  • i have always been wanting the music to this ever since i was a kid. know if its about?

  • had this and the ship, played this a LOT as a kid.

  • This was so bad ass when I was a kid. My neighbor had this game. I was always there playing.

  • Prepare to power on.

    .....

    .......Power on!

  • I keep hearing the Star Wars speederbike sound effect throughout this video when those phantom aircraft are about. The most noticeable effect is at 6:42...

I wonder if this had been taken from the actual Star Wars movie or was it some stock effect both of the films used.

  • @MetalCanyon artmic did the animation for this. they had a hold of the sound effects because they wound up using it on other shows or projects they did.

  • @em23 I see, thanks!

  • This is the shit I grew up on!

  • Man, this takes me back. I remember my brother and I playing with our toys to this video over at our grandparent's house.

  • i used to play this over n over years ago but ..it took me a long time to realize..i wasnt playing anything i was just watching it

hey i was like 5 and there wasnt internet then

  • i still have THIS!! on VHS and the Captain Power black ship too! 80'r RULE!

As a matter of fact, I have the ship right now in my hands full of dust. Good times

  • Oh shit, I used to watch this video all the time when I was a kid.

  • omg, i forgot all about this until today! it's all coming back to me now! greatest thing since laser tag! me and my bro used to cheat by just pulling the ships back or to the side when we knew the enemy was shooting ;) easy to remember after watching the video so many times. just like this script is strangely ingrained in my subconscious apparently as this whole thing feels like deja vu right now...

  • accelarate to mach 3 !? >=) sweet time to kick ass heheheee, oops sorry about that was expirencing nastalgic flashback!

  • hmmmm wonder if anyone ever thoght to make an arcade machine outa this.... kind like the starwars trilogy one in style!? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... ;)

  • Shit gets real at 5:25

  • This totaly blew my fucking mind when i was eight years old.

  • Wow, talk about a blast from the past!!!

  • I dont get it.

  • FOR JOOOOOOON

  • IHad the phantom jet stryker while my friends beat me up with the xt 7 had this video also

  • OFFICIAL DVD set announced !!!

  • Man, I wonder what animation studio did these videos? It's got such an old-school anime feel. There was a lot of that in the 80s with G.I. Joe and Thundercats and Transformers. Looking back, I can see they were bascially the old anime look from that time.

  • holly shit i used to have this game ....i officially played it so much , for the life of me i could not remember the name

  • as I was remembering this show, I lost my shit as an 8 yo whenever this came on.

Then in my later years i recalled this show, and recalled what a mish-mash of Japanese entertainment staples this was. Tokusatsu battle suits, anime dog-fights... ah good times.

  • i used to play this just about everyday when I was 8 yrs old

  • I've got Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future: Raid on Volcania Skill Level 3 in my old VHS case, about 9 years ago I had a party and put it on in a dark room, it drew an adult crowd too it for all the odd flashing and animation

  • omg! i finally found this video!! i bought this tape ages ago! i was crazy playing that jet thing on my hand! Power ON!!! :D

  • Yaya!! You had to shoot the red rejection on the video!!! I wonder how this would look on Blu Ray!!!!

Thanks man for youtubing this Video!!!!

  • Oh MAN I was WONDERING what it had been.

I recalled having a VHS video game when I was a really young kid that, for the life of me, I DIDN'T REMEMBER what it was called--but after seeing this I was like YES! YES! THIS IS IT! THIS WAS THAT TAPE!!

This SO made my day. x3

  • had this VHS tape as a kid... cool animation and decent music even.

  • my XT-7 just ejected

  • I can't believe i remember this!!

  • they need to bring this back

  • I remember this from when i was a kid. My god i used to love it

  • can u use the gun for this

  • God I missed those toys!

  • i never got the meaning of cheesy. i'll take "cheese" any day over emo/ teen angst. someone needs to revive this franchise NOW! this show was great, you really cared about the characters, and even lord dread when they revealed his past.

i remember being really scared of blastarr... and laughing my ass off soaron whenever he got his ass handed to him... hahaha which was every single time!

  • This show is freaking SERIOUS for a cheezy kids show in the 80's. Look at the DETAIL on those sets! Better then Star Trek TNG! Imagine a revamp of this show on playstation move!

  • POWER ON!

I miss this so much! Way ahead of its time. I had the XT-7

  • Take that teletubbies!

  • Was this CGI? If so, it was very sophisticated for the time period. The effects don't look terrible or embarrassing today. This must have cost a fortune to make.

  • @zugabdu It was the one of the very first CGI shows on television. When I was a kid I actually appreciated the fact it was CGI too. The bad guys are always so much cooler then the good.

  • my brother had the white gunship i had the black striker one.i used to put my g.i. joes in the cockpits for when they would eject.mine ejected rather violently hitting the tv sometimes!!!what was even cooler was when you got bored with the tapes my brother and i could play laser tag with the two ships!!!!!!ftw!!!!

