" in Shona. The style of music is popuarly known as "Chimurenga".

  • @AthaBeat all is zim

  • Heartbreaking song! The better days lay far behind. Lets hope that he will soon be able to return to a country free from widespread corruption and human rights abuses. Filiep Manger The Netherlands

  • this song reminds me of my childhood..

it gives me chills.. I'm from Colombia but I believe there's a little bit of Africa in all of us, Africa is our mother, this music is like food for the soul

  • I first heard this music in 1985, a white guy who left Africa because of Apartheid left me all of his records to look after, and Thomas Mapfumos music blew me away-the best!

  • I have always liked this song.... Rest In Peace my brother...Rick :~)

  • That guitarist needs to be resurrected.

  • mukanya

  • astounding

  • Can someone please put on some of the "Corruption" Lp from the late 80s as I was in Zimbabwe when that came out and saw him perform it at a pugwe or something like that outside of Harare--it went all day with performers coming and going. I managed to convince Thomas' manager to let me record it. How about "Mr. Music" LP too! Thanks again for all the tracks.

  • @egronk56 So who's the guy on lead guitar here? Wow......

  • @rastabus thats the maesteral-ashton"papa"chiweshe he is late now.

  • @kachaso May he rest in peace. He deserves to: For this performance alone...

  • I have never heard this guitarist before and really quite like this track. I wonder if this track is on a CD. I think I would have danced on the stage to. Thank you!

  • @egronk56

the original studio version is also on youtube (search for Moyo Wangu) but it is with Jonah Sithole on lead guitar

  • One unsung bassist to come out of Zim is Isaac Chirwa. Ko who can post Corruption by Mukanya?. Someone asked about a song that goes,''Hama dzangu munoda magariro akadiniko paasi pano'', that was the one time wonder Sekuru Gora. Another student of TM who made waves on her own was Patience Mudeka. The gal was also very sexy.

  • Ashton Sugar Chiweshe was a twine teaser of sorts, the guy was just too much for TM to handle. Other Zimbabwean lead guitars of repute include Louis Mhlanga, Jonah Moyo who continues to belt out for the Vendas in Limpopo Mzansi,Simon Chimbetu & Leonard Dembo. Madzibaba Nicholas Zacharia comes close, but he, like Macheso is better known for the bass guitar.

  • MAn I miss home.

  • Mukanya, thanks for the inspiration. Great stuff!

  • maiwee ndorangarira Baba vangu RIP beloved one....

  • hezvo ka mukanya

  • hey i saw u the other day at ltd.....sorry i missed theconcert at wow

  • Aston "Sugar" Chiweshe on lead guitar, ur a genius par excellence. RIP

  • este ritmo es fascinante, saludos desde Lima - Peru

  • very nice, regards from Italy

  • Thanks@ Kachaso.

  • Does "Moyo wangu" mean my heart? somebody, please, translate.

  • yes

  • yes moyo wangu " my heart "

  • @MsamiG YES it does.

  • @MsamiG dont know if someone answered your question but its something like: my heart, or conscious...

  • for a long time i always thought jonah sithole and jonah moyo were the baadest guitarists of our age, dont get me wrong until i heard sugar belt out some of his unforgetable expertise with the electric wire.this guy is magnificent.i did'nt understand why he was asked to liv the blacks unlimited so much talent but so little room to shine. And he did really shine on this show.

  • @kachaso ashton was not asked to leave the band.ashton as talented as he was he resigned from the band cause he had started his own band.thomas wouldnt do such stupid thing to terminate ashton's contract with him,coz ashton was the greatest guitarist to this date mapfumo always mentions ashton, jonah, joshua, ephraim karimaura, washie kavhai and allen mwale as great guitarists, but ashton was my best

  • Great bands are made of members who are given the space, within the group, to explore and showcase their talents, pity Ashton was never exactly what TM wanted. But on this one, it shows what that space can produce

  • Ithink its alright for the guitarist to have had a bit of fun,he didn't seem to be showing of as much as i thought he would have personaly.

  • i read that thomas later asked guitarist ashton "sugar" chiweshe to leave blacks unlimited because he did not like a showman.

i can see why! he totally stole the show on this one.

  • my heart bleeds to!more than any person care to know in life.

t.m. god bless u & your anciesters for eternity!

shane..your friend for life & after..god be with you!

  • the best ever

  • Ashton Chiweshe's style of guitar playing was beyond advanced, i could understand why Mapfumo started to feel insecure then again Mapfumo shoould have learnt to play the guitar...anyhow this guy should be put on the limelight for a post humous award!

  • thank u so much 4 the post complete legend! this reminds me of my childhood

  • Best ever, this music just kept me dancing..Thanks for the post

  • Sugar Chiweshe was a lead guotar maestro. He was sacked by Mapfumo because Mapfumo openly admitted that he was a showman. He took the limelight from Mapfumo by playing the guitar in such a superb way.

  • does anyone know where i can get a copy of the lyrics and a translation?? contact me if you can help. Love this song

  • NdiSugar Chiweshe aripagitare uyo; this was it man. Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you, thank you, so very much for posting this wonderful video. If anthing, I have been looking for videos from this very show for a long time.

My goodness listen to lead guitar rifts from the late maestro Ashton Sugar Chiweshe. The guy really beautified Mapfumo's music.

If you have any more of those videos please do post them, namely Nyama Musango and Marehwarehwa.