  • I always got so pumped when that squadron of phantom strikers came swooping in and the music started up. No more safe training, shit just got real ; ]

  • Teaching boys in the 80's how to be on the side of the future NEW WORLD ORDER!

rather clever and mad messed up!

  • Uh...okay then? lol

  • I hope that one day, they'll make a long running anime, because the anime of it is really, really good.

  • man this was the junk back in the day, I used to always try to get the most power points lol

  • These were really immersive to a 6 year old kid with a love of cyberpunk and deluded aspirations to be a jet pilot. The music in Raid on Volcania (the third, supposedly most difficult, tape) was awesome too.

  • Ive probably watched this vid 100 times when I was a kid...had the vhs and the ship/gun

  • OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG sooooo many memories!

  • I still have the videos and the jet from when I was a kid. Now, if only I could find a working VCR...

  • I still have the tapes. Awesome!

  • OMFG I remember this I had like 2 tapes but since I was a kid could never figure out how to play it and my parents didn't speak english. Since it was Japanese animation I wanted to play its so bad agghgghghghgh childhood FAILED great upload though thanks!

  • The best part was that your pilot would eject from the ship if you took too many "hits." Oh plus, you could duel other captain power jets.

  • I have found a lot of stuff on ebay, got quite a few things, this stuff ruled!!!

  • Argh!!! I had this!! Totally forgot about it! This looks like it was animated in Japan. Nothing was this nicely done in the US at the time.

  • OMG!!! If I went another year without thinking about Capt. Power, I would have forgotten how awesome this was.

  • Before the Nintendo Wii, there was Captain Power.

  • @suprman1 before cdi, there were whs video games

  • This brings back so many memories! Thanks immensely for uploading this!

  • I remember buying a system like this from a yard sale I thought I imagined this but this was sooo long ago I cant believe these were actually real

  • That animation is AWESOME.

  • Wow. I lost many a cockpit behind my television, playing that video. But the most fun is getting a bunch of them and shooting each other. Until my dad discovered he could "shoot" us down with flashlight.

  • my brother and i used to have the set,,, a phantom striker, an interlocker, the power base ya plugged a figurine into to light up the chest piece, and an XT-7, tho with the XT-7, the wing pegs were round and the pieces that were supposed to attach on had hexagonal holes

  • I wonder how stupid he felt in that suit. . .

    I miss Captain Power. . .

    . . .no I don't.

  • You're hilarious! Thumbs up!

  • Anyone else have the Lord Dredd gun/ship?

  • i had it. with this video.

  • @EvilSlyGuy i did, the Interlocker throne was bad ass!

  • These videos has the most awesome 80s synth soundtrack EVER! I'm with matrixmiles, would love to find a proper soundtrack!

  • NO MACHINE CAN BEAT HUMANS OH LOL

  • If you listen closely when the strikers are flying around, you can hear a lot of the same sound effects they used in the speeder bike chase in Return of the Jedi.

  • No machine can ever out-think a human.

    ...except Deep Blue.

  • i played these tapes all the time when i had the stuff.

  • was the music feat in these tapes ever relased as a soundtrack? been trying to find them for ages :S

  • Korean, actualy. alot of american made shows back in the 80's were animated by koreans. much cheaper.

  • My Childhood revisited! Gotta get this back (was stolen when I moved as a kid :( )

  • Lol, mach .6 is hella slow.

  • Sweet! I used to have all three tapes (three 'levels' of training, basically), but I don't think I ever actually 'played' them in the game sense much (Had the XT-7, the Phantom Striker, the Lord Dredd throne with the periscope, and the weird and incredibly *loud* 'stand' that when activated sent out a 'scoring' signal for a period of time, then sent out a 'damage' signal. Shame it's not the entirety of the tape in one vid, though--they were great to watch on their own.

  • I still sleep with that gun under my pillow.

  • crap! it's incomplete. just before 6:11, the player is supposed to be hit and go into a dive before pulling out of it.

    ah...

  • Ahhh. I remember shooting my TV with this video. It felt... right.

  • Nice! Does the youtube version of this work with the toy ship/gun?!

  • I haven't seen this shit in 20 years... DAMN

  • Fucking Great I watched these on video so many times Best Sound Effects EVER My Journey towards the Geek side is now Complete :)

  • Butt flap!!!!lol

  • I still have this tape in a box somewhere lol

  • can someone let me borrow their plane XD

  • That console in the opening sequence is either the heart of the TARDIS from Doctor Who or a shameless ripoff thereof. I wouldn't think a US production with Japanese animation would get leftover props from the BBC, but stranger things have happened.

  • the same company that did tf the movie did this

  • Mach 19 for a Phantom Striker?!? You realize that's 14,468 miles per hour!?!

But this seriously was one of the greatest TV shows ever. How come no other show has used this idea since? I can only imagine how huge it would be if someone tried this today.

  • holy crap! why would you even NEED a jet that flies that fast?! any kind of maneuver at that speed would surely tear the jet to shreds!

  • At the risk of blowing my Geek membership cover, I always figured it was because they either didn't have pilots, or they were machines. But yeah...that's...quick.

  • @Gravija1980 Today's kids are not the same. They are used to another level of realism and interactivity. This was the shit back then but I doubt it could make a comeback, even with modern technology. Our generation grew up watching war cartoons and ninjas.

  • @kashpc

    I agree 100%...

  • bit of geek trivia, the packaging for the XT7 said it could reach Mach 20

  • @Gravija1980

on top of the interactive aspect this was on of the most brilliant shows EVER. One reason was the compressed storytelling. Each episode told stories in a half hour that was reserved for full hour shows! The result: Rapid fire narratives where EVRY second was packed with meaningful action and developements. I don't think there was ever a serious live-action sci-fi done in this format. A gorgeous show all around.

  • @Gravija1980, nah they are too lazy to even try to match its old school innovative style.

  • @Gravija1980 there were no humans piloting the phantom strikers

  • @Gravija1980

A man can dream *sniff* a man can dream *wipes ovf tears*

  • @Gravija1980 heal yesssss!! this was soooo frigan much fun to wach n play!! =)

  • wow I remembered watching this a lot, even when I lost my toy! I just loved the animation. The end credits music is still in my head. Thanks for uploading it!

  • me too, i used to pretend to shoot with my nintendo zapper after i lost the plane.

  • OMG We had this! It was mission that came with the gun thing. Thanks for upping this!

  • WOW, i'm amazed at how good the animation is.

I wonder if any animators could even draw like that now.... :(

  • so did you use a toy gun to shoot at the screen for fun? how did you play with the tape?

  • Certain areas (for example chests of enemy robots) were colored with a solid color; the toys contained a light sensor that could tell when it was aimed at a solid color zone and increase your score. In the same way, the sensor could tell whenever a flashing pattern of light (used for enemy shots) occurred on the screen, and decrease your score.

  • Red was a target, Yellow could hurt you.

I remember Raid on Volcania being pure hell. Shots and targets everywhere.

  • I had this VHS!!!! :)

  • Holy ! Thanks for sharing !!!!

  • i used to have this along with the spaceship thing back in the day...it really wasn't anything all that special. you shot at white spots on the screen and the spaceship controller thing kept a 2 digit numerical score for you. that's it!

  • I'm glad i've never asked for it.

  • I love youtube just because I can find old stuff like this. I remember having 2 different game/videos of this. More than anything I remember buying this just for the jet/gun it came with because they look cool.

  • It's watchable just for the anime-style quality of the graphics. As for interactivity with the toy....I'm not sure.

  • From what i remember it was hella tight.

Your friend could also buy a plain and you could fight kind of like laser tag if you got hit it would eject your pilot out.

  • Took me and my bro like 2 weeks to figure out it didn't matter how many times we shot the enemy fucking ships...uh it was a tape?LOL

  • I bought this crap.

  • This was WAAAYYY AHEAD OF IT'S TIME! Years before any of these fancy video games. This also looked very Anime, was any of this made in Japan?

  • nope. 100% american

  • Actually, it's Canadian. You can confirm on wikipedia.

  • Canadian, American, Mexican, who cares? it's still made in the same continent.

  • All the animation was done in Japan by Artmic and AIC, who also animated Bubblegum Crisis.

  • Geez, I never knew that information, and to think that the animation was done by the late Filmation in the U.S.

  • The mecha designs here were done by Shinji Aramaki (Mospeada, Megazone 23, BGC).

  • Aramaki also designed the vehicles for M.A.S.K. and Pole Position.

  • M.A.S.K was awesome

  • Wow... how long has it been since I seen this? Looks cheezy now, but when I was a kid, this just blew my imagination. I used to watch these videos all the time and try to rack up more points than my friend down the street. I had a couple of the jets but Lord knows where those went. So awesome to finally see this again.

  • I love this I have not seen this for twenty years I had all these videos and the phantom striker. I even had the action figures too, I loved the t.v. show used to watch it all the time. WAY TO GO!

  • Baggs000, could you by any chance do me a huge favor and email me the movies so I can save them on my HD? I have the original VHS tapes, but sadly my VCR broke long ago. I'm frankly amazed these were put up here.

  • I had these toys when i was a kid with the white plane and if he got killed he ejected. This takes me back.

  • Too bad the targets won't glow like on tv or I would be busting out my ship and blasting away

  • Just like they did on the black and white superman. There is a live action actor then

he flies by the help of some animators to make superman fly because there is no strings in that time. Just like the japan puppet sci-fi galaxy boy troop there is a pupets, and some anime spaceships. But on this vhs video game of captain power is very cool. In the start there is a live of captain power before the animation spaceships.

  • dude.... this is awesome.... i've been trying to hunt this down forever...

  • man I've been looking for this for a long long time.. thanks for posting.
